I'd avoid those. Often defective out of the box with companies purchasing the rights to use the brand name that aren't even Sharp/Toshiba.

Likely to have terrible white patchy spots when you see black on the screen and generally be horrible.

    This is based on what?

Pub talk from drunk fools or have you owned a few dozen and had these issues with many of them?

For the op, they are entry level TV's and ideal if you are a casual tv viewer and not overly concerned with having a "brilliant" picture.

If only they said what panels they use and who makes them.

Smart = obsolete in 3 years time - Sticking a set top box on a HDMI port is the way to go. Old laptop + wireless mouse or Enigma 2 with satellite & aerial and aps. Cheap TV's have terrible sound , but sound bars or audio kit with line-in solve that.

In Europe "Sharp" means UMC in Poland (different in US or elsewhere)

    https://www.umc-uk.co.uk

The Sharp models use a radio remote control so no universal infra red will ever work. It was a deal-breaker for me.

There's three types of Smart TV these days.

Non-android = limited apps , check what you need before you buy as vendor lock-in - eg: Vestel don't really have that many aps.

TLC / other Chinese android TV's = slow and limited - As a rule if you are going to go Chinese don't go lower than Hisense (smart or not)

Sony = Proper Android but out of your price range if you are looking at Tesco TV's

Back in the day it was about €100 cheaper to buy from Tesco UK , so check prices up North. Get some booze and ibuprofen and paracetamol while you're there.

And https://www.richersounds.ie/ deliver and have a longer warranty

Based on returning a "Toshiba" TV bought in a supermarket and multiple people I know also getting caught out having serious technical issues with them returning them within a week.

Nothing entry level about the price here.

Just rubbish panels that can't display blacks properly to the point that they are unwatchable.

Is that enough for you?. I don't drink either.

Hope you have a good day!.

I'd share the concerns of the posters above - there are a lot of poor quality TVs out there. While they're only giving general guidance, your question was general too. If you want a basis for comparison as far as bargains go, have a look for the same model in the likes of Power City, DID, Harvey Norman who also sell Sharp and Toshiba. And based on the feedback above, if you wanna buy a TV from a supermarket, maybe hold out for Lidl or Aldi who usually give a 3-year warranty on electronics.

For what it's worth. I bought a Sharp Aquos 32 inch about 2 years ago in Tesco for 200 E clubcard price.

It worked straight out the box and is still working.

The picture is fine for what I want it for. I see no issues.

The sound is fine, certainly better than the TV it replaced.

    The remote is infrared.

I don't use the "smart" side of the TV so can't really comment about that.

A bonus was discovering that it had Freesat built in so that saved me a few Euros. Maybe they all have that these days?

I can't fault it for what I want it for.

I have a 4K LG TV which is running fine for 10+ years. The only issue with it is it doesnt support Android Apps. I use an external android TV box to run my Android apps.

The next time I buy a TV I would only go for a TV that support Google TV / Android TV and also Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vison, HDR etc natively, rathen than depending an an external Andoid box like NVIDIA Shield TV PRO.

So I know I am limited to Sony, Samsung and chineese ones like TCL, Hisense etc have excellenty TVs with technologies like Mini-LED etc.

It is unfortunate that LG doesnt offer Google TV as its OS.

Talk to Richer sounds. They are here on boards. I bought a big phillips tv and got the free 6 yr VIP warranty. It packed up after 5 years. Sent them a whatsapp with a video of the issue. They collected it and replaced it with another, no farting about. I even paid a few quid and they upgraded it to a slightly bigger one. Super service.

seconded - and they often have deals.

I bought a tv from them in early 2020, it arrived damaged in transit but i didn't find out until after delivery truck had gone.

The MD @Richersounds.ie: John arrived the next day with a replacement - a round trip of trip of 700km (assuming he travelled from Belfast)

I would suggest going into a store like HN/Power City and actually having a go of a TCL before taking on board what is said above about them.

Working nearly 15 years in the industry and can tell you with confidence they are unbelievable value for money. Have reccomended them to multiple friends and family never had one complaint.

Most TVs regardless of the brand will come with poor processors, ram & on board storage. Compared to a chromecast, apple tv etc plugged into the HDMI they will always feel slower.

Which processor does TCL / Hisense uses compared to one used in Sony?

TCL generally use their own AiPQ processors. I have a mid range 55 inch now that is 1-2 years old. This years models have also moved to "Google TV" from "Android TV" which apparently is a better interface.
