Some good old fashioned punk rock from the most famous thing to come out of Scranton since the Dunder Mifflin company bought out Michael Scott paper, The menzingers.

I enjoy a 3 hour gig as much as the next guy, but a solid 80 minutes on a school night is always a smart choice, button factory sound is pretty good as well.

They played what people wanted to hear, we sang, we danced, just a lovely wednesday evening.

Incredibly impressive man Chuck Ragan next week.

On the way home from Ocean Colour Scene on night one, of their two night stint in the Olympia. The crowd were into it, and I thought the band sounded good, if very workmanlike.

Moin played to a surprisingly large crowd in Whelans tonight. Drummer, 2 guitars (1 on occasional bass) and a knob twiddler gave us a 1 hour set that touched on psych, post-rock, electronica, krautrock, shoegaze and dub. Not as good as that description suggests but decent nonetheless. The first three and last two songs were the highlights for me. I got nicely in the zone on those. On the flipside, I found the post-rock material to be the least interesting parts. The guitars could've kicked a bit harder but it was mostly satisfying. They received a very enthusiastic response from the crowd at the end. I probably would have enjoyed it more if i wasn't so tired and my feet weren't killing me!

    I'm a Rock n Roll Amputation

Great night in The Sound House with a triple bill for €10.00

Saw Uragh again and they’re still as tight and brilliant as before.

First time seeing Hero in Error. They were nearly as good. Loved the fact that their composer is also the new guitarist in The Scratch - Gary Regan.

Anyone else at Nerves in Whelan’s?

That was pretty special. Great sound, loads of interesting bits. Loved it!

Not exactly a ' gig ' but maybe ..Andrea Bocelli at 3 Arena . A Christmas present from the family ! 😁

Very enjoyable , looked like he was enjoying it at the end too !

    Many standing ovations .

Full Italian symphony orchestra , full choir from Dublin Dun Laoghaire no less !

Couple of ballet dancers and two beautiful ladies singing with him and a star flautist and violinist . Very polished .

Not my scene really but it was a good experience and loved the beautiful music and his singing .

3 Arena closed the bar except for an intermission of 20 mins , which is only time for most wimmin to get to the ladies and back , but it was better than people traipsing in and out during the show which was fully seated and packed .

I hope they do the same for the second David Gray concert which is this Friday . He was not happy with " the biggest pub in Dublin" at the last one earlier in the month .

Help keep Boards going , subscribe or donate if you can.

Flaming lips tonight in the Olympia.

Wow, just a bombardment on the eyes, ears and heart.

There are not many bands out there who do what they do, and when you're in a crowd of fellow lips travellers, it's special.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 984 ✭✭✭Homesick Alien

Yeah it was sensory overload at times, great craic. They took an arena size stage set up and crammed it into the Olympia. In terms of lights, screens, lasers (and props!) it was the biggest production of seen in the Olympia.

Flaming Lips were amazing last night. Musically brilliant, Yoshimi in full was an absolute delight, then an additional greatest hits set. But as others have said, there was something for all the senses!

So glad I did - absolutely phenomenal on every level and lovely to

A few events from my Trip to Las Vegas for WrestleMania week

The Sphere Experience 'Postcards From Earth'- to quote Father Ted 'Well that film was a pile of crap but special effects very much appreciated'. It was a great experience, such an amazing venue. I'd say the concerts there are amazing. Can only imagine how cool a TOOL show would be in the venue.

    20250417_103504.jpg 20250417_114007.jpg 20250417_115331.jpg 20250417_120340.jpg

Carrot Top Luxor Hotel- wanted to do something 'Vegas Entertainment' and choose this. Wished I'd had choose a magic show instead. Just didn't find it anyway funny with a few 'American' jokes that I wouldn't know much about. Amazing he's been doing that show there for 40 years

    20250417_194946.jpg 20250417_202543.jpg 20250417_203338.jpg

American Pie EMO Takeover night The Space- Found this gig by accident and it was pretty good. Never heard of 'Emo Kids' and the 'Thomas Nicholas Band' but great to hear Jared from Bowling For Soup for a brief period singing most of the 'hits'. His appearance changed but his voice is still in great nick. $35 was a bargain

