he’s no loss… he was rude and obnoxious to people he didn’t agree with and was highly paid to do so. He frequently used the airtime to peddle non sensical topics of no interest to anyone only himself and he was intolerant of many people with opposing points of views to his.

Please not Jennifer Z, it would turn out like an agony aunt section of the Sunday World.

Liveline is OAP radio now. After Joe departs it needs to be seriously revamped with a young presenter with ambition and ability who isn’t afraid to tackle the tougher issues of the day, not necessarily the big news items but this relevant to a younger audience and one with young families. None of this will happen though and Katie or Colm will take over the hotseat and it’ll be business as usual. My money is on Katie getting the gig.

I rarely listened to Liveline. The last episode I listened to was about the goat at the Killorglin Puck Fair. He shouted down anyone who disagreed with him and tried to bully them into submission. He seemed to be a lot more arrogant than he was in previous years. I wasn't a regular listener, so could be wrong about him being more arrogant.

    Communication was the greatest fatality

Katie getting the gig would sign the death knell for the prog.

I hope this isn't a way to bring Ryan Tubridy back

Ok I may be a boring monotone invidual who has never smoked, done drugs, gambled and very rarely drinks but christ I hadn't realised you can bet on literally everything nowadays. I thought it was limited to the horses/football.

Finally farewell to the laughable Liveline telephonist.

It'll be KT for the hotseat and for all his faults (and there were many, many, many faults) that's a fate worse than him continuing.

Anyhow, the show hasn't been a shadow of itself in ages (I don't fully blame Duffy for that, he was most certainly castrated by RTE after he dared try to be fair during the infamous trans phone-in a few years ago) with mere sprinkles of GOLD amongst vats of self-interested tripe, hugely boring subjects, a litany of free advertising to his mates and virtually no current national topics.

So long to the highest paid 'star' on RTE, lol.

I wonder will the replacement be an existing RTE staffer who is not an overpaid contractor ???? Bakhurst should keep his promises on saving RTE money.

It will be interesting if Noel Kelly manages to drop one of his Muppets into the gig.

It will show how much RTE have moved on from the bad old days

Joe must be spitiling that the new pope was annouced this evening.... completely eclipsing his retirement wankathon tomorrow

I'd give it to Darcy for the comedy value 😁

Every person with any problems would be asked have you tried porridge and running and tutted and talked down to if they ever admitted touching the nasty demon drink

just listened to him reading out his own statement…

    He’s a smug ….

I know! the cheek of those cardinals, stealing our Joe's headlines. They could;ve delayed it until the weekend

Ray seemed to somewhat confirm what people in this thread post every so often about Joe eating while the show is on.

He said "Joe goes to the canteen to fill up his flask and if he passes you he takes a kitkat or something out of his pocket and throws it to you".

Was it Mario Rosenstock who had a character called Buzzkill Darcy?

Same, tbh. In the last few years though, he's developed so many weird verbal tics that I don't think he's really suitable for live radio any more. The "so to speak" one is something that a good producer would have beaten out of him years ago. It's been going on for at least ten years now. The fact that nobody has told him to stamp it out is quite bizarre.

I knew it! chomping and munching away whilst demanding to know more about the pain

How about this - wipe the Radio 1 daytime schedule clean following Morning Ireland and START AFRESH.

Bye bye Oliver, Claire, Joe and Ray. There's much more compelling presenters out there willingly to work for considerably less money.

And more talented producers able to make more interesting radio.

All this will have to wait as Pope Leo XIV has, in recent past, visited his Augustinian confreres in Ireland.

Surely the Irish links to the new pontiff must be explored by Joe and Father Iggy (another great and verbose Augustinian) in coming programmes.

The RTE self congratulatory stuff might have to be put on ice for a while.

To be fair to Joe, on the topic of Puck Fair he had every right to bully and shout down all the callers who disagreed with him, given that Joe comes from an agricultural background.

Joe must be seething, some obscure yank stole his thunder!

Pope Bob. And on that theme, Saint Bob (Geldof) would make a good replacement for Joe.

    Good riddance to him.

Grossly overpaid talentless whinger who'd never have earned anywhere near what he sponged off the irish tax payer (RTE) over the last few decades working in the same industry in any other country.

I would not be in favour of that but what I would say is they really need to spend some money on a decent producer. Stuff like 3 ad breaks in the final 5 minutes would never happen on any partly professionally produced show. Im sure eating at the desk would also not happen. Particularly during 75 minutes. How many times has there been a complete mess of a programme only to be told at the end "Producer Brenda O'Donoghue".

A competent producer will tell the host "Despite you earning more than me, and being more famous than me, for the duration of the programme, I am your boss so you do as I say". I don't think that ever happened with Liveline.

also that she never stops waffling on about kerry

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,363 ✭✭✭mountain

is the same way that Duffy droned on about Dublin,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,213 ✭✭✭✭LambshankRedemption

To be honest, the occasional Kerry anecdote was a nice break from the usual DublinFM we got.
