You may have missed the point Haaretz is making.

Hamas launched the attack on the basis of Israel mounting the largest land grab ever announced in the West Bank, the increasing violence, the corrupt PM knobbling the judiciary and an extreme right wing govt in power.

It had been going on for 10 months.

Hamas saw the writing in the wall - Israel were mounting attacks politically, legally and actually on Palestinians with the aim of wiping as many of them out as possible and ethnically cleansing the rest.

Hamas gave Israel the excuse to let loose their campaign of Genocide.

But as a now Pariah Terrorist State on the world stage, perhaps that was were Hamas knew Israel would end up.

Excellent characterisation of what is going on.

Students fulfilling their role to ‘rage against the machine’ whilst ignoring the real problems in that region.

So you agree then that "From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free" is a genocidal mantra? Yes? The same mantra that is universal at Leftist Nuremberg Rallies ehh … "pro Palestine protests"

Because background of that seems to be a fundamental hostility to Israel that takes no regard of its actions or politics, and is solely concerned with the demonisation of Israel and the pursuit of its total destruction - the world's only Jewish state and home of nearly half of the Jewish people.

Do you condemn the phrase "From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free?"

Hmm Israel a pariah terror state, then what do you call Gaza under Hamas a normal democracy with rights for all?

Some people are so out of touch with reality it's actually scary!

Israel is taking land and killing civilians for their own benefit not for anyone else in the West. The rest of the world is against israels continued illegal occupation so to paint them as some how on our side is just wrong.

Illegal occupation of your ancestral homeland? Just pull the other one!

Unfortunately the rest of the world, the EU, UN and ICJ is of that opinion. I think only Israel and you are in support of what they are doing in occupying that land.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭dmcdona

Of the two protagonists, who is actually fulfilling their mantra? Only Israel. And they are the only protagonist with the means to do it.

However, it's very clear that your posts are morally bankrupt and devoid of any humanity. You consistently state that you do not condone murder of innocent civilians yet you consistently defend and justify that murder.

And for you, it appears Ben-Gvir is just a naughty boy. The language used by him and others in the Israeli Govt. really would not be out of place in the 1930s - so it's ironic you mention the Nuremberg Rallies.

But none of this is surprising - I even recall the disrespect shown towards the Irish Soldiers serving in Lebanon. That alone was disgusting.

So, do feel free to continue to defend, justify and support the murder of hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians and the Israeli genocide.

You're dead right - there are quite a few who have swallowed the Hasbara hook, line and sinker.

    The whataboutery won't wash either.

Do you realise that cartoon is using racist caricatures of Arabs and Iranians? (hint: real Arabs and Iranians don't have oversized noses).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,357 ✭✭✭SeanW

Whataboutery is not much of a defence. But it is interesting that a genocidal mantra is OK as long as it is the right one. And that you seem to agree (at least it can be inferred) that Israel should be wiped off the map.

But to be clear, is "From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free" a genocidal mantra?

Oh and I mention the Nuremberg Rallies because it is known that Hitler was a committed anti-Zionist. Here's dear old Adolf pictured with the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem. "From the River to the Sea …" is a term that would be agreed with by both, though "Palestine" as a concept would not be finalised until 1964.

There's only one protagonist committing Genocide. And the leader of that Govt. Is wanted for War Crimes.

Your interest in the phrase "from the river to the sea" simply belies the hypocrisy of ignoring the Likud charter. And as mentioned many times only Isreal has the means to follow through on that charter - and is doing so.

    Terrorist pariah state.

You haven't answered my question, are you OK with - or participating in - calls for the total destruction of Israel? Including the genocidal call "From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free?"

    It is a simple question.

I've been perfectly clear and consistent from day one. Israel has the right to security, safety and peace. As do the Palestinians.

A long time ago, you posted "from the river to the sea" constantly as a justification for Israel to perpetrate its Genocide. You conveniently ignored (and continue to ignore) that Likud had an equal mantra suggesting that all Palestinians will be wiped out.

But Israel is the only one following through by murdering everyone in its way. Including murdering Israelis on Oct 7th.

In your eyes, Israel is doing nothing wrong. Moral bankruptcy. Feel free to continue.

Israel is a terrorist state and a sick and depraved society that celebrates the slaughter of innocents

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,357 ✭✭✭SeanW

There is a difference between criticising Israel's ACTIONS vs. it's EXISTENCE. The Western Left seems to be focused on the latter, likewise the phrase in question that you seem to find so difficult to condemn.

