Exacty, need another cult like leader - only with the right motivations and one who is actually capable of running things.

Trump is using a different rulebook, democrats are still using the old one. The old one is useless.

Tariffs of up to 3,521% on solar panels. Who comes up with numbers like that?

The latest wheeze form the White House is that there's a China deal in the offing, the markets getting a bump from the hopium but zero detail as there's been no confirmation that China is actually in talks with Trump.

Most likely it will be a solo run where Trump announces that he's building an alliance against China made up of countries that he's currently tariffing, "be nice to me and I might drop my tariff".

Trump wants to burn oil and drill so this isn’t much of a surprise- having the renewable energy army on his doorstep is an inconvenient truth - what’s laughable is he’s also clear in his understanding around limited earth resources for rare earth materials and minerals to build electronics and weapons - given his sights in Greenland and Ukraine - fck hell he’s super aware - another inconvenient truth and proof his spouting about drill baby drill is complete boll0x

I would love someone to ask Karoline Leavitt, Pam Bondi, Tomi Lahren, MTG and all those MAGA women who fawn and fall at the feet of Trump for their fame and fortune, what would they do if Trump did to them what he said he could do to any woman.

What would they do if he just came up and grabbed them by the pxxxy?

This may be a crass post but I would seriously love to hear their answer. Would they allow it as Trump claims all women allow it because of who he is?

Or do they still have an ounce of self respect and integrity

Not sure the last 2/3 words exist in the vocabulary of Trump cult members tbh.

Because she would have to start campaigning (and thus not really working her job) a year into it.

Obama was considered incredibly fresh with only 3 years in the role when he started campaigning. It just is not feasible.

Vance is giving India a political blow-job right now, pushing American fighter jets and what not on them - I reckon there’s an announcement in the coming weeks

Sky News just said that Musk, from May, will no longer be involved with the Trump Admin and DOGE. He'll be concentrating on Tesla. Hopefully he won't be the first rat leaving that sinking ship that is the Trump Administration.

That was planned as he can only be a special government employee for 130 days

RFK getting a registry made of all the autistic people in the US... Definitely nothing ominous or reminiscent of some deadly regime in that..

I just realised I made a grave mistake and that Schumer's seat isn't up until 2028 -facepalm-

Either way, she's already out there campaigning and is the only Democrat who keeps building momentum. She has a +61 point approval among Democrat voters. Only Obama, Harris, Sanders, Biden and Walz are higher.

She is very, very popular and has a much different message than your run-of-the-mill moderate Democrat. Plus, the DNC leadership is much more liberal now.

this administration governs by different rules, they'd change them if they wanted to.

he is out the door because of the disaster happening at Tesla. He even said he'll continue to work for Trump as long as the president wanted him to but in reality investors with serious muscle have told musk to sort his **** out or else...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,477 ✭✭✭trashcan

I still rate Walz highly. I think he comes across as very genuine, and has a real vibe of the common plain spoken man about him, and I think he could have widespread appeal. I know people will hold it against him that he was on the losing ticket with Harris, but arguably if he had been let off the leash more there may just have been a different outcome. Most of what he says seems really sensible to me. Plus he really got under the skin of Musk, which is hugely in his favour.

Sure, the Trump Administration always follow the rules.

Loads of cheap solar for Europe incoming in that case.

Walz comes across as a good man to me. Having said that, I don't think he's a Presidential figure (and I don't think he personally wants to be President himself), but he'd be a perfect VP and I thought he was a great pick by Harris.

People say he has 'woke' policies but at the end of the day he's in favour of people being themselves without judgement and that says a lot more about him than it does about his detractors.

Not to mention his own story. Issues around fertility, his son having profound autism etc. Just an all-round good guy.

If the current sh!tshow continues until 2028, and she keeps ramping up support and momentum, the Republicans are toast.

Trump won the popular vote, aka a majority. The Dems need to hold their own base as much as possible as well as turn at least some of the Trump voters to them. I suspect they will need to move at least on some social issues to capture these votes.

If they run AOC they will have at best a contentious election, where given the current **** show it should be a Dem landslide.

Aka a plurality. He didn't win a majority of votes.

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 8,048 Mod ✭✭✭✭circadian

I keep seeing this DNC is more liberal statement but how? Socially? That's easy enough to achieve but I seriously doubt economically liberal is on the table. AOC has a mountain to climb to even attempt to push a presidential run and Waltz will most likely be constrained by the big money in politics.

Citizens United made sure that the economically liberal do not stand a chance in either party.

I think Bernie is right in his current objectives. He's largely ignoring the culture war. He's pushing for day to day economic benefits and that strikes a chord with both democrat and republican voters alike. He's actively avoiding "establishment democrats" and supports "independents" who are focused on things like education, healthcare and social security over social issues. I think of people see a genuine improvement on their lives then it becomes much more difficult to use minority groups as a scapegoat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,913 ✭✭✭✭briany

I wish Bernie all the luck in the world because I think he's bang on with his general message, but he's working against some deeply, deeply entrenched cultural values and general human tendencies.

He says he's for access to education, healthcare and a decent social safety net. Right wing media will say that he wants to tell you where you can send your kids to school, which doctor you're allowed to see and wants to give your tax dollars away.

    1. Make list of all autistic people in America
    2. Deport all to El Salvador without due process
    3. Trump makes announcement that he has cured autism in America - Winning!!

where is Antony Blinking in all of this searching for a democratic candidate?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,884 ✭✭✭McFly85

AOC would be a poor choice for 28 imo. I think she’s a brilliant congresswoman but for her to work, she’d need the entire party behind her and her policies, which isn’t going to happen. Too many senior members of the party are nowhere near as left as her and would staunchly disagree with her on a range of topics.

Also - she’s too young. Not to do the job, but once you’ve been president you’re basically out of the political system. She’s too good where she is to leave that now.

Best case scenario is someone centre left that most of the party can get behind, with AOC gunning for 36.

And it's not going to happen because the Dems aren't actually left wing, they're just left of the republicans

This is the problem with the 2 party system. Having Bernie Sanders caucus for the dems and run in their elections alongside someone like Joe Biden

If this was any other western country you'd have a MAGA party, a traditional Conservative party, a centrist Libertarian party, a left of centre Democratic party, a Green party, a Socialist party, and a bunch of others at the extremes.

Some of these exist but can't compete because the 2 main parties are so large they skew the spectrum.

The dems are at least 3 parties rolled into 1 for me
