    Thing of the past alright.

We won't throw in the towel but I'll admit I am a bit more focused on the FA cup and top 5 race now. I woke up just before 3am to watch that match… I won't do that for the 2nd leg.

    No away goals now.

The interesting thing is how does Emery approach the game I doubt we’ll try and go all out from the off but an early goal would put us right back in it.

PSG won’t change their style of play but I think we’ll try and contain them for the first 60 and try and counter attack but we’ll need to play higher up the pitch. If we get one goal we’ll need that final push in the last quarter.

Strongest side to start including Rashford and Asensio

I see PSG scoring at least one against us....we will need to attack at some point and they can be devastating on the counter attack.

This run has been great though. We have a proper squad now...although I still dont have much time for Rashford in our jersey.

Would love to see us get to an FA cup final

Yes unfortunately if PSG score I don’t think there’s any way back. Just got to concentrate on Saturday and getting that 5th CL spot. I see Newcastle and Chelsea as our main rivals for that place

That 3rd goal was very unfortunate. At 2-1 we could have stuck with the same plan, and just tried to knick 1. But now we will, at some point, have to go and try to score. And I feel thats when they could rip us apart.

Anyway, even this is the end of the road for us, still lots to look forward to!

Am I mad to think that it will be a different kind of game next week? Home games against Bayern and Juve, Villa were doing a lot more than just hoping for the odd break.

Im not saying that it’s looking likely to make the full recovery, but Villa will have enough chances to go through. Just need to have one of those nights where Villa are very efficient in front of goal.

Is rashford a better 9 than Oillie, is he fcuk. Lazy as shite last night, didnt run the channels or hold up the ball, caught in possesion to many times put him on the left or nowhere at all

Think that's a bit harsh, he was on a hiding to nothing up there on his ow and did actually manage to bring players in a couple of times. Don't think Watkins would have done much better, not a night for a number 9.

We Can't have 10 lads running around like McGinn. Rashford looks lazy but he has been damn effective with the ball. He did set up the goal last night.

I'm not super pessimistic about the 2nd leg. We had 3 chances where a pass was on and the player took the shot. Rogers had 2 of them and Tielemans had the other.

rashford is a left sider player, hes not a 9, maybe a bit harsh but ollie all day for me.

Fairly sure Ollie was benched due to his fitness, rather than because Rashford was preferred as a central option. I'd say Unai even knew how much he was losing not having Ollie fit up there.

No, Emery mentioned he is carrying some knee issue. Hopefully it won’t be long lasting, because him up top for 90 minutes will be definitely be required if the remaining objectives are to be successful.

Watkins has to start next Tuesday for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,404 ✭✭✭✭CSF

You would expect he won’t start tomorrow, to try make him better able to do that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,676 ✭✭✭Sono

could see Malen starting and Rashford on the left maybe.

That’s a good shout. Malen does bring plenty of energy and I’m rooting for him after the way he was left out of the cl squad.

Martinez, Cash, Konsa, Maatsen, Onana, Tielemans, Ramsey, Asensio, Rodgers, Rashford

I was expecting to see Malen & Maybe Garcia but I do like that side as it is good enough to be our first team but sees Kamara, Torres, Watkins all rested, plus the likes of Maatsen for Digne and Mings for Torres really aren't much of a drop in quality especially when facing an already relegated side.

Hopefully the likes of Asensio, Rodgers & Rashford are simply too much for Southampton

Still confident we can break down this southampton side even if it takes something special off the bench but we do struggle to break down sides who approach a game like this (trying not to lose as apposed to trying to win) and despite all the possesion we have had so far haven't really made Ramsdale do a whole lot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,509 ✭✭✭Patser

Just too slow, all lovely flicks and tricks 30 yards out, as Southamption get 10 back into box, build a wall, dig trenches - and then, eventually when they are fully dug in we just throw in a cross and wonder why we're outnumbered

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,509 ✭✭✭Patser

Obviously got new instructions at half time - try shooting…

    Tielamens 30 yard shot… blocked

    Mings 30 yard shot… wide

Not sure they are the people Unai meant to be shooting

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,509 ✭✭✭Patser

That was much better, Onana actually stormed forward quickly from a Saints attack, and suddenly we had space, and alright pass to Asensio to create a chance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,509 ✭✭✭Patser

Malen and Ollie getting ready, great to have players you can see changing a game as options

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,640 ✭✭✭basillarkin

    a missed pen

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 23,030 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

100% was a foul on Ollie who was just on and made a difference

pity though that Asensio couldn't do better with it… now prove you can break down the worst team in the league without a pen lads

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,509 ✭✭✭Patser

Someone lock ArtaneVilla in a toilet - I've a feeling we're just not scoring today

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 23,030 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

    Ollie does so

much happier with him at CF than Rashford
