Who said that a beginning of April launch was expected? The only timeline I read was that it would be Spring.

And the latest news from the Onic website says "Onic is set to launch exciting new DAB+/digital stations, offering enhanced sound quality and choice."

It doesn't say that they are already on air. Is there a source where they are announced as on air?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,224 ✭✭✭Infoanon

The Onic announcement was made March 26th.

Classis Hits 80s and Nova Xtra are both supposed to be on air for the last number of weeks.

Onic really are going for it there. Would be nice to see a real electronic/dance station in the mix somewhere on the service.

I know one of the lads in Freedom and he told me a few weeks ago but wasn’t sure whether I could say it or not! Well I can now. 😂

Are the tests on now? How far down the east coast are those signals travelling?

He wouldn’t have known your name on here and you wouldn’t have had to mention him. Great news of course

8Radio may also be making a similar announcement shortly , they also have a FM temporary license in July AFAIK which would give them an excellent opportunity to promote their other outlets

    In that case… :pac:

Rewind (from the Christmas FM staple) might also make an appearance.

Interesting - that site says "Live from May". I wonder if that's referring to a launch on FailteDab so.

And 8Radio would be a good addition too.

Have to say it’s looking like an absolute quality platform now guys and gals.

Rewind has just changed name on Newry DAB to "The Wave" in the last hour - this could be telling.

Mount Oriel is back on on 5B - and although 35km away, is stronger than the old RTE MUX on Clermont Carn was at 8km

@kazoo106 ,are you referencing OFCOM and the proposed legislation allowing stations based in Ireland carriage on UK DAB services ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 598 ✭✭✭kazoo106

    Nope - the UK version
    https://static.ofcom.org.uk/static/radiolicensing/html/radio-stations/localdigital/dp102178ba3thewave.htm

It probably would be confusing having two stations available in a similar area with the same name !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,224 ✭✭✭Infoanon

Thanks @kazoo106 , i hadn't realised that Christmas FM had a UK company, and therefore could have carriage on UK DAB services.

Wouldn't see an issue with retaining the 'Rewind ' name on the Newry SSDAB , Bauer may not be happy with the use of 'the wave'.

Probably makes sense to change the name as both operations are slightly different. The Dublin one is presenting as a 60s. 70s & 80s station whereas the Newry service seems to be more 80s, 90s & 00s. Also, the presenter line up is different. Today I’ve heard various Christmas FM personnel promoting the launch on DAB in May. I don’t recognise the presenters on the Newry one so not sure where they came from?

The 8Radio website now says - "We’re continuing to work on getting 8Radio a permanent home on your FM and DAB radios in 2025 including being part of a Leinster-wide DAB trial starting in Spring. More news to follow on that one!"

decent range of stations there. Will that be it? I’m surprised not to see more Bauer or Bay Broadcasting channels up there (or is there a phase two)

19 Stations - anyone know how much capacity is left on the Mux ?

Some surprises- laser and Sunsoul , I was expecting multiple Bauer stations and at least two more from Bay.

Talk of a second phase ? Extending the coverage beyond leinster is whatI have heard

receiving 20 channels here in Arklow

Full 5 bars of signal, that’s surely not from Wicklow town or Kippure?

There’s a lot of high ground between here and Wicklow town, are they using a tx near here? I know RTÉ have one near Applegreen and the 104.4 mhz East coast fm is local but I don’t know where it’s located

Great to have so many additional stations on the band! Sounding great here this morning in the house.

Minor comment: They should add a space after the "Onic" in "OnicCountry" and "OnicAlt" for consistency. :)
