It's been like this for about a week now, just getting "Connection Error". I have updated it to the latest version.

Im trying to download a statement from the website, for which in needs authorization from my phone app, it sends a push notification, and I get the notification, but when it tries to open the app, I get connection error.

I have tried logging into the app as normal too, but same deal.

Has anyone experienced or is experiencing something similar?

I used the PTSB app to authorise an online payment this morning, and logged into the app just now, it's working fine for me.

(Phone is a Pixel 8A, Android 15, the PTSB app version is v11.7)

Connection was using the house wifi, not mobile data, btw.

Had the same problem last month. Uninstall the app entirely, restart your phone and then re-download it from the playstore.

    Worked for me.

No dice. Same thing. I will ring them tomorrow.

According to some google searches, it seems to be a temporary issue for a small subset of users from time to time. Generally the hardest type of issue to troubleshoot.

I have uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled, deleted cache, and re-registered my device.

    Same issue.

I even tried on pc but I couldn't remember my password tried twice but didn't want input 3rd time in case I got locked out altogether.

I can get into the account on a PC, but, it requires me to authenticate via my phone to download the statements.

Oh so your not getting the notifications, my issue was when I went to download statement then it would send notification I'd input requested digits then I got the connection error msg and it'd log me out.

I am getting the notification, I tap the notification, and it tries to log into the app, and then I get the error.

Try contacting them tomorrow, a pain when you need documents asap.

Yes I will ring them tomorrow. And yes, it's a pain when you need docs asap.

And… I work in IT Security, so I know more than your average Joe how important multi factor authentication is, but needing Auth-n to download your statements is overkill IMO.

That said, it's no worse(arguably technically better) than the convoluted way Revolut have for downloading statements.

I use BOI mainly, PTSB is our joint, I prefer BOI myself. Another option as I do for Business accounts. I download statement at month end and save to desktop folder so there all there in order.

A bit off topic but the mobile site and app are still down after scheduled maintenance that was supposed to run from 3:30 AM to 5:30 AM

Fingers crossed that fixes it, once they come back.

    And it's still down…

As an IT professional this degree of outage would be humiliating.

I can only imagine how bad morale and working conditons must be in there now for standards to have been driven down so low.

Can't help but think they want to force all of their personal customers to another provider.

App and website still down, seen reports that some people's cards not working either. Phone support to close at 5pm today for Easter weekend!

The desktop website was working from my laptop earlier on today. Have things gotten worse ?

But they have that wonderful new slogan on the App that reads "Altogether More Human" which, presumably, is intended to remind us that to err is human. 😣

I was able to login via my laptop earlier this morning (which was important as I had to pay my credit card bill), but still no joy with the app.

They've known the app and mobile website have been down since 5:30 this morning and they JUST NOW come out with this 7 HOURS LATER ???

Neither app nor desktop is working for me.

Just to clarify, the website was working for me before I even opened this thread, now, nothing.

    Same here.

    No phone app

    No desktop..

    Might come back latter.

    App, website both kyboshed.
You'd have concerns about an organisations ability to be in such a prominent position if it cannot correctly manage it's IT infrasturcture. What level of change management is in place in there if scheduled maintainence has lead to a significant multi hour outage……………

Bank of Ireland are no better. Dunno what AIB's systems are like. I was an Ulster Bank customer back in 2012 when they had an outage. That went on for weeks

App or phone not working but thankfully cards and debit debits went through ok.

Originally it was a maintenance window between 3am and 6am this morning.

A mantra, almost, that was drilled into me when I was a Systems Administrator: Never do changes to a system on a Friday because you might end up spending the weekend trying to fix it.

I'd have thought doing similar on Holy Thursday, the day before a defacto bank holiday would be the same.

Usually the time scheduled for an outage window is at least twice the amount of time required to make the change, so a 3 hour outage window, should have been for a very small change. Not something that would cripple it for… going on 12 hours now.

I've worked on BOI's systems and they are, or were any way pretty old. I'd imagine PTSB's are in a similar state. When people wonder why the banking experience you get with the likes of Revolut can't be done by PTSB/BOI/AIB, it's because Revolut have brand spanking new systems with the latest tech.
