No, you’re not really taking yourself out of a Tesla, with the trade In Experience you want, you really only have the option to go back to Skoda.

You’ll be sent to the trade with any other non Skoda branded garage.

What’s the details of the Skoda? Are you really sure you’ll get €10k more elsewhere

    Tesla probably isn't for you @reaction238 👍️

i agree. Tesla is probably the car they want, the most competitive in term of pricing but difficulties with amount offered by Tesla for trade In and desire to coordinate sale with taking ownership is a stretch. Little point in complaining about Tesla business model, that is why they can offer attractive pricing, clearly it is not for everyone. It is clear how they operate so for some it is a great deal and for others it is not.

The car is for me, but I'm finding it difficult to see past this problem. I thought I was missing a trick, hence coming to forums to find out.

I think it's probably a generational thing. There's a generation now thst don't realise there's another way of doing things that is fairer, especially if you have well cared for car or well spec'ed car.

I've also just discovered another stumbling block. I would add the advanced autopilot add-on. I've found out this is tied to the car and is not transferable. OK, I can live with that. But it gets worse, they disable the add-on on their trade ins. So when it comes to upgrading the car and doing a trade.in, it adds nothing to the trade in value AND you have to purchase the add-on again on your new car.

In other words it's a 3,800 recurring fee that cannot be recoup on a trade in. If you.trade in every 3 or 4 years, that's roughly a €1,000 annual subscription fee in disguise.

The moral of the story is the best way to buy a brand new car is to go for the base paddy spec and don't bother putting any effort into caring for your car because it's.poinless in the end. It's quite sad really, for someone who loves cars and loves caring for his car.

All Tesla CPO cars have Enhanced Auto Pilot and most of these are trade ins. Never add EAP when buying a new car as the cost gets added on and you end up paying VRT etc, just like any option from any other brand.

Instead, wait until you get the car and buy it afterwards. It won’t cost you any extra then.

I agree about the generational thing, many older generation folk want the traditional garage, glass box, fancy coffee machine and today’s newspaper to make them feel special when handing over their money. It’s a human behavioural thing.

Tesla is like buying an iPhone. Most know what they are getting. Order online and collect with no fuss.

You still have t posted any details on your Skoda. What’s the private sale price on it?

It's actually fairer having the Tesla option. No more having a sales person blow smoke up your arse about how good a 'deal' you're getting on the trade in. If you want to get the best deal, you put in the leg work and sell the car privately. If want convenience let dealer do the leg work and trade in. I've done both. I've sold a VW brand car privately when trading in against a newer model in the same garage because it was financially a better option for me. Tesla choose to give buyers great value on new cars. They choose not to get involved in the 2nd hand market and focus on running a lean, efficient operation. That is their prerogative and there is nothing unfair about it. But I agree, it's not for everyone.

    Absolutely.

And why would they want a second hand Skoda - what are they going to do with it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 362 ✭✭reaction238

All valid points worth considering. Thanks to everyone for the honest feedback. My desire for a Tesla is very strong, Maybe I just need to wrap my head around the fact my old car is not as desirable as I think it should be. I'll leave you all be now, sorry for butting in on the excitement of getting a new Tesla. Happy driving to you all.

It’s a car forum. You’re supposed to be asking questions so don’t stop. It’s what the forum is for.

    Hi folks,

You might be help to me out. Test drove new Model Y on 1st May and paid deposit of €250 on 8th May. Cancelled the order yesterday (change of heart by Mrs.) and requested refund of deposit under EU distance selling. Just got a call from Sandyford and they told me as I have test driven the car so I won't get my deposit back. Is that true?

Rep insisted I keep a demo car overnight and then decide. However, Mrs. prefers PHEV at this stage so won't be able to change her mind. Am I really going to lose my deposit or is there a way around? Nothing was allocated to me VIN etc., if this helps.

    Thanks for your help.

Yes, if you've test driven beforehand, you'll be up against it to get your deposit back. Add the €250 to the cost of going with a PHEV.

That's Tesla's policy but the law is slightly different as the relevent point is the conclusion of the contract, which, if done online was a distance sale with a right of withdrawal. Whether it's worth getting into a protracted dispute for the sake of €250 from the overall cost is another matter!

I would still argue that you made the deposit online. It’s a distance transaction.

Send them one last email stating you will open a small claims court proceeding against them if it’s not returned within 7 days.

I'm about to buy a Model 3 LR with the 0.99% PCP. I would prefer to get a 252 plate, would anyone have any ideas of the lead times? I'll be going with the standard gray color. I don't want to order today and end up collecting the car on the 30th of June, well I don't really care but the wife does 🙈

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 914 ✭✭✭antfin

If you order 1 July you should get a mid-September delivery date as they tend to focus deliveries around quarter end.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,858 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

this time next year, it will make,no difference if it’s a 251 or 252.

Not sure if that’s a good thing or bad thing 😂

The trade in on the wife wouldn't be great! The 0.99% is a great deal, I'd be afraid that they'll pull it if I asked for a July delivery

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,858 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

I’d just order it and see how the ball rolls. You may find yourself in a July + delivery anyway.

Believed to be yes. Would seem the most logical approach.

Couple of transporters due to dock in Zeebrugge in the coming days…

Schelde Highway on route to Dublin docking tomorrow 🤔

Definitely MY RWD sitting in Dublin Port now anyway. Not sure if they came off Schelde Highway or otherwise.

Spoke to Tesla who said they are waiting for more to land before transporting to Baldonnell/Cork.

Tempted to ring them up myself. Delivery window starts tomorrow and not a dicky bird from them as yet.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,858 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

Will make no difference. They are reading from the screen with as much info as you already know IMO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 125 ✭✭antseanoifig

I'm same window as you I'd imagine, the line they gave me was as expected. It's a "window" so doesn't mean you'll have any choices just yet.

Would assume many others are sitting at Dublin Port.

Going by my window I had last year for the Highland. I received a delivery slot within the first 5 days of my delivery timeframe. Hopefully it will be the same for the Juniper.

Delivery window pushed out to mid June latest. Not surprised but a bit disappointing.
