very odd. reporting all week about an incident with no mention of what the incident entailed.

Irish media seem to take this approach when the story would reflect negatively on a minority group e.g. itinerants.

From what I heard on Pat Kenny show today, reading between the lines, there was a group that wanted to change the way things were done, more hard core, trying to impose their way on others and to get involved in the school.

I've been out there many times, dropping Muslim students to prayer on Fridays, very friendly happy air about the place, think this other group don't like this moderate approach.

High percentage of those who attend are professional, well to do, well settled or students visiting for 6 months.

Some are dismissing this, saying it is a financial irregularities or something of the like.

Personally I think if it was something financial I doubt it would close the place or would be it be classed as "deeply troubling".

If this is hardliners sponsored by hardline regimes trying to establish Sharia courts etc in Ireland then the existing moderates need to be helped and supported.

If violence becomes the currency among the Muslim community the moderates will be pushed out and will be afraid to speak of the virtues of harmonious integration with local communities. I think there is a way for Islam to be part of Irish society but the biggest threat is it's fundamentalist/sharia hardliners.

In the UK there are sub-cultures holding sharia courts over and above the actual legal system. It's horrific and can't be allowed to take root here, especially given the increasing Muslim population and impressionable youths.

The far right will be going bananas blaming the government for not revealing details and the government will avoid the issue in order to not set them alight.

Society really needs to be able to speak openly about Islam and protecting the space held by good, moderate Muslims is critical. They need to feel safe and free to publicly denounce Fundamentalist Islam.

I think a hard line should be taken with hardliners, deportations etc while supporting moderates.

Yes. Based on nothing because there isn't much out there. The silence around it seems a bit sinister and there was also some notes of 'the direction being taken'

Unless clarification provided my bets would be some sort of power grab attempt by malign forces on the basis that it's happening the world over and why not here.
