That would be amazing. Great album. Like that album, his stuff prior to White Ladder is brilliant. I personally think A Century Ends tour would be better. There's not 1 song on that album that I don't love.

I will say there is something people saying it is "middle-aged muck savage" brigade that make/made these gigs horrendous.

I said I was at the White Ladder 3 Arena gig. There was a pair of couples behind us that were talking throughout the gig. At one stage one of the bloke (probably early 50s) starts shouting "Up Limerick. Up Limerick" FFS.

It isn't the drink that makes these gig goers inconsiderate arseholes it's the fact they're inconsiderate arseholes.

I went to one of the 3 Wolftones concerts last year too. I think I decided that night even if I was at gun point I don't think I'd ever be able to vote for SF.

    Nail on the head.

I know people going tonight that mentioned the bar closure to me and my first thought was, these people will find a way to get locked. God help security.

I'm no angel myself and had a few during Peter Gabriel, but I left it to beforehand and the interval. I don't know why you'd go to the bother of seeing someone like David Gray in the Three Arena and be constantly getting up for a gargle while he's playing.

From what I’ve heard and seen so far from people at it, it’s been another car crash. An awful lot of people half-cut on arrival and some have been passing around drink.

This is without considering the fact that closing the bars will not have any impact on the white nose powder, as that was never on sale from the venue.

What a bizarre development. David Gray gigs go punk. They'll be spitting at him next, throwing wheelchairs onstage. Quite exciting, watching the whole thing pan out.

That w***er christy Moore has been doing this for years and people didn't mind,

herself is there with a few friends, will get the low down shortly. Pretty sure you could be describing any gig/anytime/anywhere there. Half cut and passing around drink? We’re in sodom and gomorrah territory here folks!!

The problem is the venue is huge and only 50% of crowd are going be big fans and the rest will be Gobshites

David Gray full house 3 Arena . Bar closed but people got their drinks in beforehand …some well beforehand.

He did all the classics some new stuff . Did Say Hello Wave Goodbye , at length tonight and The Old Main Drag and many more ..Depeche Mode yes , but it was awful .

Good concert , beautiful singing and playing , A bit slow for me but enjoyed it .

But maaan , some of the crowd were rough and despite being fans ie belting out the choruses of the popular hits , and singing Ole David , yes ...talked all the way through , and were falling in and out to the loo frequently , ffs .

That's the trouble with a seated concert ..if you are unlucky with who is seated around you you are stuck with it .

Maybe I'm just narky because I only had two drinks before the gig and no white nose powder as per another post above 😂

Jeez are people not able to sit down for 2.5 hours to listen to a musician without some medicinals ?

I was at it tonight. He was brilliant - set list was excellent, but even with the bars closing when he was on, there was quite a lot of people heading.

There were quite a lot of arseholes unfortunately. I had to ask 2 women behind me to keep it down during Flame Turns Blue, as they just would not stop talking. I swear they didn't take a breath for half an hour. There was another bloke beside them that kept shouting that I had to ask to stop. He then kept apologising & saying he could get me a beer if I wanted. No thanks.

At one stage, David Gray had pretty much started a song and some bloke on the ground floor started on at him to play another song. Like come on ffs.

I would be extremely surprised if he ever plays the 3Arena again.

Special mention for Talia Rae. What a voice.

No excuse for obnoxious bullies at concerts but ...

the people who are not drugged or drunk and who talk incessantly during songs really take the biscuit. I think they should have special pretend concerts for people like that. Or maybe a special room at the venue.

I really enjoyed the gig, he still has a great voice. I thought Babylon was epic.

It was my first gig in years & years, I was up at the back so I had a good overall view so it struck me the constant amount of people in & out to the toilets but naive me now after reading the above it was probably to powder the auld nose… & not to use the facilities! Times have changed ..

Saw a few people absolutely wasted falling walking up the steps at the back & another few getting turfed out & I was sure one of them was going to kick off about it but the stewards diffusesd him & this was only half an hour after David started! What a waste of a ticket!

There was a Bit of jeering & whistling at David telling him to hurry up & sing the classics which was bizarre I thought but Some people can’t help themselves!

As much as I enjoyed it I don’t think the 3arena is the place for a David gray gig, the arena attracts too many boneheads unfortunately.

The church I had to attend in the 90s had a "crying room" for parents and young kids, they could hear the priest and no one could hear them.

Never imagined something the church offered an idea I'd want to implement... But the idea of putting all those talkers behind a soundproof glass screen at gigs really is heaven!

    Similar overall for me.

First gig in Dublin for about 10 years. We were sat up the back pretty central. Lucky with the people either side and in front of us but a group of four or five loud enough Dubs behind us, but they seemed to quieten down as it went on.

Saw one lad when we were going in, off his absolute tits. Eyes gone and wobbling walk. Bizarre stuff. Saw a young enough couple then come in as David was about to start with four drinks each!!

One of the things that amused me the most was the attire. Saw a cupla very smartly dressed chaps in suits and then the Anto and Deco in their Nike short suits.

The gig itself was excellent. David Gray was great, voice amazing, band were bang on it. I think he seemed to enjoy the gig too, maybe a cathartic type thing given how the first gig went.

Christy must have a very short memory, very fond of the stuff in his heyday!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,888 ✭✭✭✭Goldengirl

Brilliant ! And just pipe the music in the background to them with ready made videos of the hits to download so they don't have to.interript their catch up 😂

Absolutely bonkers that there is this type of behaviour and having to close the bars at a David Gray gig....

I saw him yonks ago in the point, it was an ok gig but I nearly fell asleep and I was standing...

Wow. That's a strange and probably uninformed/ignorant comment. Been a long time since Christy was drinking. His heyday is continuing.

As someone who absolutely loved A Century Ends, Flesh, Lost Songs and Sell, Sell, Sell; as well to be fair as White Ladder, and seen him heaps of times in the late 90s; I have no idea what the new music is like. Lost interest completely after the New Day at Midnight album which just didnt work for me - which of the later albums would you recommend?