It was your good self who brought that phrase back up in comment: 123386433

Two days ago in a response to your ramblings

"From the river to the sea" (Arabic: من النهر إلى البحر, romanized: min an-nahr ʾilā l-baḥr; Palestinian Arabic: من المية للمية, romanized: min il-ṃayye la-l-ṃayye, lit. 'from the water to the water')[1][2] is a political slogan that refers to the area between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea – an area historically known as Palestine, which was formerly British Mandatory Palestine,[3] and which today contain Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.[4][5] The phrase and its variations have been used both by Palestinian and Israeli politicians to mean that the area should consist of one state.

Feel free to point out all the posts that state that Israel should not exist.

And please do provide links to "The Western Left" demanding that Israel be wiped off the face of the Earth.

I've made my position very clear - I condemn all violence against innocent civilians. I condemn War Crimes and Genocide. I condemn Israel for murdering Palestinians by the hundreds every single day of this conflict. I condemn Hamas and Hezbollah and anyone else that murders innocent Israelis.

You seem to think you have some kind of "gotcha" but really, you don't.

Now, let's see your condemnation of Israel for murder.

    I won't hold my breath.

Typically, posts engaging in discussion would quote a reference. Why would you denigrate a post doing just that? You have posted many references to web sites/pages etc.

Here's a snippet from the quoted site - feel free to denigrate this too:

    Source - Wikipedia

Similar formulations have been used by Zionists and Israelis. Omer Bartov notes the song "The East Bank of the Jordan" by the Revisionist Zionist leader Vladimir Jabotinsky used the formulation shtei gadót le-Yardén: zo shelánu, zo gam kan (שתי גדות לירדן: זו שלנו, זו גם כן, "the Jordan has two banks; this one is ours, and the other one too").

The Likud Party used the formulation ben ha-yam le-Yardén tihyé rak ribonút israelít (בין הים לירדן תהיה רק ריבונות ישראלית, "between the sea and the Jordan there will only be Israeli sovereignty").

Most recently this has been stated by Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu on 18 January 2024.

Pro Israelis brought up "from the river to the sea" a long long time ago as a justification for the Israeli Genocide.

You have brought it up multiple times yourself in order to portray the Palestinians as wanting to wipe out Israel.

Israel is the only protagonist wiping anyone out. You also stated multiple times that if Israel was committing Genocide, they were doing a very poor job of it.

Presumably since Israel has murdered many more and with Ben-Gvir et al pushing the ethnic cleansing agenda, I'd imagine the delight in the improved performance. Murdering 15 medics in one go with some executed by a bullet at point blank range must be a gift.

Ahhh it's all coming together now.

I asked previously why are people supporting ethnic cleansing. It was a genuine question.

Hatred against Muslims? Militant empathy for Jewish history? It's all but confirmed now with that nutjob cartoon thanks, and with this ignorant, misinformed reply.

It is pure unadulterated extremist hatred driving this. The rest is all guff. These people don't care a jot about Jewish history and their plight. This is an antipathy to it. It's supporting killing Muslims out of what -fear?

A genuine characterization of this could be the IDF and Israeli politicians murdering poor marginalized civilian men women and children, with the US behind them holding up guns to the rest of the world, to democracy, to the UN, the ICC, the ICJ- including the many Jews in this world opposing this genocide.

The last I checked, Palestinians are in their own land, and Israel are bombing, starving invading, annexing and terrorising them, men women and children all. And these are the acts these people claim to be against. Logic and common sense thrown out the window for hatred.

Yet you didn't respond to my post when I posted the photo of Bibi holding up the map showing the same lands as Israeli.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54,158 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

It is amazing how this mirrors what the Nazi's did. Many German soldiers said the same '' we were just carrying out orders''. The Israelis learned a lot from the Germans of WW2. So similar.

I would just like to add that most Israeli or Jewish people don't hate Muslims or the religion of Islam.

They just dislike terrorist elements of that religion.

I just want Israel to exist, the hostages to be released and for no more innocent people on either side to be killed.

All of their rallies on the topic of "Palestine" seem to include some call for the destruction of Israel, whether with phrases such as "From the River to the Sea" or "LGBT = Let's Go Bomb Tel-Aviv" or similar.

I've already explained why I consider criticism of the Bibi's position to be simplistic. It may well be fair to ask Israel to withdraw from some or all of the Disputed Territories, but in my opinion this has to take into account Israel's horrifying geography.

Of course it should be noted that Israel and the Disputed Territories amount to something like less than 0.5% of the MENA region and the other 99.5+ would remain with Islamic majority states in any case.

@tayto lover I can't quote your post directly on the phone, but a lot of American and European Jews would consider themselves as Israeli as well.
