You wait for a call to say when you are starting, and where. Then when you finish training, and get to your depot, you apply for a different depot, if that's what you want.

my advice is take the first thing your offered if your reasonably happy with the location. Worry about transferring down the line

@Midnight_EG how soon did they hear back that they were unsuccessful? Did they wait long to get the rejection?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,815 ✭✭✭Midnight_EG

    Within a few days

An email first to ask when the best time to contact is. Pm me the number that rang and I'll tell you if it's HR

As someone who has been on both sides with receiving a rejection last year and acceptance this year I'll lay out what happened with me and it does seem to vary from person to person.

Last year I made it to the Line manager interview and then 2 weeks later I received an email saying I would not be continuing. Anyone who got to this point I would say absolutely try again, it is painful to do the whole process again but it's powerful knowing the whole process start to finish. Also I would absolutely say focus on the STAR interview method and come up with answers for the questions you were asked this time as they were basically the same for me both times.

For this year after the LM interview I got the medical very quickly (can vary) and you can absolutely still fail even though you did the medical and cleared but I do feel that you had to have been close if this is the case. It was just over a week (can vary) after the medical I received a call from a mobile number to say I was being accepted. They give you all the information of start date what the process will be payscale and ask if you have any extended time away booked. I was asked which station I'd prefer and was told there's no guarantee but I did get my requested station, most people are told their station I don't know why mine was different. I didn't receive an email before the phone call so that may vary person to person.

I wish everyone the best of luck and for anyone who receives a rejection email I'll say again absolutely try again it's worth it.

How many here still in for Galway?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6 Johng88

Heuston, Portlaoise is closest to home but I know Dublin was the most obtainable and hopefully in a few years time I could possibly transfer.

There's a waitlist for Portlaoise, but I know lads who got to work out of there in less than a year.

If they ring and miss you, they’ll email you to ask when is best to call back. They had my number already so didn’t ask for it but I missed the initial call and Matthew from HR emailed me to ask when he should ring back. They do seem to go out of their way to let you know it’s them trying to contact you

Best of luck to those of you starting training tomorrow.

Hi all.. Iv had my interview afew months back and medical last Thursday (10th April) wondering how long it took for people to get a response? Also how much notice would they give you for a course date & how long is the course? They did say at the interview but i cant remember 🤣

    Many Thanks 🙏

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,815 ✭✭✭Midnight_EG

2 weeks between medical and the call for me, one months notice to start. 6 months for the course for Diesels, DART is a bit shorter

I had my LM manager interview on the 18th of March, and two days later received an invite to attend the medical on the 24th of March, haven't heard anything since, but I emailed Ciaran in HR last week and the reply was that my application I'd still live and that they would be in touch soon, hope this helps.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8 Kyliet89

Ow brilliant, Thank you. Hope all works out for you. Just wish I knew a time frame 🤣 surely they will give more than 1 months notice for a start date ( as would have to give notice to current employer) Best of look to you 🙏 where did you apply for? X

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,448 ✭✭✭Citizen Six

One months notice to your current employer is more than enough. If they aren't happy with that, then you shouldn't be worried about it.

I got called for medical within 1 week of line manager interview and 4 weeks after medical got the job offer. I just got 1 months notice for class starting on may 12th. So i presume this class is now filled. They may not even have a start date for the next class yet.

Fab Thanks. Their calling me this evening at 5pm 😬🙏
