I'm trying to listen, but have no idea what this is about, it's so painfully boring.

You're really honouring him by trying desperately to flog his collection.

Sil Fox was around for this:

What was the first ever audio recording?

The earliest known intelligible recorded sound of a human voice was conducted on April 9, 1860 when Scott recorded someone singing the song "Au Clair de la Lune" ("By the Light of the Moon") on the device.

We inherited = We were given them because it would have been expensive to put them all in a skip.

I really have to question what I'm doing with my life listening to a show where the highlight is the unintentional comedy of the sound of some guy inadvertently pressing keys on his phone while on a call.

No mention of Joe's return tomorrow, there now.

I think this was middle of the road by KH's standards. First segment was particularly painful alright. Even the caller was willing to end the conversation long before it actually ended.

I think some of Colm's most recent stint were quite bad - as bad as anything KH has ever done.

I don't mind her as a broadcaster. She's fine - but as a permanent host of a show like LL? Absolutely not suitable.

I rarely comment on this thread because I only listen now and again to Liveline.

However I have to say categorically that Katie Hannon is THE most boring presenter ever. I have never heard her make an interesting show. She sounds half asleep …all little soft laughs…. she's the same on TV. I always want her to grab the bull by the horns and actually speak with a bit of assertion and motivation! She sounds afraid of her own shadow.

If she takes over the Liveline is dead. Joe was streets ahead of her.

    Oh "it's a pity" alright.

Basic English not even a requirement to work in journalism anymore, it would appear.

I didn’t gear his sign off but it’s ironic that Oliver Callan’s spoof of the whole thing dud thank the background staff!

I thought it was given away by the son, when the father was asked by another guest on the show last week, do you know if he won, and he said his son said "you'll enjoy it more if you don't know the result". Or something almost identical.

Mario Rosenstock must have been reading the Liveline thread yesterday.

Gift Grub this morning was the auditions for the new presenter, finished with Ray D'Arcy doing what Ray does.

We also had a caller muttering "you called me".

I won't post the link to it however as the humour in it may be against the forum charter.

"There's a new head of audio and they might just... RTE are great for shaking things up and doing something different, aren't they? They're mad for that. But we'll see.

    […]

"And you'd need to be appointed by Joe. You'd need full approval. Otherwise, you'd have no chance in hell."

I don't know if she's being sarcastic or not!

Other names mentioned in connection with Liveline include Katie Hannon, Ray D'Arcy, Claire Byrne, Sean Moncrieff, Marty Morrisey, and Joe Brolly.

    Ugh.

A thing isn't what it says it is.

A thing is what it does.

Are there really no young, hungry, highly trained and competent presenters around the country who could liven things up? There are media courses in many colleges around the place. Where do ask the graduates go? I’m not saying hire someone straight out of college but surely someone with 5 years experience under their belt could deal with the average Liveline caller? Actually, screw that. Get away from the average Liveline caller. Field cans from young families taking the cost of living crisis or other issues of the day.

We seem to just get tge sane bunch of names popping up for Rte jobs over and over again. It’s good at jest they went off campus for the LLS revamp. I’d love to see seeing similar with LL.

I call for continuity: John from Cark or Anne from Cannes could probably take over seamlessly.

Also, Derek Mooney is mincing around the radio centre on big money with only half a gig.
