It's pretty simple, the opposition were terrified of our front line until recently. Now they can ignore them and swamp midfield instead. 5 against 3 means our lads are chasing shadows and the front 3 don't drop back to support them enough.

That won't change without signing someone with pace up front. A decent striker would be a start.

Everything has been about get the ball to Salah and while he was performing, he was lethal but he has gone off the boil and we are still playing it to Salah.

I'm not even sure we play with a true striker in mind. So a change of direction would be required.

He hasn't recreated his excellent first half of the season form and that's probably being ignored tbf.

I don't know where he ends up position wise in he future. He made a fantastic go of the position he has been played though.

Feels like he's been playing it safe lately, not driving forward as much, passing sideways more and more.

    He's been absolutely flogged thou

Gravenberch is a Rolls Royce of a player.

Maybe tired a little in recent weeks but would deservedly make the premier league team of the year (although Rice might pip him, ironically due to his performance in the Champions League).

He's only 22, hasn't really played much in the 2 seasons previous, so fitness wise he's not used to playing every game like this season.

I actually have not seen much of Klopp in this Liverpool team, other than a few times in a few matches where we upped the intensity. I think the transition from one to the other has been quite quick. You cannot expect a different dish if you use the same ingredients when cooking, i.e. don't expect a roast dinner when you have ingredients for a cake, so you will see the some Klopp in our play when we have the same players but they are not a Klopp team or gameplan this year.

Why bring up BS speculation from the Spanish media? Next season Madrid will have a Modric size hole in their creativity, the media speculation is that they will fill that hole with a player such as Mac Allister. What player in their right mind would say no to them?

When asked the question, Mac Allister's father told the Argentinian media that his son is very happy at Liverpool and has no interest in moving to Madrid. I'd be inclined to believe what he has to say because he has never been shy about telling them what's going on. He was the original source for the open secret that Mac Allister was going to join Liverpool from Brighton for a very modest fee.

The lack of effective pressing from the front three is a big factor in the drop in performance levels of the team. Defensively Jota is a passenger who jogs around a bit chasing players, he doesn't have the pace to close down the back line quickly enough.

Without the fulcrum of the press being able to do the required job the whole thing falls apart. Instead of chasing the ball like a terrier he drops off and as a result it's easier for the opposition to come forward and in the process create more work for the midfield.

In the early part of the season, the front three had the energy levels to press the opposition and Gravenberch was essentially a sweeper in front of our back line. He could anticipate the danger because it was easier to see it coming, but now we are getting overloaded in that area of the pitch and even a young Javier Mascherano would struggle to hold back the tide.

He played way too many games this season, which could be said for another 5 players or so. I can't be hard on them for crashing out of the CL and losing the final in the same week, because it was simply a ludicrous situation to be in with our squad of players.

It is troublesome to think of how we're going to alleviate this issue in the transfer market because it needs to be sorted in every part of the pitch, but for now I'm just looking forward to Sunday.

I saw there Shaqiri is having a great season, 29 G/A and on the verge of winning Basel their first title since 16/17. Top player shame about injuries.

Finally booked my work holidays to cover the Monday and Tuesday after the last game of the season

Had the flights booked for ages and the hotel longer than that but held off booking the time off mostly because it's the least important thing to have booked ahead of time (flights and hotels getting very expensive now) as well as not wanting to jinx it (manager is an Arsenal fan….so….yeah, had to be careful booking the holidays!)

But now at the very very very worst case where before the last day of the season we lose all remaining games and Arsenal win all of theirs, we can still win the league on the final day of the season. There's no way of making the trip where we can't win the league or already have it won by then. And we will.

No Champions League means we already know the parade will be the 26th even if they can't quite say that yet.

    I'm the same 🙂

Early flight Sunday morning. Flight home on the Monday won't be getting used now, booked one for Tuesday afternoon, can't wait

Can't remember where I saw it, but the council have confirmed they have plans in place for the 26th. Bank holiday over there too, can't begin to imagine how busy it'll be!

Oh wow I didn't realise it was a bank holiday!

Was over there for the last game the last couple of times we had the chance of winning on the final day, and went to Klopp's last game last season, and atmosphere was great each time despite us not winning anything

Can only imagine how it'll be with a trophy being lifted

Think it was the year we played Southampton away last game was the last bank holiday I was there and it was busy Monday, can't imagine what its going to be like this year with the parade and BBC big weekend on, won't get into a pub at all

Yeah, I always love the last day too. Last year I got a ticket for Klopp's goodbye at a week's notice, did a solo day trip which was a slog but well worth it. This year should be off the chart though!

I'm off the last day of the season and the next day, think I'll head over. No chance of a ticket but there's no where I'd rather be when Virgil lifts the trophy.

I thought the trophy would be presented on the next home game after we have officially won the title? Do they normally wait til the last game of the season?

Happy to hear that people are heading over for the trophy lift. After the COVID season, it'll be a very special day. Match ticket not a requirement to join the party. Best I'll manage is going to the Spurs match on the day that we hopefully seal it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,801 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

I was in the Sandon for the year we nearly won under Rodgers (14? 15?) and the atmosphere was unreal, had an amazing day. After the match the floor of the conservatory collapsed with everyone bouncing and singing 🙈

No, it's the last game. It was early last time because of COVID season, but that was just a one off

This'll be the first time the trophy is presented in Anfield with fans since 88 (90 was away)

They should always rearrange fixtures , so that title contenders are at home on last day of season. Would be easy to do 5 weeks before end of season.

The guy is getting overran, and overloaded when Liverpool are out of possession, because teams pile forwards in numbers against you's.

And on the ball, his space is targeted, before Christmas you would see him take the ball, mainly from either VVD or Konate, turn his man and drive forward. Now teams are targeting their press, they no longer push up on Gravenberch, so when he does get the ball his passing/running lanes are blocked, as his markers sits back off him, this forces him sideways. To counter that, you need width and good passing options from your full backs, and neither Trent or Robertson are providing that lately.

crazy to think mo salah will probably go down as the best all time premier league player, and could finish with a 30 goal 20 assist season (something Messi never achieved), but they’ll still never give him a ballon dor. Football is too focused on appearences & celebrity, someone like Bellingham could win the ballon dor this year just for winning the champions league, it’s all a massive political farce.

The Ballon D'or is as much to do with social media as it is with football

In the Klopp era I think we only had 2 end of season games away from home, 1 of which was without fans anyway

Actually 3, West Brom in his first season

Klopp had 3x home games v Wolves to finish the season!

And we're home again to Palace this season, same fixture as 2021

The Suarez one is sensational when you remember he missed the first 8 games because he likes flesh and he wasn't on penalties.
