    Again.

    Culture war nonsense.

The press need to cop on and hammer the press secretary with questions that really matter, and not get distracted by this utter racist-bait nonsense.

Ask and ask again about Ukraine, Israel, tariffs and inflation.

It's ok, with the China tariffs, the number of boats arriving from China will drop next month so there will be layoffs of drivers because there will be **** all containers to truck throughout the US.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,430 ✭✭✭✭VinLieger

Drop is actually starting this week and trucking companies were already finding it difficult to keep drivers active due to lower freight numbers

ICE deports a 4 year old child with cancer, who is a US citizen, no less.

Can't think of any currently sitting US president that fits to a 'T' … or can I?

The IMF's boffins say they can start to see the impact from space as satellites track fewer, increasingly empty ships leaving China's ports. Of course this will be denied by the US.

Commercial satellites can track container ships even if AIS is off.

Slow steaming will lengthen journey times to keep ships busy.

The child wasnt deported, the mother was, and she wanted to take her child with her, as most people would. For whatever reason, she didn't seem to want to leave the child in the US with their father or other family. Would it be better for them to deny the mothers wishes and forcibly seperate them instead? Either way, it's a no win situation for the government.

I do think that they should have let them stay at least until the child had finished treatment though. I hope there is treatment where they are going, or she can apply to return legally with her child somehow or arrange for someone she trusts to take her.

Doge is a bunch of ignorant rude tech bros who don't know how government works .They are sacking people who work in social security .if you ring social security you ll wait hours to talk to someone and probably be told to go to a far away office .The problem is old people on disability find it hard to travel a long distance .

75 million Americans rely to some extent on social security children old people and single mothers I think Elon is on the autistic scale I don't think he realizes even working people need medicaid and social security

Yrump says he wants more people to have children while taking apart agencys that provide medical support to parents

A recession is coming and the falling dollar will.makw it even worse Meanwhile government spending is not falling tax revenue is falling as staff at the IRS who collect taxes are sacked

Investors are fleeing America to invest in gold or other safe foreign investments

America is losing status as a safe place to invest

Trump says he wants Americans to have more children? Didn't Putin say that to the Russians a few years ago?

Ironically the Canadian conservative party could legitimately claim that they suffered from election interference because Trump's actions that completely flipped political opinion in canada right before the vote.

Just like Brexit in 2016, whenever the crazies get a win, it undermines their counterparts abroad as people on the fence get clear evidence that the policies they advocate are destructive and counterproductive.

Alternatively, if they won because of Trump's endorsement they would be telling the liberals to STFU.

It's bizarre how people fawn over Trump yet no matter who he chooses to endorse in an election, they always lose!

The only reason this stupidity continues is that nobody likes to be told they're stupid and would prefer to keep their heads in the sand.

Trump didn't actually endorse anyone in the Canadian election. He posted on Truth Social urging Canadians to vote for the man who would bring Canada into the US as the 51st state. But no party, and SFAIK no candidate, in the Canadian elections supported this idea. He specifically didn't call for people to vote for Poilievre, who he says is "no friend of mine" and has "said negative things".

Trump's hostility towards Canada has been a signficant factor in the elections, with Canadians overwhelmning rallying to the flag. The Liberals have benefitted from this rather than the Conservatives, but that's not because the Conservatives have aligned themselves with Trump's policies towards Canada — in fact they strongly reject them. It's more because, before Trump embarked on this madness, Poilievre was seen as somewhat Trump-like — a right-wing populist calling for lower taxes and smaller government, with a somewhat confrontational relationship with LGBTQ advocacy groups, a fixation with free speech but rather less concern for other rights and freedoms, a more restrictive attitude to immigration, opposition to vaccine mandates, a cheap "Canada first!" slogan, etc.

The truth is that there's a great gap between Poilievre and Trump, and seeing Poilievre as a Canadian analogue of Trump wouild be very unfair to Poilievre. But Canadian voters wanting to express resistance to Trump's ambitions with regard to Canada in particular, and to Trump's values and attitudes in general, were always going to vote for Carney rather than for Poilievre.

The Trump Effect has been particularly strong in Canada because of Trump's open aggression towards Canada, but there is reason to think that it also operate in other countries. Right-populist leaders who have sought to echo some of Trump's attitudes or adopt some of his style are now paying an electoral price for that as voters look at the the US and decide that they don't want a leader that looks anything like Trump.

    MAGAs response is contradictory surprisingly…

    1. Election was rigged.
    2. This was Trumps plan all along. He wanted Carney to win so he can bully him

39% overall approval rating, no issue polling above 48% favorable for CFTrump.

    https://apnorc.org/projects/100-days-in-and-the-public-feels-trumps-presidency-is-proceeding-mostly-as-expected/

    also (https://archive.ph/BdpTI)

Laughably low ratings for 100 days into an administration.

At the next presser, I wonder if BS Barbie will say Trump congratulates Carney and looks forward to working with him…nah, he'll make it about himself and she'll just pass that through while taunting the reporters.

