Apparently the A330NEO is in the order, I wonder if some are meant for EI

Certainly looks that way, even if not part of the order tomorrow, with it now on the IAG order books it will only be a matter of time.

Wouldn't surprise me to see a similar approach to how the A320neo has been ordered, a few direct replacements spread out over many years.

Ive always been of the opinion that the A330neo is the obvious widebody for EI.
I would suspect their delivery will be something like 2 in 2027, 2 in 2029, 2 in 2030, 2 in 2031 etc. Slow replacement of existing A330s.

21 A330NEOs to be split between level, Iberia or aer Lingus from 2028 onwards.

    Another article from the guardian:

"The “milestone order” also includes a near $8bn deal for 21 Airbus A330-900neo aircraft, which will be deployed across operations including Iberia and Aer Lingus. That deal includes an option to order up to 13 more aircraft."

It will be interesting to see the split amongst the group, I'm especially curious to see if it will be a one for one replacement or will there be less because of the A321XLR's taking over some route's.

3rd AC staying in ORK for winter supposedly…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 217 ✭✭TheBetsy

This has been the case since after covid but I guess there was a question mark whether 3 would stay after AMS was dropped. ORK crew operate SNN-LHR in Winter so maybe it's required for that, or will additional routes be added to replace AMS?

Goodness knows how many hoops the airline will need to jump through to prove it's "worthy" of the investment come 2028 but it's nice to finally have the wide body replacement settled to some degree.

Looks like the A330 will be flying the shamrock well into the 2040s, must make Aer Lingus one of, if not the longest running operators of the type globally?

Regarding "hoops", EI results today show less Q1 losses than the same time last year. Which is a a positive results to show IAG. And the new A321XLRs will deliver cost effective operations over the summer.

I suspect 6-8 of those 21 need to allocated to EI quite quickly.

Replacements needed in the pipeline for DAA, DUZ, DUO.
ELA, EDY and EAV were delivered in 2008/2009.

So thats 6 within the next 3-5 years, with another 2 to replace EIK and EIL.
Im not sure where GEY fits into this as the next two XLR deliveries are supposed to replace it.

Any plans to expand outside USA/longer routes (CUN, CPT, GRU?) would require additional airframes.

    FNG/FNH were 2018 deliveries, GCF/GAJ and EIN/EIM are younger.
The IAG order also has options for additional A330neo's. So we could see those converted in a few years time.

I see EI-DAA is on the approach to Dublin after a 6 day stay in Denver since 3/5. Does anyone know what happened to her? Don't see anything on AvHearld.

Was the previous argument against the 330neo that it wasn’t available in an engine that would be easy for EI to introduce from a M&E pov !?
What engines are these likely to come with?
Or have a crossed wires here altogether?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 72,842 ✭✭✭✭L1011

Rollers, the only type they have.

They had to cross the line at some point, as GE 330s were rare towards the end so there really wasn't a supply of second hand ones around for expansion / replacement of the 90s frames.

The A330neo are only available with the Trent7000 engine. It does not appear have had the same issues as the Trent1000 used in the 787. So yes, Aer Lingus will cross the line but unless they crossed an even line and went to Boeing, there isn't much choice.

Not that it's likely, but could the A339 reach the likes of SIN & GRU with a full load?

Singapore might be a push with a full load

Bigger issue would be coming home with the headwinds.

So without 787s or A350s looks like we can put that one to bed for the foreseeable.
