Hi last week I had a dining reservation in a local restaurant for 8pm . Unfortunately my mother had to go to A and E and I had to cancel the reservation for 4 which included my mother , with about 6 hours notice . The following day I received a text outlining that I owe 30 euro a head . I made the reservation by phone and it was literally 30 seconds long at no point did they mention a cancellation policy it was just time and amount of people . I'm questioning whether or not to pay it . Do they explicitly have to outline a cancellation policy ? Appreciate feedback .

If you didn't give credit or debit card details tell them you gave enough notice and explain the situation. If that doesn't stop them asking what can they do if they didn't tell you in advance of a cancellation policy and if they have no card details.

Don't expect anything from life, just be grateful to be alive.

So you cancelled around 2pm…. it’s fair to assume the restaurant could fill those 4 seats given notice.

When you cancelled, did you explain the reason?

You weren’t made aware of a cancellation policy , no agreement made. No need to pay.

If it were me, I’d ring, chat to the manager

    -no cancellation policy mentioned

    -reason for cancelling

-apologies & hope to rebook again.

They cant make you pay, goodwill on their part retains a (decent) customer :)

Hope your Mum is doing ok … that’s the main thing.

she is good obviously the main thing thanks for asking .

No didn't explain the reason .

And definitely was not made aware of the cancellation policy, the restaurant also has no online presence that would outline it . And I made the reservation by a phone call .

€30 a head are they bonkers 😂. Ask them for €120 worth of food in exchange.
