If the high is returning then a drop of rain wouldn't go astray........

2020 hit the peak on the June Bank Holiday weekend then went downhill after that. Very below average I recall after that point.

I did a glacier hike in the south of Iceland yesterday and the very low cloud base made it quite atmospheric, even if it limited views. I'm happy to see fine weather returning to Ireland, although your high pressure has pushed the jet stream to up here, so a lot of cloud is being dragged in from the Atlantic. There's even a yellow warning for wind and snow tomorrow, which is underwhelming for May but May snow will at least be a novelty for me if it comes to pass.

I echo your thoughts. I too remember it being nice at the beginning of June but not being that great for the remainder of summer. I tend to remember what the weather was like at the beginning of a given June as my birthday is on the first day of summer and a bank holiday is always around the same time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,140 ✭✭✭adocholiday

Yeah that was exactly it, I remember because I was let go from work at the end of May due to Covid and had another job lined up to start at the end of August so I was looking forward to a few months off to get some big projects done, weather broke about 2 weeks after and never recovered, it was a waste of the time off! Hopefully this isn't a repeat of the same. It is disappointing to see that the weather is to break again Sunday. Even though this spell of weather has been overall great, the weekends have been disproportionally poor overall which is frustrating.

2020 was a good summer may and June was anyway but can't remember July or August

Spring 2020 was incredible and it came to a crushing end around June 2nd and the rest of that summer was a trainwreck from what I remember.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,321 ✭✭✭Dazler97

Aw no well that's a shame 😕 I hope it's not the case this year then , I hope it's warm and mostly dry overall

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 657 ✭✭✭Monkeynut

Yeah, That's it. Everyone loving it. Buying hot tubs like no tomorrow, covid, no work, just sit out the back all day. April and may were brilliant. Then came June and it was sh1te for the rest of the summer.
Myself and my partner were kind of lucky, worked all the way through it.

So the grass is starting to get frayed and yellow round the edges in Sligo with the continuous sun this week. The situation is severe for next 10 days bar Sunday and even then some areas will miss rain. Here's the soil moisture anomaly for mid May

Thanks, it's always a pleasure to be up here, even if the weather isn't playing ball. Yesterday was rubbish with streamers of rain and sleet coming off the Atlantic while this morning has sunshine and snow showers, which is very odd to experience in May, especially with the sun shining at the same time that the snow was falling.

What height was that climb up glacier? Guessing 300m. Great experience.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

What a class spell of weather!

Sure has been a truly great spell of weather, reached over 19C again today at my site, albeit a bit sheltered but another Davis close to me got close to 19C too, got cloudy at times but sun was never far away, down to 12.1C now and been calm all day.

2020 was not a good summer. An amazing spring that year during the first Covid lockdown, suntanning weather in May that year and wonderful up to early June. But a trainwreck, to quote Gonzo and other posters, from there on in.

Netweather gragraphical forecast has been broken for a while now. At the moment showing 0mm precipitation and 0% chance of storms over the next week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,075 ✭✭✭Artane2002

I went up to around 100 m, which was around a 60 m elevation gain. I think the highest point of that glacier is around 1350 m, but it would take days to do that.

I experienced my first ever lying snow in May today, which was a surprise because I didn't expect the snow to stick. I've now seen snow in all months from September to May inclusive. It was a bit of a mad day because it was the sunniest one so far, but conditions were also very harsh during the squally snow/graupel/hail showers. You could see a wall of snow approaching you before it hits. The picture I put is not that snowy but it was my favourite one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,321 ✭✭✭Dazler97

also it feels like we’ve been stuck under high pressure mostly since end of February I hope it keeps up over the next 14 weeks. Some rain at times and sunny and warm that’s all I want 😎

Lovely morning for Darkness In To Light in Greystones.

    Beautiful @DOCARCH

Stunning sunrise in Bective this morning. saw a photographer there. Was it you @sryanbruen ;) We were in The Hobbox for 6am. Beautiful morning.

@Robwindstorm will you chance it without a jacket tomorrow? Still on the fence about going to Croke P with the kids. Probably get soaked after the game waiting on the bus home 🫣 Maybe it be warm rain :)

    Currently warm 12⁰ Co Meath

It hasn't rained here since Friday 25th April. 2 solid weeks of very nice weather. The temps are perfect for me - warm enough for shorts and t-shirt but not too hot for outdoor activities, sports etc.

Like Dazler said, it feels like it has been largely dry and bright since the big storm apart from a few days here and there especially around Easter.

Please remember to put some water out for the birds. I'd say they are struggling.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,140 ✭✭✭adocholiday

You're right about the birds, we have a small pond in the garden and a bird bath and they've been a constant presence in both the past week or so. And you don't need anything special for them, just put out a small shallow saucer or a bowl with a rock in it that they can stand on and that will do.

The only tickets left are for the top decks of the stands if you don't mind heights. I'd definitely bring rain jackets as I think Dublin is in the firing line for rain before the match is finished. If your not booked on a private bus you might have a long wait at a general bus stop. At the same time if your kids are over 8yr old it will be an amazing atmosphere for them to experience and even better if we win 🏆. Good luck

2020 wasn't bad Summer in Sligo . Yes heavy rains came in June but we got plenty of 21c days after that.

Lots of the country got crap after June we woz lucky. As for 2024 that was one of the coldest Summers of the 21st Century here 13c and 14c many days. And rained a good few days. Nothing heavy but rain all the same.

2025 has been a different pattern and I'd be very surprised for a cold Summer. Likely warm and thundery with many more days like today but some short wet spells too.