Looking forward to Carney as PM, Canada made a good choice, a serious economist in charge during wildly uncertain times. Canada with closer ties to the EU and China will be something to behold. Plus, Canadians aren't vacationing in the US and are selling their vacation homes.

Trudeau's speech when CFTrump announced tariffs set the wheels in motion. Blaming everything on Trump started the momentum in Canada, they were removing products from shelves and booing at hockey matches the next day. Imagine if they announce a big trade deal with China, oh my the meltdown from Mar-a-Lago will be intense.

And with all the talk of Trump backing off on tariffs, it's approaching 'that horse has left the barn' point. The rest of the world is close to completely moving on from the US as a favored trading partner, China is gleefully increasing their network. Even Japan, who are rightfully wary of China, are exasperated. It might've been Japan dumping US debt recently that got the tariff nonsense paused again. Japan is the largest holder of US Debt, too. That Japanese politician ripping CFTrump to shreds in their parliament was very telling, they normally are a pretty reserved bunch when it comes to foreign politics.

And, tariffs won't be enough to fix his polling - jettison a couple **** from the cabinet or high posts like Hegseth and Navarro, new press secretary, and dial back Doge, reopen the SS offices and undo any reductions to Medicaid. Congress can do something about that in the upcoming budget negotiations, but they'll be the prolonged, up to the last minute nonsense people have grown inured to.

Carney's victory will reveal more layers of MAGA deception, lies and general nonsense. MAGA and Brexit, the gifts that keep on giving.

He cut off his own epileptic nephew's healthcare because his parents contested Fred Trump's will. Trump has always been this way. Always.

Trumps meddling brought the Liberals back from the dead.

In early January, support for the Conservative party peaked at 44 percent in polls. The Liberals were down to only 20 percent.

People are very fickle, it seems to be a common occurence around the world, people complain and slate the incumbent party only to re-elect the same incompetent/corrupt politicians at the polling booth.

People deserve the politicians they elect.

Pretty sure someone like Elon 'empathy is a weakness' Musk would be only too happy to see social security be decimated and a lot of 'useless eaters' perish along with it. In his view, human life only has as much value as its productivity.

There's such irony here, Trump is incredibly corrupt. He's literally got the FBI jailing his political enemies ATM. I do agree though, the US has gotten what it deserves at this stage.

Aside from the UK Conservatives, it's hard to think of a more burnt out, useless party than Canada's Liberals. American Conservatism is so hateful and toxic that Carney and Trudeau's lot have risen from the ashes like a phoenix. It's a turn of fortune not often seen.

People deserve the politicians they elect.

That statement ignores the reality of how close many elections are. We see Trump and his staff insisting he has a mandate for what he is doing, when in reality only less then 1 in 3 of all eligible voters voted for him and of those who did vote, only 1.5% more voted for him than for Kamala.

People who voted for Trump in 2020 got the fastest recovery from Covid, very significant pieces of legislation, strong stock markets and low unemployment because Biden won.

75M People went out to vote in the last election and selected Kamala for President, they have to suffer through the most negatively impactful US Presidential opening of their lifetimes.

It's incorrect to suggest they deserve that just because they took part in the election.

Trumps meddling? He repeatedly called for the end of Canada as a nation and threatened them with Tariffs if they didn't comply with his wishes.

That is not meddling, that is outright hostility and open aggression.

People aren't fickle; the situation changed. While they had issues with how the Liberals were running their country, these issues paled into insignificance when compared to an external threat to their very existence.

Carney said he would protext Canada, would stand strong against the bully that the US voters put in. Sounds like a perfectly reasonable position for the lectorate to take. They put aside their small individual concerns for the greater good.

Its a pity that Trump supporters could do the same and instead felt that Kamala's laugh or same sex toilets were the bigger issues than letting a fraud and SAer and declared wannabe dictator into the most powerful position in the country.

Labour in the Uk say they have a mandate too.

After all they secured 412 seats and the largest majority government in 25 years.

Of course Labour only received 33.8% of the total vote, a measly 1.7% higher than the previous election.

Carney said he would protext Canada, would stand strong against the bully that the US voters put in. Sounds like a perfectly reasonable position for the lectorate to take. They put aside their small individual concerns for the greater good.

And Polievre wouldnt protect Canada is it ?

Polievre is more of a nationalist than Carney, he would have been tough on Trump.

Give him a few more days after that and he'll flip it then to "I helped him bigly, if it wasn't for me, Carney would never have got elected"

I think you'll find that people are patriotic and when the clown president of your neighbouring country decides to belittle you as a nation and a people, declare that you should really be a subservient state to him and not a sovereign country, those people will vote for who is most vocal in defending them.

Carney came out fighting from the get go against Trump while Poilievre was too little too late. It was only in early March that the premier of Alberta, Danielle Smith said that, while there would always be disagreements, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre would be "very much in sync with … the new direction in America"

Being patriotic is not fickle. I'm sure every MAGA will be able to tell you that!
