was he saying bad things about trump and upsetting you ?

His perspective and views are exactly what you’d expect of a rich, white, uber-liberal Democrat in that it’s very much out of touch with anything other than his own circle who all share the same beliefs and essentially live in their own bubble and echo chamber. They still can’t believe they lost the last election and refuse to actually ask themselves why - instead blaming everything on racism, ignorance, and the nasty orange man. I’m not a Trump supporter btw! I hate I have to point that out but it seems now if you say anything negative about anyone on one side it’s assumed you’re pro the other.

Lucas works in the Clinton Institute in UCD. An academic he may be, but he is not an impartial observer. I haven’t watched the interview with Tubridy as God love him Ryan thought Biden served 2 terms as President so I don’t think he can call himself an expert on US Politics either despite his claims - he’s much more suited to lighter, fluffier stuff.

Just because a person doesn’t like Trump (or conversely in this case Lucas), doesn’t make the other side immune from criticism.

I don’t like Trump. I also have very little time for Scott Lucas.

Both things can be true. It’s not black and white.

    He's a typical American.

Marion Mckeown thinks she's Barack Obama. I don't think at one stage did she mention how old Biden was to be a president. She's just an Irish person that happens to live in America who would clearly take a bullet for the Democratic Party. Funny enough I don't think Pat Kenny ever uses her.

Larry Donnelly and Niall Stanage usually give better accounts of what's happening.

Stanage is excellent. I hadn’t heard of him before Dunphy started using him about 18-24 months ago in the build up to the US election. He’s popped up in lots of places since and long may it continue. He was particularly good at pointing out the shortcomings of both sides in the election, something you didn’t get on the more partisan stations - incl./esp. over here.

Donnelly isn’t bad, not a patch on Stanage but not really a fair comparison as journalism isn’t Donnelly’s main job.

Now that you mention it I don’t think I’ve ever heard McKeown on with anyone on Newstalk, let alone Kenny? I know Newstalk and TodayFM are under the same umbrella but can’t recall ever hearing her on Newstalk.

I thought she was a democratic spokesperson there to balance against the American usually on.

Is she supposed to be an impartial journalist?

Really impossible to find impartial voices discussing certainly American politics so I find the pieces fairly predictable with little new information given .

The internet suggests that she made one solitary appearance back in July 2023. Gavan Reilly.

"Marion McKeone, US Correspondent with the Business Post joins Gavan to explain why actors and writers are now on strike together."

Jesus these discussions on AI in education drive me nuts. When Pat challenges Helen McEntee on students (mis)using AI, she twice just says "AI is here to stay" - wtf does that mean? She has no strategy to deal with this is what it means.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,244 ✭✭✭mykrodot

She is appalling. She was the same as Minister for Justice. She listens to nobody, no dissent is allowed, she is like a robot! All monotonous droning words. I think the A1 thing is extremely worrying and needs full and open debate from all parents and teachers.

To be honest I think AI will cause brain atrophy and is the end of human intelligence, studies will be done on this in the future but thankfully I will be dead by then.

she says teachers are all coming back from Australia to teach here in Ireland, because she spoke to them all recently in Australia! What a silly silly comment! How many did she speak to? Has she got figures to back this up? Where are all these happy young suntanned teachers going to live when they come back to Ireland?

That text from the person working in further education hit the nail on the head - assessments are becoming a bit of a joke with all the misuse of AI and (most crucially) the indifference/lack of strategy from those running those institutions.

    Saw this on Blue sky.

Was talking to some friends, one of whom recently hired someone who when it came down to it was clueless. Turns out they'd used AI, very convincingly for the technical parts of their interviews.

I was thinking if I was setting exams or indeed interviews, I would drop in some anti-AI questions.

Someone in work asked Chat GPT what Liverpool's chances of winning the premier league was this season. 75% they came back with.

After being reminded that Liverpool are 13 points clear with 15 left to play for, they said "oh yeah it's more like 99%"

This was a simple prompt with no subtle trickery involved.

I’d rather have AI running education than McEntee tbh, at least AI wouldn’t accuse you of sexism or misogyny if you asked it a question, and actually give you an answer.

At least Dublin City centre is safe now thanks to her I guess….. 🙄🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,012 ✭✭✭✭LambshankRedemption

Actually, that's it right there. Why would AI be better at running education than Helen McEntee? Because at least AI will give you a straight answer.

I used to listen to Pat’s morning show when he was on Rte. Followed him over to Newstalk as he’ is, by far, in my opinion, the best presenter in Ireland. Whether it’s the move or age, he definitely gives more snippets about his personal life (wife, daughter etc.) He also expresses his personal opinions more. He is obsessed with Trump. I loved today’s little dig … when chatting about attendees at the pope’s funeral he mentioned “The President of Argentina who is something of a despot himself.” :)

I am 14 months now trying to find a GP, and 7 months waiting for a consultation with an ENT consultant. To "help" solve my problems, Jennifer Carrol McNeil wants to add money to peoples shopping bill.

I am taking this proposal as her unofficial resignation from politics, because it's going to achieve nothing and be unpopular with at least 70% of the voting population.

A quick google tells me that alcohol related illnesses cost the exchequer anywhere from €500 million to €1.5 billion per annum. If an increase in excise causes some people to drink less or brings in more money, I don't see the problem.

Except for problem drinkers an increase in price does not work.

All it does is take food out of the mouths of children.

And actually, this measure is not an increase in excise. No additional monies would be going to the government. It would achieve less than nothing.
