    Imagine if Spurs actually won...............

(Which would be a shock normally anyway)

I don't know how many would accept but I'd love to see the class of 2020 involved in the celebrations.

Bobby, Naby, Gigi, Henderson and Milner never got their flowers in front of a crowd, would be lovely to see.

Hard to see Hendo being welcomed back for that with open arms. Not that he wouldn't deserve it, but the manner in which he left might make that unrealistic.

I feel sorry for him that he didn't get to lift the trophy in front of fans though, and I'm absolutely in favour of all of those lads getting involved if they were asked.

The one man I'd really love to see involved in the celebrations is Sean Cox, think that'd be a lovely gesture from the club.

Would be happy enough to sell Konate if he’s not signing a new contract and I hope we go all out for Huijsen.

For £50 million he could be the signing of the summer.

He might not be popular with the Dutch players

I wanted it to be over Wednesday, but that was a little selfish. I understand now, even with the title won already, that it is better to win in on the field yourselves in front of your fans. We were robbed of this in 2020 so getting a chance to do it Sunday is the best even if it not what I wanted initially.

We should beat Tottenham handily, they will be focused on the Europa League and we have been trending upwards with our own play recently. So perform on the day and the fan in the stadium will have a great day!

I think I need to go to specsavers. I glanced and could have sworn I saw Michael Oliver at first.

My only problem with all this hype about Sunday is that I remember for the first leg of the semi-final against them everyone was saying Spurs were so bad we would beat them 4 or 5 nil and they suckered us 1-0.

Factors for that being the guy who scored the goal should have been sent off and we only had ten men on the pitch when they scored so the game should have ended 0-0.

It's absolutely set up for a Spurs win. Nobody's giving them a hope of a victory, manager is about to get sacked, they're nowhere in the league, we're nearly impossible to beat at home, they have a much bigger game midweek to prepare for, them winning helps Arsenal, they have 4pts from last 7 games losing 4 of the last 5, we just need a draw, bookies giving them 10/1 odds...

    Basically guaranteed

Why would players that are contracted to other clubs come back to celebrate a season they had no part in?

Forget about the last time round, that’s done. Would we be impressed if any of our players went to celebrate their previous clubs lifting a title, while still being contracted to us? I don’t think I would.

Firmino and Fabinho both came back in Jan 2024 to watch the game against Newcastle as supporters.

While he's retired Thiago attended the Forest game last September as a supporter.

It's not confirmed yet if Klopp will be at Anfield for the last game but he will be in Liverpool that week for the LFC foundation gala dinner and has been given an invitation by Slot to attend the game.

I think at least for the team that won the league in 2020, the majority of them did at least experience what it was like to celebrate with the CL in front of the fans but the PL would have been a bit more special.

On a work call atm and my brain is wandering at warp speed.....

Where do people think we would have finished in the League this season with -

    1. Klopp
    2. Xabi Alonso
    3. Amorim

    long read about replacing Salah.

    https://open.substack.com/pub/deadballanalytics/p/finding-the-next-mohamed-salah-with?r=twfse&utm_medium=ios

Few names in there that weren’t the usual.

    Dilane Bakwa (DoppelScore = 61.58)
Dilane Bakwa, the 22-year-old rising star in Ligue 1, has quickly become one of the league’s most exciting talents. After graduating through Bordeaux’s youth academy and turning professional in 2019, he proved himself as a key player for Strasbourg and represented France at various youth levels. He’s a dynamic attacker who combines speed, skill, and creativity to trouble defenses. His ability to accelerate past opponents and deliver pinpoint crosses makes him a constant threat.

This season, he ranks 3rd in Ligue 1 for assists (8), 9th for key passes (49), and 7th for crosses (111), proving his consistency and impact in the final third. His standout performances, including a remarkable performance against Lyon, have caught top clubs' attention. Eintracht Frankfurt monitor his progress, while his connection to Strasbourg’s BlueCo project (linked to Chelsea) opens up exciting possibilities. With Champions League football on the horizon, Bakwa’s future is bright. Could a move to a top club like Liverpool be next? Time will tell.

