I didn't see a thread for this so thought I'd start one. After running the half at the Great Limerick Run today I signed up for the half in Waterford now too

Ran this a year years ago when it finished at the SETU sports campus but think the route has changed since then

done the full a couple of times and didn’t like the route at all and for a few years they had measurement issues

Ya I ran the full myself, think it was 2019 and had a tough day at the office on a hot day. Remember the greenway was a bit of a drag

I ran the full in 2023 on a hot day.

To be honest I wouldn’t go near that race again.

It’s about 95% on the Greenway which is a very, very hard place to be when you’re struggling as there was zero support.

They must have changed the course since I did it.

Was never a fan and it’s way behind Dublin Cork Limerick Galway Bay and many other marathons from a support/customer experience perspective

ps do they shut the Greenway for it?

Can’t imagine that being a race friendly route

As far as I can remember the Greenway was open and they asked runners to keep left.

You started on the Mall and ran along the quay, over Rice Bridge, out through Sallypark and back over the suspension bridge, then it’s greenway all the way out and back until the finish which was moved last year from Bilberry to O Connell Street.

God, it was a terribly boring course the more I think about it.

Was the 2025 edition short again? I am looking at the Strava of the winner 26.02 miles https://www.strava.com/activities/14879605537 and of the second 26.00 miles https://www.strava.com/activities/14879518125 which is very very suspect.

I am training for this and would hate for it to be short again…

I swear if I cross the finish line with 26.0… on my watch, I won't stop, so they better move away. How can this be accredited again? Can they not measure correctly in Waterford?

This guy did that last year, kept on running to make 26.21 miles

I did the 10k last year and it was short by about 100m

The Athletic Ireland website still lists their entry as Pending Approval.

I ran my first half at the Viking in 2013, and it was short: they have form for inability to measure distances.

For the ignorant (me), what's the benefit of the Athletics Ireland permit? Any drawback to not having it approved?

I am ignorant on this matter too. But I think it checks for minimum safety standards, provides insurance for organisers, and guarantees that the distance has been measured correctly (this is a sticky point for Viking's organisers…).

    Still pending, by the way.

The weather seems ok, but the cloudier the better; will feel warm enough.

The heat is now the worry for sure, it's been torrential enough down here over night, but from this afternoon onwards it's looking like picking up.

On Sunday morning, after the first hour, the heat and humidity are going to make it a bit of a slog I reckon.

the MeteoPace app suggests the wind, heat, elevation & humidity would add 7min to a 3hr runner. That suggests a slog for sure
