Vance would probably be sent as he converted to the RC faith in August 2019, baptised and confirmed in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Different times. Different optics. This will need to be on a scale of the queen's death. Not so much the mourning period but the funeral itself will be a big event, broadcast live and every western leader will be there and he will definitely sully the whole affair by talking about himself, blaming woke politics, saying the pope was too liberal, he (trump) won the 2020 elections. Will announce a temp lifting of tariffs on exports from Rome (indeed). Will say the pope was very nice man but mean to him when he said he wouldn't tell them to go for am American pope.

Anyway, that's more of a conversation for other thread

With the border, you do wonder how much would have been achieved under the bi-partisan agreement that trump got scared of.

Would it basically be the same but without the illegal bits?

The rapid actions of the USSC should be viewed as a reaction to the conduct of the Trump administration who have acted on the principle that if you act quicker than the law can respond, then you stand a much better chance of getting away with stuff.

This will be a vicious cycle - extreme actions by Trump, lead to extreme responses from the USSC which Trump can then use to further vilify the USSC in the eyes of his supporters until it hits the critical point that Trump just ignores what the USSC says, garnering wild applause from MAGA. The USSC will hold him in contempt, but literally nothing will happen to him, and that will essentially be the end of the USSC as we know it.

The USSC voted 6-3 to give Trump immunity. That is the point where the USSC abandoned "checks and balances".

Trump can pretty much try anything he wants and not even get a smack on the wrist. Look at how Johnson used just 3 of the 700+ members of the privy council to force the Queen to prorogue parliament, because they found a loophole and abused it.

The six conservatives ruled that presidents and ex-presidents enjoy absolute immunity for exercising their core constitutional powers, including acting as commander in chief of the armed forces, and presumed immunity for their official acts.

The three liberal justices dissented, characterizing the decision as a stark and dangerous expansion of presidential power that in effect places the nation’s chief executive above the law.

Won't work. Trump is 25 years older than Obama.

Or run as Vice President and have a puppet win and then pull the strings.

A bit far fetched in the US but consolidating power in another role and have a token president is done elsewhere. Stalin was only the General Secretary of the Communist Party.

If you read the article I linked, apparently the DOJ documents, in English only, were provided to the immigrants and not their attorneys and basically said, "We're going to deport you, buh-bye." Plus, the immigrants didn't have a lot of notice.

"The government sought to evade this order <not to deport> by busing the migrants into the Northern District of Texas, where the restraining order would not apply. It then gave these migrants “notices,” in English only, declaring that they would be deported immediately, without stating that they could contest their deportations in court. (Officials refused to give these notices, or any other information, to the migrants’ lawyers.) The government intended to fly them out of the country within 24 hours, according to court filings."

GOP's degenerated from Judge shopping to District shopping now.

Nasty fascist Pam Bondi DOJ activity, but hey, she's largely responsible for GWB and, subsequently, Trump. Evil hag.

Would Trump have won without the catholic vote ?

Paris is well worth a mass - attributed to Henry IV, 1593 though he ended religious wars with the Edict of Nantes whereas this lot seem to be doing the opposite with their treatment of minorities.

"Or run as Vice President and have a puppet win and then pull the strings."

Perfectly plausible. Straight from Putin's playbook

Trump has immunity for official acts. You could argue that breaching the constitution is not an official act so he shouldn't be afforded immunity.

I don't think it's as clear cut as he can shoot someone in times square and get away with it. He could declare said person an enemy combatant, have them deported abroad and then drop a bomb on them.

That's fake news - did you not hear about the border and the great success at the border, Biden/Harris the Csar/Hillary/Obama are all at fault for the border. Illegal aliens who are rapists, murders and wrecking communities etc. etc. Of course they find time to do all that when they aren't propping up a good chunk of casual labour and US agri……

(Please don't mention Trump instructed GOP senators nefariously sink the the long negotiated border bill a year ago)

Selfishly taking advantage of the work ethic and sense of duty of elderly sick man who's at deaths door just for a photo op ? Anyone with an ounce of decency would postpone until the other person was feeling better.

    Premeditated.

In fairness I reckon he was old school in that you keep going until the last breathe. Ratzinger stepping down was an exception. At least he lived to see Messi lift the world cup!

It's more true than you'd think. I mean they voted for a bloody convict for President, elected the party that time and again robs them blind and they've been bluepilled for 40 years with weapons grade bullshít from the likes of Fox News and magnified by Facebook and other Regressive Wing outlets. Not all of America is stupid but when a massive amount cant even read above a 6th grade level that tells you alot at how ignorant and stupid large chunks of their society are, hell the stupity has gotten so bad the "Republican" party has degenerated into a regressive cult, with far too many cowards, incompetents and idiots in charge of it. It's going to end badly for them the longer this goes on.

Over 1,000 down or 4,300 points lost since January 1st or 10%+ of entire market...

Yes. And that was taken advantage of. Just like Truss and Liz. If the people who have power over you don't have empathy then don't expect them to go out of their way to help you.

Right now 59% of Americans would have to borrow to cover a $1,000 emergency (€870). The 90 day pause on tariffs means that they aren't seeing that price adjustment yet.

There's absolutely no proof, but let's ship him off to El Salvador anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,637 ✭✭✭yagan

That doesn't make sense as the USA is applying tariffs on its allies, but no doubt any US media source will ignore that.

Why would any country whose exporters are losing US customers because of Trump tariffs decide to erect more trade friction.

You'd have to argue that with the Trump appointed judges on the Supreme Court that gave him that immunity.

But like you say he can do things indirectly. Citizenship can be removed for Treason. Redefining it is one option.

Yeah, I was reading that justice Roberts had called the scope of immunity 'limited'. My understanding is that they kicked it back down to the courts for the question of what is and isn't official acts.

But we know that Trump would absolutely try to make any bit of shady business an 'official act', which is where the potential abuse of the wording would come in.

Take a common crime like arson - if Trump took a witness with him, maybe even a whole secret service detail, and declared to them that he was about to set fire to a random house in the name of the office of POTUS (for national security reasons only he knows, he could claim), could he get that classified as an official act? It would be a mental and completely senseless one, but this is just laid out to test the theory. If he says it's official and related to core duties of the presidency, would it be official?

Or better yet, if he believed it to be official. This was something Trump's defence were advancing in preparation for the insurrection case - he didn't think/know he was doing wrong.
