I was making the point that the tariffs will impact their ability to import the resources required to fabricate in the US and their ability to bring in chips made by Taiwan.

Pete Hegseth has told the Pentagon to kit out a room near the press briefing room to be a make-up studio.

The same lad who tried to deflect from his sharing of classified information by saying that he was returning the fighting warrior mentality to the DoD apparently thinks these warriors must look a certain way when talking about it.

The White House also released a statement supporting Hegseth in the communications disaster where they said Hegseth was working alone against the entirety of the Pentagon who were resisting his ideas. I'd say that'll go down well within the DoD and have people rushing forward to support Pete and to make sure he looks like the fearless warrior he is. They're just delaying the inevitable with this guy, I can't see him surviving in such an environment where he and his boss look to alienate the workforce at the Pentagon just to save this guys skin.

Separately, I wonder how DOGE feels about government money going in to a make up room for Pete at a time when they're spouting on about waste in government spending. I suppose the DoD have to spend that 260B extra their getting this year somewhere.

"I also saw a clip from a China spokesperson saying they wouldn't be changing their strategy based on comments from Trump"

A situation where Trump reduces significantly from the current 145% tariffs on China because the stock market spooks him and China respond by....doing nothing and keeping the current 125% tariff on US goods would be objectively hilarious

The White House also released a statement supporting Hegseth in the communications disaster

Wonder is this the same type of support that Premier club owners give to their struggling managers?

Possibly. NPR reported at the weekend that they were already looking for a replacement.

Thing is though, if they had decided to remove him, you'd think they'd just shut up and not give people a stick to beat them with or do anything to make them look indecisive.

But, strategy on these matters is clearly not their strong suit.

He wants to suspend tariffs on car parts apparently. It really is a crap show.

    a) There's so many sticks to beat them with, one more hardly matters

    b) Trump probably, at least partially, doesn't want to fire Hegseth as it will reflect badly on his choice to appoint him in the first place.

    😁

Slow Steaming is what used to be done when there was surplus capacity.

So if there's only 80% of normal shipments then ships go at 80% of normal speed. This saves a lot of fuel (20% drop means 40% fuel saved) and means there's no idle ships so no need to scrap them and when business picks up they can go back to normal speed.

Last round Maersk reckoned it would hurt them but it their competitors more. It's not zero sum all the shipping companies loose.

It also slows down the supply chain since it takes longer for stuff to arrive.

According to CNN a megadonor to the GOP is upset with Trump over his actions. The name of the megadonor was not included in the printed line outlining the upset below the names of three major US Co's which were mentioned in the main news picture criticizing the tariffs over the damage they are doing to the US economy. Read that to mean the future income and health of the Co's concerned for starters.

It's kind of obvious now that all Trump has left in his armoury are lies, damned lies and more lies.

I read that Volvo are firing 800 people across three sites in America due to market uncertainty and the impact of tariffs.

I hope all those 800 people are Trump voters.

The only reason I can see of why a POTUS is capulating to a Russian president is the Vlad has serious dirt on him . Enough that the civil service agree to it . Trump is the best agent the KGB Haversian had

It just doesn't make sense why he'd actually against Americas own interests. Either a Russian asset or an American Oligarch asset.

Meanwhile in DPR, penguins victory over Trump is in full swing

In a normal world, quite a lot of what he's done could/should land him in prison for national security violations.

China sure looked pretty and very vibrant on Race around the world on BBC last night. Maybe that is where our future trading partner is!

Because Putin wants to damage America as much as he can? He doesn't need to attack them militarily or by cyber attacks when hes got his agent doing the damage. No doubt most of the useful documents from Trumps bathroom ended up in the Kremlin.

Donald Trump - A disgraceful President to be throwing Ukraine to the wolves (ie Putin)

Nine people killed there this morning , 70 wounded in a Russian attack.

Shame on you Donald Trump !!

You'll be dead for a long long time and history will not be kind to you !!

It's worth remembering that Ukraine already agreed a ceasefire plan with the US who were going to then take it to Russia, and now the US (or Trump) are coming back with another plan as if no agreement was ever made there.

Trump has kept in mind one lesson he learned from Putin, the seizure by force of arms of other countries territory as being legitimate. Strike out Crimea, input Canada and Greenland - dictatorship rocks, especially when one uses the "it's in the interests of national security" excuse as part of one's official presidential duties.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,139 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

I'm guessing the 'peace plan' is already dead in the water. No way will the Putin-Trump strategy be remotely palatable to either Ukraine or the EU.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,701 ✭✭✭Lewis_Benson

There is no peace plan, trump isnt interested in peace.

He's only interested in him and his friends becoming richer.

He has no interest in being a president.

He only cares about him and his friends becoming richer.

He has no interest in helping America or the American people.

He only cares about him and his friends becoming richer.

And it use the word "friends" quite loosely there, trump doesn't have any real friends.