    Maghnes Akliouche (DoppelScore = 63.51)
Maghnes Akliouche is emerging as one of Ligue 1’s most promising attacking midfielders, well known for his silky left foot and exceptional creativity. He is a key part of Monaco's attack, contributing 6 goals and 10 assists this season, along with outstanding performances in the Champions League. Ranked 5th in goal-creating actions per 90 minutes (0.77) and 3rd in total goal-creating actions (16) in Ligue 1, Akliouche's influence is evident.

A spectacular overhead kick against Rennes on January 25, 2025, described as "Puskas-worthy," has only amplified his reputation. However, his talent is far beyond that. As a Monaco player under contract until 2028, Akliouche is drawing attention from top European clubs, marking him as a rising star to watch. One of the strongest Doppel's of Salah on our list.

Cherki, Wirtz, Alvarez, Leao are a few of the others

Xabi would have been a great addition but not sure his fitness would keep Grav or Szoboszlai out. Amorim wouldnt even make the bench

I think it is a little unfair on Amorim if people think he would have had us relegated or bottom 5. Our squad is better than United's so think we would have finished maybe 8th or so with him and the transition to his style with players that does not suit it. United just isn't very good and add in a new style is a recipe for disaster.

Cherki was the one we showed interest in last summer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,136 ✭✭✭steve_r

Ah yeah I was being glib rather than serious.

I genuinely think Klopp would have won the title this year with the City fall off.

Not sure what Alonso would have been like as a manager. Might not have gotten the performances out of Grav but potentially could have gotten more out of some of the others.

I honesty feel it's hard to know how Amorims tactics would have worked

Free transfers are more expensive these days for top players. Lots of quality available on a free this summer, but free they are not .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,205 ✭✭✭Damien360

Very unfair on Amorin is correct. I think he is trying to implement a semi-klopp high intensity plus wing back system and they don't have the personal for this. We would have been quite well suited to his style if he came to Liverpool. They need gutting to implement that style.

In my opinion, Utd are exactly where Liverpool was when Klopp arrived, a broken, dis-spirited side and a fed up fan base not that long after a bad owner left (in my mind wasn't that long). Whether Amorin has the personality or the luck to get them out of that is another thing and whether the Utd fan base has the patience to stick with him will determine any future.

Will be interesting to see how he does in the coming years. He seems to have a lot of talent and his goals/assists seem impressive. The rumours about his attitude are hopefully just that or he has grown up a bit. I think the transfer fee might be quite reasonable. It’s definitely a risk though.

I know there'd be the same AFCON concerns but I'd be all over Bryan Mbeumo as our Salah protege. Fantastic player, really don't want him going to a rival.

I think he'd suit Arsenal down to the ground

I think we'll be staying local and shopping in Bournemouth and Eredivisie

United are in far worse shape.

Liverpool had a functioning backend footballing department(at the time it was derided as the dreaded transfer committee but it was 100% the right approach) and a team with some really good players like Firmino and Countinho already there, with Klopp being able to imprint his style of play pretty much immediately. Liverpool finished 8th but there was constant improvement in the years that followed.

United on the other hand have no backend organisation to speak of. They’ve spent years going after managers and just buying their targets resulting in a mishmash of players not used to any particular style of play. They’ve also massively overspent to the point where they ran out of money.

When they did look to get their act together with a sporting director he was gone a couple of months later after disagreeing with Ratcliffe, to the cost of millions. Now they have a young manager who did well in Portugal with a very specific style being asked to replicate that with players who have never played it, and they’re on course for their worst ever PL season, lower than Liverpool have ever finished.

Klopp was a rockstar manager but the whole organisation was responsible for bringing them from where they were to title contenders. It was years of almost flawless decision making with bringing players in, selling players for good prices, bringing youth players through.

Amorim might well be a great manager but he has a much bigger job than Klopp did and doesn’t have the level of talent in the background to help him succeed.

Some light reading. I never liked him as a manager and wrongly associated him with our downfall many years ago but this interview is worth a read. I can picture him saying exactly every word of it.

Would he not step on Saka's toes at Arsenal though? Plays nigh on exactly the same position, and seems too good/expensive to be a backup.
