VW Polo - Seat Belt sticking

We have a 172 VW Polo and over the past few months the driver's seat belt is sticking and harder to pull out. You have to pull it out very gently and sometimes it can take a few goes to get it fully out. I've tried WD40 and that works for a while.

Just wondering can I get a replacement part or can this be fixed. I'd rather avoid going to VW as they're gougers IMO.

Could my local mechanic fix this or order a replacement belt?

I’ve had the same problem with the passenger belt in a 152 Polo. My mechanic opened up the mechanism and jammed a bit of paper behind the release, or something to that effect. Haven’t had any problems with it since.

A silicone spray would be better.
You can open the plastic cover that hides the mechanism by prying it (youll find vids on youtube).
If its a simple fix that might save you a trip to the garage.
