Yet so many fans taking joy out of Leinster losing without any foresight as to the impact that has on Irish rugby.

Not sure how you could have watched Ross at any point this season and see him as a better choice to start today.

Ross didnt even play well last weekend.

Starting Ross over Prendergast would have made zero difference to the result of the match. He didn't have a great game but neither did the vast majority of the team - something that Ross has shown over and over again that he doesn't have the ability to overcome.

frawley was the 10 that should have been given a chance. If he started today Leinster would have won

3 provinces are utterly disenfranchised due mostly to their own utter incompetence.

People talk all the time about Leinster funding but the other provinces are far better funding than sides they have been losing to all season.

Lads as poor as he was, Jordie Barrett not starting is a bigger joke than whether Sam should have or not.

All this talk of Ross or Frawley starting or whatever impact they would when we chose to start one of the best players in the world on the bench, when he was brought in to play these very games. I’m not saying he should have played 10. He was our best player for 31 minutes today and it’s utter incompetence that he didn’t start.

I don’t think there is anyone other than the coaching ticket that could look at that and say it was the right call.

In 10 years time, when we have hopefully gotten over this hoodoo of bottling it and manage to win a couple of more Champions Cups, I’ll still be saying ‘they left Jordie f*cking Barrett on the bench’

I said "in hindsight". Do you know what that means...

And for what it's worth, Ross would likely not have missed the two kicks that Sam missed.

    "Leinster is so far ahead"

Are they though given what we've seen once again today?

    Northampton missed kicks too..that's Rugby.

100%. Same mistake last year, sending weakened team to ZA and then undercooked for the European Cup.

Leo has serious questions to answer - not good enough.

A lot of fans have given up, and for good reason.

The Irish team is in decline, the Leinster team also and the new imports don’t get them over the line.

Take midfield for example. It’s obvious now in 2025 that Ringrose /Aki and henshaw are not going to be good enough to compete at RWC 2027, but we know bar injury that nobody else is getting a chance between now and then.

You can’t blame selection! We had 100% of our best 23 out there today. Simple as. Barrett playing 50 from beginning v 30 at end is a rounding error. This was a let down by the players . Management not to blame .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,349 ✭✭✭✭Foxtrol

I know well what it means but it implies that the other choice, Ross, would have done a better job knowing how SP played.

Ross is 30 years old and I can't remember a time he has ever shown he can take over a game when most players are not playing well.

Ross has missed plenty of kicks over the years - missed two conversions in the Dublin final - and given his lack of athleticism I don't think he even makes the key tackles Sam missed.

We've also seen how teams defend against Ross and it would have made the attack blunter - it was dumb passing and handling errors that hurt today.

Even in hindsight, there is nothing that makes me feel Ross was the better option to start.

Nonsense. We signed Barrett to be a difference maker and he was benched. He should have been out there for 80 minutes and not been held back until we were chasing the game. It's very difficult to make an impact when you're on the back foot.

Similarly what exactly did Healy give us in 20 minutes today? Boyle should have been there.

And in my opinion, Sam should have been pulled much much sooner. He had a howler today.

Just home from the match. I have lots of opinions and comments around it I can’t go into now (due to being half pissed and I’ll get banned), but that preference is not acceptable anymore at this stage of competitions. This is the best club team for a couple of years, and certainly this year on paper. I haven’t read any comments since Thursday here so I don’t know the general feel but that has to be the end of Leo Cullen. This can’t be accepted in my opinion. If he doesn’t have bollocks to hand in his notice on Tuesday it should done for him.

    You absolutely can blame selection.

When you have signed one of the best players in the world in an attempt to win the Champions Cup, and you leave him on the bench for the semi final - that is utterly shocking.

The management made that decision. There wasn't a player on the park today that is on Barrett's level. And our management left him on the bench.

That is not on the players. That is on the management.

What an utter waste of time signing Jordie Barrett was. And that is on the management for not playing him in the games he was signed to play in.

Genuinely don't know how you can defend that decision.

Not good enough today. We have built up a lot of these players as something they are not. Simple fact is that Leinster are not the best team in Europe.

Papers have allowed us to believe Conan, Ringrose and others are world class. Realization is now happening that they're not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,029 ✭✭✭For Petes Sake

Funny how you mention Aki and Ringrose when Munster have done f*ck all about it producing a centre for the last 30 years.

All the other provinces need to get their own houses in order instead of wanting Leinster to be dragged down to the sh*tshows they find themselves in.

Imagine whinging about the plight of Irish rugby while wishing ill on the only province trying to keep it alive. It's like turkey's voting for Christmas and I'll never understand it.

Will a URC win save Leo?

This Leinster side head to head with NH was far better on paper, they just didn't play up to their level while NH did - fair play to them.

The people who have been blowing the most smoke about the greatness of this Leinster side are those who seem to spend more time moaning about Leinster's perceived advantages than supporting their own team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,195 ✭✭✭TRC10

And to the surprise of absolutely no one, the serial chokers choke yet again 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,099 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

Such an illogical decision on every level. Why the **** did they bother bringing him in in the first place? I mean they didn't even put him on at h/t when Leinster were in trouble.

What a waste. I won't hold my breath on Leo Cullen or anyone else being held to account for their decisions here. With the resources at their disposal this season someone's head has to roll.

    Undercooked. Devastated

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,759 ✭✭✭✭aloooof

    This is rubbish.

It’s not “blowing smoke” to suggest this Leinster side have underachieved in the last number of seasons, regardless of what province you support.

I daresay the vast majority of Leinster fans feel the same way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 909 ✭✭✭johnh6767

Blaming selection is rediculous. It’s saying that the difference in that game was Jordie Barrett being on and Henshaw being off for 20 minutes. Nonsense. The starting 15 were exceptional and it’s on the hunger & game management of the Saints / missed tackles & game mismanagement from Leinster that put us away. Coaches can’t play the game. Player accountability is where this lies. 2011 was the same in reverse. Player accountability won the game, Sexton leading the way. Tommy O’Brien showed up yesterday , others didn’t , won’t name as they’re torturing themselves and don’t need a tag. Gutted beyond words

Interesting to see a fair amount of anger at Leo on social media. Its necessary to separate the schadenfruede noise from signal but he's got away with leading underperforming teams for a long time, partly by having a rotating cast of coaches coming and going under him. But it will be hard to skate on this one as they've recruited both players and ninebar specifically to overcome the kind of thing that happened this weekend and the constant is Leo. I agree that leaving Barrett on the bench at kickoff was really dumb, when you've got a guy like that available it's insane not to use him in a knockout game. Any coach on earth would bite your hand off to coach Leinster.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,972 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

No, I think it's absolutely fair to question the coaches on selection. They messed it up in last seasons final and did it again yesterday. In 2024 VDF should have started and in 2025 Barrett should have togged out at 12.

It's better if we leave off diagnosing this season's issues until it officially ends. There's still a trophy to be won. But selection policy must be brought up internally.

Coaches and players should both be held accountable. Leinsters much heralded defence has been picked apart 2 weeks in a row. Different players but playing the same system.

There's definitely a problem there with finishing off the business end of the season, but there's also the viewpoint that at least they're always in the mix at the business end of the season rather than choking at an earlier stage and leaving fans sitting at home the last few weekends with only other provincial colleagues to support. At the same time it's another year without an Irish team being the best in Europe which is getting worrying at this stage with potentially only one province left in Europe next year!
