Painfully funny. It's amazing RTE actually broadcast it, not because it's risque, but because it's funny.

It wasn't all that sudden really. He's 69 and a lot of them retire from RTE at 65.

I think salaries are now capped, I believe, at 250K - Joe was on a lot more.

He'd allude to ongoing contracts and negotiations with the RTE top brass fairly regularly, particularly since Bakhurst came on board.

I'd be a semi regular listener to the show and I always got the sense that, over the last 18 months anyway, that he wasn't getting what he wanted/wasn't as interested anymore. He was taking the absolute piss lately with days off and his appetite for getting into on air rows etc seemed diminished.

Planning a run at the Áras? Great pension plan…

He's looking very obese lately.

If he hasn't provided for his own pension out of his giant salary, then he's not a very bright man

Good. Anytime I ever had to endure listening to him it was pure torture. Thankfully I have not had to in a long time so he will not be missed by me anyway.

He'll be sorely missed. A legend.
