For anyone who has played Powerscourt's two courses, could you please answer the following:

    1. Which course do you prefer?
    2. Why do you prefer it? (In a sentence or two)

It's for an article I'm writing on the club.

    Many thanks

For me, its the West, possibly because I played it first. Its a real "put your big boy pants on" type of course, really interesting and tough as anything. IMO it seems to be the more unique of the two. Some of the greens could get a little crazy back in the day, especially that par 3 across the valley in the middle of the front nine (6th maybe ?), but always thoroughly enjoyed a round there.

Its a good question as both are great courses and different.

I would say the East is the better track with better challenges in terms of its layout. It forces you to think about your shots as sheer strength is not enough to beat it.

The West has the tougher greens and that is its best defence, but it does not require the range of shot making that exists in the East course.

Two great courses, that are probably only rivaled by Headfort in my opinion.

    Great comments.

Yes, Russman, that's the par-3 6th. I find the 17th to be the wildest green of all. You can putt right off it.

I also prefer East, many parts of the West feel less defined and more open, East is better defined and better challenges as already commented.

much prefer the east, it’s a more traditional varied challenge. The west is wide wide wide open off the tee and of course long like a lot of the new real championship courses and greens are tricky so it’s much harder to go wrong off the tee but still tougher. I always find on the west you are hitting tee shots thinking it’s a lost ball only for it to end up 30 yards from making it to any trouble. It’s basically driver everywhere. East is a more traditional course and a varied challenge for all levels of golfer.

Two fine course, but the East just has the edge for me.

Was there Sunday and while the East greens were slow the course was in good shape.

Care to say why the East edges it for you, Corkey?

Some great holes on both courses but I do prefer the holes on the East, particularly on the first nine. I particularly like the start to the 10, 11, etc. as you head into the country - you feel you are on the course on your own. The West in great also but shaded by the East for me

For anyone interested, several of the responses above are included in the Irish Golfer magazine that has just been issued.

Thanks for the contributions. Much appreciated.
