Permanent Hair Dye versus Temporary Hair Dye

Hi I was wondering if there is a big difference in these two type of dyes? I normally use a temp black dye but it fades after a month. I was wondering what the situation is with a permanent one?

Temporary dye fades in a few weeks; permanent dye lasts until new growth and needs root touch-ups. Go permanent if you want longer-lasting results.

How do you protect your skin from the dye? Do you use a cap?
