There are plenty of companies advertising on line to do this for you. Most I have seen charge around 500e, I can understand why people would pay to get it sorted. I managed to do it myself but it wasn't simple. Its no different to hiring an accountant to do your end of year tax returns - you can do them yourself for free. Bearing in mind a number of these people, myself included, are approaching retirement age and the CF83 form is quite daunting

I think they should really put more effort to updating the online site on checking payments made, it would cut down on a lot phone calls people like me phoning to see if they have actually received the payment when I should be able just to log on to HMRC and check.

It isn't a straight forward process to apply to make class 2/3 voluntary payments , as pointed out by fritzelly a few posts back on how to make payments, I wouldn't blame anyone paying someone to do it for them especially older people who might find it more confusing especially online ,I know it all can be done by post. Seems alot but it might be worth €650 to some people.

tbh I don't know how anyone can legally do that for you. Anyone who provides that service has to pretend to be you to get the required information so they are committing fraud.

Wake me up when it's all over.

It can legally be done, you appoint an agent. Like having an accountant do your tax or using an online service to claim a tax refund.

You can legally appoint an agent. The same as you can appoint an accountant to do your tax return. As mentioned above

It obviously was worth the e650 to at least one person. It wouldn't be me.Nice money for possibly 3 contacts with HMRC

One well advertised company that was used for comment in a national newspaper was looking for 1000 euro.

4.1% from 7/4/25 to £230.25 from £221.20 The previous scheme will pay £176.45 from £169.50

    4.1% on £221.20 is £230.26 or £230.27 with rounding but who gives a ………….

To be fair I only heard about the UK pension thing from someone from on of these companies who was being interviewed on the radio. I had no idea I might be entitled to a UK pension let alone the ability to buy back multiple years (my ignorance was astounding).

When I spoke to the Company in question it was a €500 fee, with the first €250 for checking your eligibility (which I did myself by creating a HMRC account at home in minutes), with the second €250 for making your application for you to check what class you had to pay (which I did online myself via a CF83 using information from Revenue and the Dept pf Social Protection about my work history and PRSI payments and advice from here and askaboutmoney).

The funny thing is this Company told me that I had no chance of getting a pension as I only worked for 18 months in the UK and I needed 3 years contributions. Turns out as I have mentioned in this thread my 18 months covered three tax years and I also had the 'free' 3 years you get as well, so I had 6 years of 'contributions' from my 18 months working in the UK. If I had listened to them and not bothered doing my own HMRC registration I would be none the wiser (although I wouldn't have known anything if I hadn't had heard them on the radio so….).

Saw the " three tax years " as opposed to to 3 years , here on this thread and that is why my oh has expressed interest and waiting a call back . Before that we thought he wasn't eligible

Thank you to whomever mentioned that here , was it you @griffin100 ? ..If he gets his pension we owe you a drink at the very least .

In fact thank you everybody posting good info on here . Would buy you all a drink if we get through this and survive to draw it down 😊

    Great thread .

I think they do in fairness.

They have extended the deadline and made it easier for people to register their interest before the final date .

They need the money we are sending in to help pay the bills at the present time .

Hope they get their economy straight for when it's time to pay our pensions !

Finally got sorted today, got bank details and everything, just need to pay now and they said they would send a receipt as soon as they receive the money

It's certainly a bit of an hassle but well worth it for retirement

Let us know if you get a receipt, I've made 3 payments up to now no receipt had to ring them to see if payment received, it is a relief when they say they have it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 18,625 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

    Will do!

I've added a UK account to Revolut, assuming no one had issues transferring money to it to get the correct GBP amount and paying from that to HMRC did they?

Those who have yet to pay can benefit from the Euro having gone up 2.5p against Sterling in chaos of the last week.

Also don't forget 2024 - 2025 can be paid in the next month or so.

Best to continue paying it this time and not to leave it for 20 years or so🤣🤣😂

It depends on whether you are class 2 or class 3, the latter will have saved even more.

I made two payments. One in April 2024 covering the 2006-2014 period, and one in March 2025 covering the 2015-2021 period. Plan is to pay the 3 years from April 2021 to April 2024 in the next few months, along with the April 2025 payment. All Class 2.

As I am now "late" in paying the 3 years between April 2021 and April 2024, should I be expecting to pay an increased amount above what it shows in the letter?

Also, I can see from the online system that the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 years are showing as "Fully paid" for me. I'm presuming that's my March 2025 payment sitting there waiting to be allocated to earlier years. I rang them after I made the payment to say that it should be allocated to 2015-2021.

My HMRC online is finally updated with the year's I have recently paid, I knew it wouldn't go smoothly, I paid some of the older back years first, 2006/7, 2007/8, 2008/9., class 2.

On the phone last week was told my payments have been allocated to the years I requested but checking online it seems 2006/7 wasn't located so I checked all the year's for some reason 2022/3 paid,I was going to keep the last 6 years for future payments , don't know why that happened

    2006 to 2007

It’s too late to pay for this year. You can usually only pay for the last 6 years.

    2022 to 2023Full year

    You have contributions from

    Self-employment: 52 weeks

Seems to go down as self employment on the records, but the good news my forecast as been updated now and my pension forecast as gone up with back payments Added, I suppose that's the main thing my pension going up despite the mistake on 2006/7 payment.

has anyone else checked on line recently to see if updated.

I have read that they don't issue receipts .

Someone on this thread confirmed they got one .

I have asked by phone , emailed and written for six months now about a receipt but no luck .

On the online statement mine was updated in the last month and they allocated for 2006 for me . it was a class 3 as was the following year because I was not working at the time( home with kids ) Then class 2 s after that .

Great to see it's up online and the pension forecast gone up

Even though the HMRC online as been up dated for me it still saids under all back payments Year is not fullPay a voluntary contribution of  £907.40.

Even though It was confirmed I can pay class 2 which I have been doing on the letter I received from HMRC all back payments bar 2 are class 2.

Sounds like it might not be fully updated yet ?

Maybe but every time I ring them they do confirm I can pay class 2 ,the only proof I have is the letter I think when they look at there screen they have the same information as my letter.
