Engine revving when coaxing down hill

Hi all, I know there is already a seperate engine revving thread but this is slightly different consequence. I have an audi A7 automatic, notice that the engine slowly revs up when coaxing downhill, it could go up to 2.5 or 3k revs if i let it which isnt massive in the grand scheme of things but just wondered is it because…

Yes. It's using the transmission and engine to help slow the car.
If you were in a manual car you would change down.
