    Hi, thanks for the reponse!

No I didn't transfer the number to Three. I asked for a new number with a new SIM and the 48 sim and number (that is not recognised by the Pixel) is still working in my old phone.

Never had a problem with the pixels and 48.

That's a really strange one. Pixels are always sold unlocked in Ireland so not sure why it doesn't work

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 64 ✭✭top floor

Yes. No error message either. The pixel just kept searching for a network. I will request a replacement sim from 48 as my current one is old but I doubt that is a problem.

Replacing old 48 SIM solved some of roaming issues for people. Can you try someone else's SIM?

So, I remember buying an eir sim for 10 euro, transferring that number to Three to avail of a cheap pixel 7a. Then when I got the 7a I put my 48 sim in. No issues. I probably did have an up to date 48 sim at the time.

Got mine today and my GoMo sim was working fine, getting a sim not allowed warning now though. Will see if it's an issue with them

Maybe VF has locked these. That would very unusual though.

It looks very much from the latest t&q's that you can use the boost trade credit towards the phone.

    Terms - binaries.vodafone.co.uk/tizrehont83j/5iSbzjzEzrS8PtVKD6O4Ah/91f9776e30440e7811ab991316db4096/April_-_June_2025_Trade_In_TC.pdf

Trade in Boosts received in store must be used as part of the same transaction towards the cost of a handset, Pay As You Go top up credit or accessories, or added to a Bill Pay customers account as account credit to be used towards their monthly Vodafone bill. .

If you buy the Pixel 9a and trade in an eligible phone you can use the 200 boost towards the cost of the handset. If the phone is worth 50 on the trade in checker that is added to the boost.

You end up paying 150 for the Pixel 9a (Phone Price (400) - Boost (200) - Trade in value(50) )

I had to get a new 48 sim when I got a Pixel 8 Pro a while back, worked fine after that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 853 ✭✭✭feargantae

They can't as it's the GA09563 they're selling which is the unlocked EU model.

    Definitely something else going on.

Took the sim out and put it back in again and it's working ok at the moment. I did try the same last night to no avail.

Has anyone tried this trade in deal in store to get the 200 off the phone?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 64 ✭✭top floor

Thank you, that sounds hopeful. I will try that.

I was the same with the pixel 8a that was posted here back in February. Apparently sim cards have different voltages and my old 48 one was too old for the new phone. Just requested a new one from the my account section on the 48 website and it was working fine then.

I did yesterday, traded in a Huawei P20 in perfect condition and they gave me €6 for it 😀 so, total discount €206.

Just a word of advice, I factory reset the phone that I was going to trade before going to the shop and that was a mistake, they need to install an app that run diagnostics and makes sure that everything on the phone works so we had to login and setup the phone which was a waste of time.

    Thanks for that update

Did they try to get you to buy Vodafone credit at all?
Did you need to port your number to Vodafone? Were you happy to do that or did you just use a burner SIM?

I'm already a PAYG Vodafone customer, so there was no mention of buying credit or anything else… I would asume if you are not a VF customer they will try to sell you some.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52 ✭✭giannidtz

I wish! No, the phone goes for 700 (Pixel 9) minus 206, 494 total.

Why didn't you go for the 9a?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52 ✭✭giannidtz

I don't change phone often so I wanted the full Pixel experience rather than the "a" version… The 9a is also good but is a bit of a watered down version of the 9 IMHO.

Fair enough but other than the RAM and the slightly better camera I'm not seeing it

Saying that I too am coming from a Huawei P20 so anything new is a major improvement

Il decide on 9 or 9A once I see how much they give me for my Pixel 6. Looking at both will be a step up I like the idea of a smaller phone as well

So I'm thinking with my Pixel 8a (€77) plus trade in bonus (€200) I could get the 9a (€400) for €123? My 8a isn't old but it seems like a cheap way to go a gen newer. Anyone tried this?