WWE World Las Vegas Convention Centre- A Wrestling nerds paradise. Full of memorabilia, exhibits and superstar Apperernces

WWE SD/Raw T Mobile Arena- visited twice for TV Tapings and it's a great venue with a lot of food & drink options. You could see it's a 'sports Arena' with so many food & drink options. Not the cheapest mind you. Shows were pretty good, as was the venue

    20250418_160427.jpg 20250418_194830.jpg 20250421_184722.jpg

WWE Hall of Fame BleauLive Theater - Fabulous theatre located in the new state of the art Fontainebleau Hotel . Kind of wished they just stayed in the Arena like previous years. Dragged on a bit esp Triple H going on for a about an hour but was cool seeing a different side of wrestling

Wrestlemania 41 Allegiant Stadium- this was a huge thing for my wrestling fandom and a massive event off the bucket list. Allegiant Stadium was great (if not a little bit away from the strip and walking can be dangerous). The Rock not appearing took the shine off it a bit for me but screw it. It's **** 'Wrestlemania' and it lived up to the occasion. Big matches, big entrances, big moments. I'd definitely recommend it to any Wrestling fan. It's not just about the event itself, it takes over the city for the full week

And that is Travis Scott who's 'Fein' I'm sick of hearing

The Courettes were good fun in the Grand Social tonight. Garage meets 60s Girlgroup pop from a sharp two-piece combo. Some of the songs were a bit lightweight for me but when they fuzzed things up and got down & dirty things were immeasurably better. Not a large crowd in attendance, i definitely expected a few more there. The band gave it their all anyway. Don't think they were too appreciative of the drunk woman who fell onto the stage at the end trying to get a selfie though. The next few nights sees them in Cork, Kilkenny and Belfast. Worth a punt if you're in the area.

    David Gray

    King John’s Castle Limerick

Excellent - For a show that I did not even want to go too was probably one of the best gigs I have seen without having to pay for travel & overpriced hotel accomadation….

    I concur.

Really great fun and their sound is right down my alley, all kinds of 60s influenced rock.

Very disappointing size of audience, I'd say maybe around 70 people? And yeah, Dreamweapon, that woman in the end trying to get a selfie was awkward, you could see Flavia tensing a bit.

A lot of nice merchandise - I opted for 2 vinyls and a cassette.

Support by Stefan Murphy (of The Mighty Stef and Count Vaseline fame), just him with his guitar.

Upcoming gigs and events: The Pillowman, Rhiannon Giddens, New Purple Celebration, Foil Arms and Hog, Nova Twins, Tanita Tikaram, David Byrne

Rival schools played a great set in Whelan's last night. Crowd were loving it. He is still a cracking singer. From Whelan's to the Royal Albert Hall supporting Hundred Reasons next week for them! Slightly different world!

My TM app crashed, I couldn’t get in.

Good local rap session at Lost Lane tonight - guess where headliners were from - Demlot. 😂😎

Loads of guest spots, what a community. Big up to support Bernard-M and the two class DJs, one of whom should know better and get a proper job. 🤘

Viagra Boys in the Olympia were decent. Gig flew by and I don't know any of their songs. I had doubts whether the sax solos were live but it added a Nik Turner Hawkwind element. Good fun though, crowd was well up for it even under the dreaded standing area beneath the seating tier.

VBs were great. Bass player is a machine.

Stray bits of confetti still in play at the Olympia.

Another one at Viagra Boys last night. Excellent - totally loved it. 3rd time seeing them and they've gotten better each time (Grand Social 2019, The Academy 2022). Sound was very good were I was (standing at the back to the right) and they've spent a few quid on their light show. New tunes worked well with the old thumpers.

I haven't been able to sign in on the app for the last few days either. Could you not have deleted the app and used the website?

You're better off buying Whelans tickets from their online box office. Save yourself a couple of quid on fees that way.
