I think there is a bit to much reading into the perceived delays to vetting. It can be a bit of lottery. I'm in my mid thirties and married. Once you have a spouse or partner the amount of vetting can more than double with the amount of people to be background checked. If someone is much younger chances are they will be single and also if someone comes from a small family, chances are their vetting will clear quicker.

I’m in my 20s and I’m waiting since 2023, so I don’t think it’s an age thing, more rather to do with your individual vetting/ family members abroad, etc

Hey. I'm wondering for anyone that did the assessment stage one last year, how long before publicjobs got back to you with results? Thanks!

I think it's around 4 to 6 weeks if memory serves me well. An order of merit will be published. Depending on your ranking, will determine how long the wait would be, to be called for the competency based interview next.

have my PCT test tomorrow, failed it a few weeks ago at the higher standard, got 4.4 and found it very tough. Have been running since and meeting the distance within the time. Hoping it will go well. The anxiety for tomorrow is killing me. Does anyone know if you fail tomorrow and this is to your second go, do you get a third and final?

you can email them and ask for an appeal. I don’t know if you’re 100 percent guarantee it. But it’s worth a try. The beep test is 5.6 now so if you’re running a lot I say you’ll be grand. A lot of younger people are finding it a lot easier then the regional layout.

Hi. Mine took about 30 mins. Was asked questions about my application. Was asked why I want to become a member? And what good skills I possess. And then a general chat about my working history and any real life scenarios Iv been through.

Hi all, just wanted to ask if anyone from batch 6 has heard anything. I passed the pct in February, had my medical 10 days later and have yet to hear from Garda recruitment. My OOM was 49 after the interview so I was hopeful to hear something sooner rather than later but I guess OOM doesn’t mean anything once we reach the vetting phase.

    Thanks in advance.

They may or may not let you know if you have passed the medical so i would call HR and they should help.

Im batch 2 with medical complete and i still have heard nothing since so just be prepared for the long road.

I’m well prepared for the long road 😂 not my first rodeo with vetting for certain positions but by god some sort of feedback would be appreciated regarding other parts of the process. I get it they can’t tell us a time frame for vetting due to whatever unknown/known factors but the likes of medicals etc they should give feedback regardless if it’s positive or not.

Did you have your local interview with the Sergeant/Inspector yet?

I was in Batch 1. PCT in late June, medical 1st week of July. No offer until late February 2025 for March intake. Just to give you some type of idea of a timeline.

I know of a few more from Batch 1 with similar dates too.

Public jobs eally need to reply to emails.I know their up the walls but when you send a email you expect to get some sort of reply from them.Im batch 6 and due o lack of communication I'm considering just withdrawn from the process.

Batch 4 2024 campaign, passed everything and vetting in since September 2024,was called about December and March intake asking would i go down if vetting clears,i said yes both times but didn't receive official offer,is many people waiting from batches 1-4 for offers still? I'm hearing people getting offers within 3-4weeks after handing vetting in so im beginning to think there might be something wrong with my vetting which i dont think there should be 🤔

not sure if it is public jobs that can help you.. they just set up and run the campaign to a certain point, but as far as I know it’s the Garda HR that take it over once you have completed all sections and passed them and you are waiting on your vetting to clear.

Has anyone done the medical yet.I have my medical coming up and would like to know what's involved as I have white coat syndrome bad exper when I was a child and anytime I enter a medical area my blood pressure rises a little.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 72 ✭✭Grayzer1979

It involves an eye test and hearing test done with a nurse, takes your height and weight too from what I can remember. Urine sample as well.

After this you go to a doctor, does a very quick physical exam, checked my stomach area, asked me to squat, touch my nose with eyes closed, few other bits and then asked me a load of yes/no questions about medical history etc.

    Be grand...

Hi all,I printed out the vetting form today and they want so much information in a week which is impossible. For example I have alot of uncles and aunts I don't talk too,how can I ask them for information, also have deceased family members,I don't even know where to start.Any advice would be very welcome. My dad's side of the family,I don't even know where they live.

If you have any information at all I.e name, city they were born, you maybe able to get information from GROResearchRoom@welfare.ie. they can search births, deaths and marriages. Brilliant service by email. Very quick and successful. They will charge for a copy of what they find. I used it for many relations and found it very good. Won't solve all your problems but worth a shot!

Has anyone here done the new fitness test as yet and how did you find it to do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 72 ✭✭Grayzer1979

The fitness test has been mentioned on the thread before. It's not particularly difficult.

I did the old one last June so it's even easier now as the push ups and sit ups are gone (which weren't hard) and the bleep test is only to a low enough level.

Obstacle course is grand once you take time.

has anyone any advice on passing the fitness test, I understand to some it is easy but I just cannot seem to meet the target, I can run the distance within the time but it’s the mentality around the bleep. I got 4.7 on the first go with the old test, redone the new and got just over 3. Really struggling with this. I done it 2 weeks ago and have felt very unmotivated since and have not ran much, I am down again in two weeks to retest. Has anyone any advice please?
