Station 11 looks to be available on the Sky Store for Ireland...

    https://www.skystore.com/boxset/entertainment/station-eleven-season-1/554bea33-bce5-43a9-b55d-08dd7ea9c93b

I watched it on IPTV. Excellent series.

Reviews for season 2 are out. Mostly very positive but reading the ign one, it seems that Bella can't match Ellies maturity in the 2nd game and Dever outshines them. I always thought Dever would make a great Ellie, before any casting was announced, can absolutely picture her as Ellie, especially in the 2nd season.

Season 3 is official. Already hinted at by the creators that season 3 will cover the 2nd part of the 2nd game so not surprising.

That one that plays Ellie is so annoying.

    Bad choice for the part.

I thought Ramsey was perfect for Ellie. Absolutely perfect. I thought all the casting was perfect. Her character reminded me of Hailee Steinfeld's character in True Grit. One minute, gawping in wonder at things like Ice Cream van and a plane (Or, in Steinfeld's case, telling a silly childish joke around the campfire) Quite childlike. Next, swearing like a sailor who just stubbed their toe as that's the world she grew up in. Thought they knew the game perfectly. As they should of course, given the people involved. (You know how much attention to detail when you have Marlene played by the same actor as the game and include actors like Troy Baker in the series). And, I mean, simply from the photos, that image of her and Dina at the dance could have been lifted straight from the game.

I'm looking forward to season 2. Assume Season 2 break is where all the players suspect it is. Will say no more.

My only concerns is the age. While she actually IS about the right age, she doesn't look it. Admitedly, that may be down to the fact that we initially saw her as the ludicrously bad-ass Lyanna Mortmont when she was like 13 or 14.

Is there a season 1 recap at the start of this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,480 ✭✭✭jj880

They show the Season 1 final scene with Joel and Ellie but no recap.

I thought it was a good first episode with some good extra characters that add to the game story.

It was an ok first episodd but certainly not as gripping as the 1st season 1st episode. It was a bit slow to get started too and yes a recap would have been nice. Its dies get s bit better and us quite tense in parts. Strange ending though. Guess we will find out what happens there in the next episode.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

I really enjoyed the first season. Never played the game. Not a fan of time jumps usually in TV shows or films but I am guessing that is following the game.

The first episode sets things up well, I wouldn't have minded a bit of a recap though. Nice to see some really excellent new cast popping up I always really like Catherine O Hara and Kaitlyn Dever.

I don't remember the Ellie character being quite as irritating in season 1.

I wonder are we going to get some insight into why she is treating Joel like crap? Is is she just a grumpy teenager? (Or have I missed something?) Is it because he saved her at the end of season 1?!

Its explained in a cut scene in the game. If they follow the timeline rigidly it will be a while before we see it. Im interested to see how they handle it as its 1 of the best parts of the game.

As someone who enjoys the games a lot more than the show, i really really enjoyed this episode. It was crazy how they copied some scenes down to a t. The ep is getting average reviews but i think they did a great job building up the incoming threat and Joel and Ellie's relationship. For anyone interested, here are some shot comparisons between game and show. There were actually a lot more but gives an idea how close they're sticking.

I could have sworn that was Ruth Negga in the opening scene of the latest episode. Didn't see her name in the credits and it's not listed on her IMDB profile.

Still can't buy into Bella Ramsey as Ellie. Fine actress and all as she is.. she just doesn't resemble the character as portrayed in the game. Irrelevant to those viewers not familiar with the game but for the gamers, it can be a potential deal breaker.

Which makes me wonder if this is one of those games that just doesn't transition well to a screen adaptation. First season was obviously successful enough to warrant a second season (production values are top notch) but is it the gaming community keeping this show afloat or is there enough interest from the general audience to keep them coming back for more?

I'm sticking with it in the hope of better things to come.

It's not Ruth negga, it's Tati Gabrielle. You might have seen her with the tight hair cut in "the chilling adventures of Sabrina" where she played prudence

I also found her annoying but I did give her credit, the actress, for putting in such a good performance ..for her age.

Turns out though I just learned Ransey is not a teenager but is in fact 21 years old and was 19 years old when S1 was shot. I had though she was 14 or so , so I withdraw the credit I gave her initially.

Not sure if I'll bother with S2, I recall S1 started off promising but I lost interest as it progressed.

Episode 1 is following the usual "men are just dumb and women are smart, brave, wise and emotionally intelligent" fare.

It did seem particularly on the nose in this episode compared to last season. I can't recall any particular moment in season 1 where Ellie irritated me beyond words but there was plenty of it here, kind of like an overgrown petulant 15 year old as opposed to someone who is 19 and who grew up in a zombie apocalypse no less.

I'm guessing this is an intentional choice that they're making for the character though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,582 ✭✭✭MfMan

Have to agree; she's becoming very impetuous and irritating.

Was it explained what the connection is between the young team at the start, 'heading to Seattle' and the graves they are standing over? Presumably they are the resting places of the characters Joel shot in the closing previous episode.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,522 ✭✭✭bren2001

    Well, in episode one:

Ellie sees a trail of blood, ignores her leader, goes into a Supermarket where there is infected with Dina, escapes and washes the infection/fungus down the drain. There won't be any consequences there….

I don't see how that fits the narrative of "women are smart".

No spoilers, purely from what they were talking about in that scene. They are talking about Joe or Joel and what he did, they are at the scene of the hospital from the season 1 finale standing over a bunch of Fireflies graves. Marlene mentioned last season that this group was the last of the Fireflies. The group is talking about a faction in Seattle that could take them in and they will look for leads there for Joel where Abby plans to kill him slowly.

5 years later, ep 1 ends with the team arriving at Jackson. The blanks will be filled in.. Roll on episode 2!
