Honestly I think 1000 a year in repairs is fairly realistic for a car of this age. You might not need it all every year but some things will be more expensive. It has 280000 km on it. This car got a new engine 6 years ago also.

Didn’t get towbar on model y since there is one on the other car. Can’t justify the 1300 for it although it would be used.

Shared experiences are appreciated but are also open to queries. Would the mad lad have been worse off if he bought the ID.3 in cash? The PCP gave him a way out, an extended try before you buy.

to be fair you wouldnt be too far off an average of 1k a year over 5 years with those two and a few other bits done

Well to be honest the ECU failing was hard luck and rare and the Slave cylinder can happen of course, nothing major really, if that's all that went wrong along with bushing in 10 years and 125,000 miles then that's not bad, throwing in a clutch kit was done while everything was apart.

Still much cheaper either way than new car.

He could have always sold the car or traded it in. PCP just gave him an additional, less hassle, way out.

I think I need to clarify this a bit more.

PCP offered me nothing compared to HP, once half the loan is paid you can opt to return the car under the half rule. PCP doesn't give you anything other than cheap monthly payments with the catch being the balloon.

Trading the car wasn't possible as countless dealers would not take EV as trade in or offered me ridiculous money for it.

Selling it privately is fine once the Finance company approve.

Selling a car in Ireland with outstanding finance is extremely difficult.
