Many commentators including Mearsheimer consistently state that NATO/ Ukraine are an existential threat to Russia and Russia perceives it as such. As I illustrated previously, Rand wrote about destabilizing Russia via Ukraine.

Again your commentary is one sided, you neglect to mention Kolomoyskyi who backed Zelensky in his election or the corruption exposed within Ukraine recently.

    https://www.newsweek.com/ukraine-zelensky-corruption-problem-1863644

You focus only on Russian corruption.

So, reverting back to the original poster, one may see that choosing an extreme lens through which to view Ukraine or Russia is not really that productive. The best help we could give would be to understand the nuances and help negotiate a ceasefire between the warring countries.

What is the nuance behind a country led by gangsters invading another country?

Russia knew they were never in danger of being invaded, it was just an excuse to invade Ukraine.

Is it true that most of these rare minerals are in land held by Russia? How are the US/Ukraine going to get them?

Im just going to steal a quote from Frasier here...

Engineerws, at Cornell University they have an incredible piece of scientific equipment known as the tunneling electron microscope. Now, this microscope is so powerful that by firing electrons you can actually see images of the atom, the infinitesimally minute building block of our universe. Engineerws, if I were using that microscope right now... I still wouldn't be able to locate any facts or point to your post.

You are correct (ignoring for a second the “and more” bit of the sentence) but this could be a weekly thing now, remember Biden admin drip dripping 100m here and 100m there before you know it three years passed and a million Russians are dead or wounded and Russia is struggling to capture a pothole in the backarse of nowhere

As usual with Trump admin and senate/congress it’s not about what they claim but what they do

I for one am curious if US oil/gas majors that are very much hurting now have more sway over WH policy than Putin

    Mearshiemer?

Wowe we really hitting all the vatnik bingo numbers today

What did Russians accomplish by taking out eyes and organs of that poor journalist, one has to wonder

@engineerws "The best help we could give would be to understand the nuances and help negotiate a ceasefire between the warring countries."

What nuances? Russians are mass murderers, they have been since Russia came into existence. The only way to negotiate with them is to kill them.

It looks like history is starting up again.

Yes, but these commentators including Mearsheimer are either severely compromised or complete morons who have never looked up the words "existential threat" in a dictionary.

The only threat Ukraine represented to anyone in Russia was the threat of a successful slavic country on their border engaging with the west displaying how much Putin and his coterie have ravaged and destroyed Russia. It is never been anything but a threat to Putin and him alone.

In fairness, there are nuances to the way you eject a person through a window or insert barbed wire into their rectum. Those are the type of nuances Russia does.

Tensions are rising in temporarily occupied Crimea following a precision Ukrainian strike on russian 96L6E air defense radar system near the town of Saky on April 25. According to the Atesh partisan movement, which includes agents embedded within the russian military, the strike has caused significant alarm among occupying forces and led to a shift in their operational posture.

The 96L6E radar system, part of russia's integrated air defense network, plays a critical role in detecting aerial threats, including low-flying aircraft and drones.

Its destruction has reportedly fueled fears among russian personnel that Ukraine is methodically working to degrade russia's electronic warfare and radar capabilities in Crimea.

Damage to said radar, likely by a drone launched from a maritime drone.

I think the Orcs in Crimea are getting their breeders and Orclings out while there is still a bridge they can cross.

Do you understand that NATO is a defensive pact that has never threatened the existence of the russian federation?

Why do you keep repeating lies?

Are you claiming efforts in Ukraine to tackle corruption are somehow justification for putin's terrorists attacking Ukraine?

In case people thought the torture and execution of the Ukrainian journalist was from some low ranked unit. No it was from the highest level known and approved of.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,021 ✭✭✭✭cnocbui

Viktoria Roshchyna, was starved, tortured and murdered by the Orcs:

    Viktoria Roshchyna.jpg

Her body weight dropped to 30Kg in Orc captivity. Her body had stab wounds, the signs of electric shocks so strong they left burns, broken bones and signs of beatings. Apparently the removal of her brain, eyes and larynx wasn't to conceal signs of torture, it was a message, as those are the tools with which a journalist does their job.

I sincerely hope the funds I have given Ukraine have secured the deaths of multiple of these sub humans.

NATO is not a threat to Russia - no one wants to invade nuclear armed Russia.

NATO is a threat to Putin's plans to invade other NATO countries. As evidenced by Russia invading Ukraine before it could join NATO.

Like Hitler, Putin re-uses the encirclement narrative in order to portray that Russia is somehow being "surrounded". Countries like Finland are joining NATO in order to protect themselves against future Russian aggression - Finland obviously has no plans to invade Russian territory.

Note the "concerned" act about Ukrainian corruption in order to apply some fake balance. Always seeking to minimize Putin's actions whilst attempting to highlight something, anything negative about Ukraine - which is the standard M.O. of Kremlin propaganda.

"Mearshiemer? Wowe we really hitting all the vatnik bingo numbers today"

Same thought exactly when I read the vatnik's post. The other poster who pointed out this garbage comes up when something bad is currently happening to RuZZia is spot on. The story about that poor journalist, the loss of their air defence system, the mineral 'deal' giving the US the opportunity to punt on the peace deal and sell more weapons, just a bad day in Mordor.

The fact you've spent a year or more jumping onto this thread to justify the invasion is not a great look. This has required you to ignore numerous war crimes. On top of that it's required you to ignore Putin has made clear since day one that "Russification" was a key part of the invasion, on top of that he repeatedly likened himself to Peter The Great post invasion. None of that sounds like a nation on the defensive and it's pretty telling that the likes of Mearsheimer simply avoid these inconvenient facts.

You are defending a tyrant, you are defending war crimes and a nation that intends to wipe out Ukrainian identity entirely.

bahahahah, this is comedy level of justification

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 679 ✭✭✭engineerws

It's not justification. Not sure if you ever studied history but when I did we looked at the causes that led to the rise of Hitler etc.

The disgraced Schwab has a good article

    https://www.jstor.org/stable/26376610

The causes don't justify the outcome but enable us to understand better the situation and how people can be driven to despair and plumb the depth of depravity. The person who doesn't steal despite being hungry or penniless is an exemplar of mortality when put to the test.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 536 ✭✭✭vswr

You're referring to an era when Stalin was in power, trying to nullify and justify current Russian aggression in Ukraine along with trying to compare corruption levels between the two states.

That is disability level mental gymnastics comedy gold. Keep these post going, you have me in tears here laughing.

Do you understand that NATO is a defensive pact that has never threatened the existence of the russian federation?

I don't think anyone believes that. NATO leader USA (current paying 70 cent in every dollar to murder children in Gaza) via USAID etc has quite a history. Only recently they were discussing the most effective means to unbalance Russia.

    https://www.rand.org/pubs/research_briefs/RB10014.html

Lots of Americans hate Russia, just listen to Lindsay Graham.

No, I'm not justifying the war.

@engineerws why are you so keen to argue Putin's point-of-view when it's so at odds with reality?

Is it out of some twisted admiration for a murderous tyrant? Financially motivated? Part of some mental health rabbit hole you've let yourself descend after realising that the American Empire hasn't been a universally good thing and now anything bad for the USA is okay by you?

I'm not asking out of malice or out of some attempt to attack the poster. I'm genuinely curious as to how someone can allow themselves to ignore reality and become the proverbial "useful idiot".
