I think most fans forget the word professional . It’s a job at the end of the day,

Real Madrid made a €20m (£17m) bid for him in January, Liverpool chose not to accept it.

How are we all feeling about the pending "where does Trent rank in PL history of RB" click bait articles?

    1. Kyle Walker

    2. Trent

    3. Neville

    4. Coleman

    5. Zabaleta

    For me

I suppose if a man left his wife and said “I love you so much but here’s a better offer for me financially and I get to, eh, have a new challenge with another lady” then you’d just expect her to say “you know, I understand - thanks and good luck!”. He clearly wants to leave, so just go and stop saying things which he doesn’t really mean. And good luck to him, he’s been brilliant for Liverpool, the best right back there’s ever been in the Premier Lea, when everything is taken into consideration.

And that was the week leading up to the Man U game, Trent’s people would have known it was coming and nothing should have been a distraction to Liverpool or Trent that week. It showed in his performance.

I’d have Azpilicueta over every one of those, bar Trent. Thought he was a class player at his peak. Denis Irwin too even though he spent most of his time at left back. Neville was solid. Walker excellent too, lacking in the attacking department but great to stop the counters.

Spurs got their game moved. Disgraceful stuff. One rule for some.

It's set a precedent going forward I suppose, but Villa fans can definitely feel aggrieved.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,909 ✭✭✭✭8-10

If you consider Irwin a RB (and I can see why you might I just think of him as a LB in the league) then he's number 2 for me behind Walker.

Forgot Azpilicueta completely to be honest. I think my top 4 would stay the same but he's probably ahead of Zabaleta.

Few class RB's didn't have their prime years in the league unfortunately, Christian Panucci and Markus Babbel come to mind.

    Pure BS alright.

Didn’t Villa vote with 3 clubs against the other 16 on something recently ?

I wonder are the premier league willing to treat those 4 teams differently.

Or it could be that they are just good pals with Daniel Levy.

Either way, I can’t find the rearranged fixtures to see if it’s leading to a FPL DGW.

Branislav Ivanovic another weird option to consider undoubtedly a natural center back but played pretty much only RB for his Chelsea career to fairly impressive results.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 342 ✭✭FreshG

hahahahahahah Kyle Walker the greatest RB in history. That's a good one. Just because he could run fast on the recovery, to paper over his poor positioning, doesn't mean that he was a great RB, let alone the best ever. Teams used to regularly target him as he always switched off at the back post.

How you don't have Azpilcueta or Ivanovic even considered is a joke, but you have included Walker, Trent, Coleman and Zabaleta. You basically just sorted by which team has won the most PLs and included their RB, and through in Coleman on top.

Tbf Walker is better than Trent in that Walkers insane pace meant he generally got himself back into position before the damage was irreversible unlike Trent who needed someone like Henderson to cover up that gaping holes Trent left.

Why would a defender that is awful as a defender be in the conversation as the best ever defender in that position?

Best non defending defender TAA is top class but as an actual right back and what that entails? Naw, not having it.

So Spurs and Man Utd will get the same preparation time for the Europa League Final now, which is completely fair.

The previous fixture was giving a big advantage to Man Utd only instead, and giving Spurs a big disadvantage.

Why should the PL be looking out for the Uefa comp though?

They didn't move Villas game vs Liverpool, which villa requested, despite PSG getting way more prep time for the game against villa? How is that 'fair'?

The PL don't consier fairness with regards to TV fixtures at any other point?

Will teams playing in Europe on Weddnesday now have to play their games on Friday? As they have set the precedent on a fair turn around?

No issue with Spurs making the request, but once villa said no that should have been the end of it - why should villa be compormised in their aims because of Spurs? other teams fighting for top 5 that weekend that play on a Saturday or Sunday now have more rest than Villa do. Fair?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 342 ✭✭FreshG

Villa only said no out of spite, they didn't say no based on sporting grounds, or fairness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,479 ✭✭✭✭CSF

Villa wanted to get the same competitive advantage that other teams have been getting against them all season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,909 ✭✭✭✭8-10

I added Azpilicueta in a later post if you check above

And not sure how you think I've sorted by which team has won the most PLs's and ended up with no Arsenal or Chelsea players but an Everton player in the very short list!

Ivanovic is an interesting shout but not in my top 5

Have you proof of that? Or are you saying it as your opinion.

Just a reminder of the different circumstances.

Villa were on the Wednesday/Tuesday rotation for their PSG quarter final. Such a game is always fixed for Saturday. Villa wanted it moved completely from that weekend to a free midweek. Fine with me, but does set a big precedent. If 6 English teams progress to the CL knockouts and onwards, in each round there could be 3 teams affected in an identical way with the Wed/Tues rotation, so a significant amount of games could be moved very late on in the season.

Spurs, by contrast, merely want a game moved forwards 24/36 hours within the same game-week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,479 ✭✭✭✭CSF

Nobody else gets that though. They’ve literally pulled one out of their ass to help Spurs out.

What the Premier League have done for Spurs here is something that I think most people would see as absolutely fine if everyone else wasn’t left to play Saturday morning kickoffs following a Wednesday evening game, or play Sunday 4:30 before the decisive Wednesday CL final round of games.

Villa have been f*cked with this kind of thing all season and are yet still expected to bend over to help Spurs in the secondary competition.

Probably already covered but if United or Spurs win the EL is there still a 5th CL spot through the league?

the spurs game kicks off 45 mins earlier than the utd game.

if both get to the final, thats a bit unfair that spurs have an extra 45 mins preparation time. also the flight to spain from london isnt as long.

i want the 1hr 45mins goddam! (in the name of fairness).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 943 ✭✭✭Dr Robert

Villa should ask for the moved game to be moved 😂

Scenes now as Bodo Glimt get to the final

I went back and looked at who has made the right back position in the premier league team of the year most often. Main takeway is I'd forgotten how often Irish players had made the team! Coleman did once, Garry Kelly twice, Stephen Carr twice, and Steve Finnan three times! Denis Irwin also in 3 times as a left back.

Anyway, the answer to the question is Gary Neville 6x, Kyle Walker 4x and Trent 3x (along with a couple of others) and could make it 4x this season.

Those three realistically are the main contenders for best ever premier league right back.

Just like every England manager, if I had a big match vital to my success I'd be picking other defensive options ahead of TAA.
