Anyone old enough to remember Timmy Mallett? Not a name you heard often these days. But he's doing a cycling tour around Ireland and regularly updates tiktok with short videos. Well worth a look if you have some time to kill.

I am old enough to remember him,he will be 70 himself this year - great to see him keeping himself fit and active, and his videos are well worth a watch.

You can catch some of them on YouTube too.

The last one I watched was the Blacksod lighthouse one which was very interesting.

He has cycled around England too, and I think might have written a book off the back of it.

For those of you old enough not to be on Tik Tok, he also posts those videos on his YouTube channel.

He is also posting his videos on Facebook. Watched some great videos of his journey through Sligo and Mayo. Great advertisement for the WAW.

Quirky BBC/TV-AM television "personality" of the type and era whose name you would not have been surprised to hear mentioned in connection with Operation Yewtree or subsequent similar ones, though he wasn't, and to the best of my knowledge is a fine upstanding chap.

    indeed.

he was a kid's TV presenter rather than a TV:AM style one IIRC. mallett's mallet, all that jazz.

a colleague of mine in the UK helps out in a bike shop from time to time to earn credit; mallett called in one day and apparently was a total gent.

Sadly OP yes I am old enough to have been entertained by him and his lunatic moves on kids TV.

I'll take a look, nice to still see him fit and healthy and out and about

Thanks For that. I looked him up on Wikipedia and I recognise him now from a photo of him taken back in the 80's!

For those of you not on TikTok or Facebook, he also posts on Instagram 😁 I started following him a while back when he was going around Northern Ireland then was delighted to see him come back some time later to Sligo, Mayo, etc. He's made his way down the west coast, not sure where he is at the moment but he seems to have a great time wherever he goes meeting locals, finding out local history, doing a couple of paintings and leaving a memento in the odd place for his brother Martin.

Anything that promotes cycling and holidays out away from Dublin is to be welcomed

As @NIMAN said he did NI last year and he's doing Ireland now, and who doesn't remember Mallet's Mallet 😀

I really like his style of videos, follow him on Instagram, think he does 50-80km a day and gives a lot of knowledge on the local area

I’ve been watching him. Probably hadn’t even thought of the fella in about 25 years but he appeared on tiktok.

seeing he’s only a few months short of his 70th birthday so fair play. Seems like a decent lad with a genuine interest in travel, cycling and visiting new places.
