Looks like Radar was partying long last night.

The camera staying on the player when they have played a shot rather than showing the ball flight is very very annoying. It's happened numerous times.

Mc Ginley is with NBC and the Golf Channel who have no live coverage of the Masters from what I believe.

    Its ESPN and CBS.

Perhaps he has been demoted by Sky.

Skys coverage is dire, the commentators bar Butch would put one to sleep.

I'd say the US gig is far more lucrative as it's practically a full time job, he'd probably only be on Sky once or twice a month at most. He's done well for himself, shows how big the Ryder cup captaincy is I suppose.

RE Sky's coverage I think Radar, Beem and Murray are good also, but I could take or leave the rest. Think Billy Foster could be a good addition to the main team, I see they have him on the highlights/preview shows this year.

Radar Still very good , but he genuinely sounded hung over yesterday.

The rest of them are brutal , I know by nature of golf it is repetitive and hard to come up with new stories ..but gone unbelievably repetitive, same old stories and clichés.

They need a bit of youth and someone who has done something in modern game ..in US .

McGinely trying to do too much everywhere,,, fair play if Sky gave him boot ..you can hardly do 4 or 5 gigs well ... his quick focus pieces have been hit and miss..

Your not in a great place ..when Butch an 80 odd year old man , has been near best thing..

I've been watching CBS, far better commentary.

Faldo gives an odd great insight.

But - the full crew on sky are well past the shelf life - needs a rethink.

Davies there " this is a good effort from Rory no matter what " - Jaysus.

IMO the sky team for the Masters is pretty good. Butch is great and while Faldo is a controversial figure, he also gives a great insight and seems genuine. And is obviously an all time great of the game.

The bit where he said "I know people hate when I talk about myself" while going on (again) to talk about himself hitting the greatest shots of his career in a pressure situation - might seem narcissistic but I think in the context of what Rory did it added to the coverage.

I agree, Faldo seems very awkward and can be cringey but he is very knowledgeable and his insights are great. Of course he talks about himself but he's won 3 times in Augusta and really gives you a sense of what it's like - much more than the others. Colthart is a pain but I like the others, especially Rich Beam & Radar. Not sure Dame Laura adds much

That segment with Dougherty, Faldo, McGinley was abysmal.

McGinley saying Rory isn't everyone's cup of tea 2 minutes after he achieves the greatest feat in modern golf history, Faldo talking about himself and tripping over his own gibberish, and Dougherty chiming in with cringeworthy nonsense about how he's part of Rory's journey, it was a tough watch.

Davies' mic having issues and not being fixed was amateur hour too. The most interesting person on there (Butch) barely got a word in. Dreadful.

Sky need a rethink ...whilst they are all too loaded to be arsed ...they need someone, young and credible in modern game..

Realistically to be credible you're looking at someone who is at least mid-30s/40s if you're after a younger pundit than the likes of Faldo and McGinley.

And most of the lads in that bracket are either playing this weekend or enjoying a weekend off.

Difficult to find pundits when you can play this sport for so long before retiring.

McGinley trying to dig himself out of a hole on twitter. Strange comments last night, was it related to Rory's stance on LIV? Or what was he on about? Probably regretting it today. Faldo all about himself, he was also over the top in his criticism of Bryson

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,571 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

I think McGinley is obviously one of the boards cranks who hates Rory and felt he needed to give voice to his brothers in the vocal and spiteful minority who dislike Rory.

Was a bizarre thing to lead with in such a momentous moment, utterly bizarre

McGinley and Rory seemed so close around the Ryder Cuo ...clearly along the way something went wrong.

What was that ? Not turning up to the Irish Open ?

Must have been a back story

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,571 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

Wouldn't be the first Rory relationship to go sideways. Gmac and Sergio were both reportedly very close friends but are now on the outs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,537 ✭✭✭Miley Byrne

Yeah, you must be aware surely that McGinley didn't take kindly to Rory snubbing him by skipping it while he was host?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 22,871 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

He does seem a dude you are either fully in or fully out..

But equally, life that famous is nuts , how do you know who to trust ,,, ever day and everyone wants a bit of you..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,537 ✭✭✭Miley Byrne

I'd imagine neither would be any great loss to his circle of friends

Dame Laura calling the Open Championship the British Open… oops.

She seems to have no idea what's going on generally. No concept of where the ball is going, how it will react on the green, the slopes and the way holes play out, nothing.

An interesting person in her own right, but just not suited to commentary

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,830 ✭✭✭CMOTDibbler

The Horizon thing with GMac is the perfect example of not mixing business with friendship. And of course both of them joined LIV. Although I don't think Rory blamed GMac for taking the dollars, his career was about done. Sergio not so much.

no sign of Iona Stephen this week

If Tiger isn't able to recover from his injuries, it'd be some coup to get him on commentary. But likely one of the US networks would get first dibs.
