I don't think anyone argues that Charcoal is better tasting than gas. But in Ireland. Charcoal BBQs don't get near the use that gas do and they often end up as rusting piles on the ground.

We don't love BBQ enough in Ireland(Or have the weather) to consistently use and long term take care of charcoal ones. They are also not near as convenient to clean and fire up.

Some people do and kudos to them but from my experience with Irish Homes and BBQs, a good gas one that you take a bit of pride in always looks a more solid investment that a charcoal one.

Yeah I'm not debating the difference in ease of use and cleanliness of the gas, just the taste difference, but I see from a bit of online research (which I should probably have did beforehand) I can easily buy smoker boxes, and wood pellets which I'll definitely be looking into.

Also, the ease of adjusting the temperature on the gas was an absolute eye opener to me , my old weber kettle was an absolute starter model, didn't even have a thermometer on it, but in saying that I managed to get some lovely bits of meat from that at times. Pork loins in particular over indirect were always top notch of it. I'll have a nosey on Amazon for a little smoker box and have a play around, still more than happy with my purchase.

Good luck with the smoker box and do let us know how you get on - my own experience of “homemade” smoker box is mixed - most of the smoke exits the BBQ without touching the meat😀.

Also, for those new to the Weber 310, do please look at the manual for recommended settings when cooking - for things like chicken wings it’s a combination of low and medium only heat- absolutely not high heat - this will just burn the wings and they’ll stick to the grate - really the only time you’ll need full gas on high is steak -

A friend bought one and has exact same issue - it’s a known issue from what I can see online - clearing the gas from the BBQ (disconnecting from gas tank once BBQ is off, opening all 3 leavers to drain remaining gas with lid off and waiting about 10 minutes- then reconnect to gas tank and slowly turn regulator lever on gas tank to on position ensuring the bbq dials themselves are set to off- allow some time - maybe 30 seconds, for pressure to build- this is to potentially reset the safety device in the dials themselves - then turn on and ignite the dials one at a time with lid open - some more guidance here - it doesn’t call out the spluttering per se, but it does mention a reduced flow if the sensor detects an issue

    • there’s also an air/gas regulator at the back of the dials themselves- there’s some online videos on how to adjust these - I’m wondering if this is the issue but again from online they only partially resolved the problem - do post back here with updates

Thanks Oscar thats much the same stuff that I came across myself.

Have sent the query to Weber gonna sit tight to see what they say before I go at anything, I had an issue with the Q2000 when I bought it also and they sent a new part no questions asked

Looks like the deal is sold out in Woodies, any other places offering the same deal?

Ah brilliant - I’ll mention same to friend - do please update us all on outcome - they’ll likely try and blame gas canister as the first step - friends canister is old and wasn’t used in about a year - 11kg not the smaller 3kg one that clips onto the BBQ- I wonder if that makes a difference?
But considering there’s a few videos and Reddit threads ( but not a huge amount it must be said) it might be simply a very small defective incidence

Was over with friend this evening- here’s something you could try.

Switch on gas 1 on full (one furthest left) with the lid up obviously- then turn quickly on to minimum - there’s a very good chance it will go out completely and not reignite (obviously switch off dial at this point 😀 )- we had the grate taken out along with the flavourisers so we could see clearly - and obviously the lid up.

There’s also a bit of a squealing noise (best I can describe it) - I think it’s burner 1 is the issue - hope this helps as it might be easier to describe to Weber

Just to add, this Reddit thread is pretty much what the issue is and what my friend is experiencing - he (the person in the video) got a Weber engineer out - I’m not sure such a thing can happen in Ireland? The engineer adjusted the air intake valve - I’ve read elsewhere that this didn’t fully address the issue- however maybe the Weber engineer knew what he was doing and they didn’t - very strange nevertheless for Weber product

Thanks Oscar, all quite on the Weber frontmy air intakes seem to be open a good bit more than the link on the reddit.

Just went out and ran the BBQ for 5 minutes there and did not misfire once.

Gonna do a cook tomorrow night to see how it goes for a extended period of time.

