I filled in the 9 month one yesterday. Haven't heard anything back yet so hoping it gets applied.

Went with the 9 month deal also last month, bit miffed a 12 month came out soon after. Ours got applied without them sending anything out to us, just got the next bill at a lower rate. Which is a bit weird, and they did up the broadband from 250 to 500 so slightly more expensive than the previous 50% deal. (I'm guessing they were haemorrhaging subscribers and just been looking for quick renewals)

I've emailed them to query the broadband increase and also to chance my arm if they'll extend the 9 months to 12months. Will see what they come back with

Same here. Let's see… I was 30 minutes on the phone waiting for an agent and I was fed up of waiting that I did it straight away. The confirmation was on the browser but not sms or so. Let's wait and see what happen next, otherwise I will send my notice. Have you received any additional information?

No nothing yet. I've just checked my account online and it's showing as full price still (€70 per month for 500MB). I think my next bill is in a week or so so I'll keep an eye and get onto them if needs be- I took a screenshot of the confirmation.

Hi just a update I signed up last month for the 9 months half price and I just checked my bill for this month the 15th and they applied it I didn't receive any emails confirming it but it's applied to the account now. So thanks very much to the original poster

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 368 ✭✭frankled

It seems that the 12 month offer hasn't been applied to my account- not yet anyway, my bill has just issued at full price.

Does anybody have any good experience emailing them or do I have to suck it up and ring them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 69 ✭✭Duit

Thanks for letting me know. I just called them and cancel. The customer support was pretty insisting to keep me and offer 6 months 50% that I rejected. I have to tell him several times I wanted to cancel… Let's see if they call me with a better offer otherwise I will be signing as new customer. I hate the yearly moaning with these folks….

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 368 ✭✭frankled

To provide an update. I rang them (1908 - accounts option) and long story short, whilst it showed that I had put in for the 12 month offer, the case had been closed with no further action- the offer I think is only for accounts looking to cancel.

I was a little creative with the truth on how I got the link, as I hadn't been sent the SMS directly, this flummoxed them, but I insisted I got it. After repeating that I'd gotten confirmation of the offer being applied within 72 hours etc., they relented, escalated, and I now have it.

So if you have put in for an offer, it might be worth a call- just don't mention this boards.ie resource we have going!

So thanks a million for this @tb66 - I owe you a metaphorical pint!

the only bad as new customer is the 30 fee for the 35E option

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 69 ✭✭Duit

I know but It will be cheaper than keeping the current contract

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 761 ✭✭✭you2008

I know, called best is 9 months half, canceled and will fill the form and see :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 69 ✭✭Duit

Let me know if they confirm it. I will wait to see if they send anything otherwise I will sign again under my partner's name… Unfortunately we only have high speed with VM in our state and until fibre is rolled out we need to keep this stupid game every year…

I signed up for the 12 mth half price but didn’t get it either. I’m thinking of cancelling and signing up in my other half’s name but afraid there might be a drop in service between the two. Can anyone who has done this please let me know how this works?

    Thanks

I cancelled a couple of weeks ago and was prepared to switch or sign-up under a new contract. However, I received a call from the retention team the other day. In the end they offered half price BB and TV for another 12 months.

That’s three years in a row at half price on the same contract, plus we get to keep the 360 box. Streaming box dodged for another year!

My contract is ending on soon and I didn't hear anything back. I signed via Switcher with my partner's name and I got confirmation now. Credit now is 100€. They didn't contact me from the retention team therefore I got the 500 mb for 40€ during 24 months. I'm a bit tired of the yearly switching game. I hope in a couple of years fibre broadband is rollout in the area and I can have a different discussion with them, otherwise I will do the same…

Got the most random experience with Virgin Media…. Yesterday I got an email confirming my offer. I got an appointment for installation in 2 weeks for full fibre broadband. I called today and I was told that my home needed an upgrade to roll out full fibre broadband. I asked to have the same equipment as my neighbour (basically my current broadband) and I was told that's not possible…. I cancelled and called to see what the retentions team could do for me… I got a super rude agent from eastern Europe that only offer me 15€ less per month. I told him I wasn't interested. He didn't care. I called again and I got in touch with a lovely Irish guy that confirmed that they applied the 50% off for 12 months that I applied back in the day… He told me that I probably had received a message or so… I told him my partner did but we never got any sort of confirmation. I will keep you posted. So far I haven't got any dpd collection information for the equipment which I believe is positive. I might call tomorrow to confirm the 50% will be applied to my account. Virgin Media is an absolute chaos….

For anyone looking for the 9 months for half price, there seems to be a new link active which is valid until end of June:

[boards.ie will not let me post links, but if you just change the loyalty-halfprice-for-9-0425 at the end of the previous link to loyalty-halfprice-for-9-0625 you will find it!]

Have not tried it yet as my contract is not up for another few weeks.

it seems the same works for the 12 months half price link which is better

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 761 ✭✭✭you2008

is that mean you ll lost the 100e welcome credit from Switcher?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 69 ✭✭Duit

Yes I did but I got 50 for 12 months and I don't need to be 2 weeks without internet waiting for an installation. I can't afford being 2 weeks without broadband. If next year we decided to switch I will not wait until the last minute and I will go ahead for full fibre but with more time. I can imagine once the full fibre is installed we can switch to whatever provider we wish

50% off 12 is not bad they full fiber from VM is very nroing

I was glad to hear that it was applied to our account. Today internet stopped working. I called VM and they confirm that the discount was there and there was an outage on our area… I nearly have a hearth attack… XD