All of his air vents were set the exact same - we didn’t go near them as don’t know what additional mess we’d make of it - he’s awaiting response also - 3-5 days is what they say - just be careful if only using the left ring - probably better to have two on at any one time to reduce risk of completely blowing out

I haven't had a chance to turn mine on yet and won't get to until the weekend.

Are others on the thread having this issue with the burner?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 188 ✭✭Dave_D_Rave

Hey Oscar, Gave Weber a nudge on the email last night and they came back just there to say theat they are sending out a replacement burner kit via courier.

Check the BBQ this morning and there was a misfire again so really hoping this kit puts the issue to bed.

Great service from Weber no quibbs from them offered a replacement part straight off the batt.

Ah that’s super news- just how difficult will it be I wonder to fit that ? I’m sure you’ve had the pain of assembly - whilst only a few hours, I was hoping I wouldn’t have to revisit that again with friend

two posters so far -it’s definately a known issue as a few threads in Reddit and elsewhere about it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 188 ✭✭Dave_D_Rave

Ya I'll have to wait and see what components are actually supplied by Weber does the burner kit include for the indivdual regulators ect or is it just the burner tubes and how many 1 or 3.

Will take a bit of time no doubt, but at least the hardware is free issued as such.

@Oscar_Madison Yes my package arrived yesterday which consists of all 3 burner tubes and common rail.

Install looks to be simple enough has fairly decent instructions with it just to get the time at the weekend.

Only other thing it can be id say is the control valve, so presuming Weber have the inside track on this and know that it is the tubes and not the control valve itself.

Great Dave- hope installation goes well - I think Weber mentioned in their communications that it was an airflow issue but can’t be certain of that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 188 ✭✭Dave_D_Rave

Ya just did it there about a 15 min job.

They supplied 3 burners complete pack I only swapped burner one ran for 5 minutes seems to be all good now

Friend waiting on delivery of theirs- yes we reckon burner 1 is the problem - handy to have some spares but these last a long time anyway - happy bbq’ing

Just set mine up the weekend and had first bbq yesterday and I have a miss fire on the burner, I thought it was just the wind first but reading here it seems to be a common issue.

I bought a Weber E-310 from a garden store in Dublin just under a year ago. Between the jigs and the reels I never got around to setting it up until recently and only used it for the first time the other night.

I must use it again this week, is the issue that the burner to the left (1st burn) blows out ?

    Thanks

Don't want to take the thread off topic, but we were discussing smoker boxes on the thread a while back.

Just a heads up, Aldi have smoker boxes in store at the minute, I picked one up yesterday for I think €5.99 so I will keep an eye out now for some chips to put in it and let you know how it goes.

Not for us - tried the “easy way” out and just replaced burner 1- issue is still there- so I’ll have to open it up again another day (friend is not good with this sort of thing) and do the whole shooting match - a pain but I suppose serves me right for taking the shortcut

Yes and also - the burners sort of back fire the whole time - I think burner 1 goes out momentarily and is then lit again by burner 2 - so there’s this contestant reigniting sound - a pop- but it doesn’t inspire confidence at all - in addition start to turn the burners down low and they’ll really make a racket and just have burner 1 on low and yes it will go out

Also excellent for gas BBQs. Couple of bits of charcoal in it, wood or whatever. Close the gas BBQ lid and get your smoke on.

Ended up swapping out all burners over the weekend noticed there was a slight backfire now on the common rail (horizontal section that connects all 3 burners).

Must do an extended cook to confirm its OK once and for all.

Id suggest replace the whole burner kit as per Weber and take videos that you can send to Weber. I think the only thing it can be after that is the control valve.

While you have the assembly in pieces it would be worth swapping the control valves

You could swap control valve 1 & 2 if the problem moves to Burner 2 then that is your answer.

hmmm - I’d be shaky on doing that - but the backfire on the common rail happens currently -but I THINK it’s caused by burner 1 going out - must take a new video close to darkness just to see what’s happening

Really if this doesn’t work (when I replace all 3 burners) out we’ll be looking for money back - wasted too much time - no wonder this was discounted
