Well good for you. I didn't say or suggest that all people who regularly promote crashed cars in here (like yourself) can't fix them. Some, like yourself, clearly are experts at this and would patch up a car in no time for minimal cost and could sell it on for a big profit. Power to you.

My point is that most posters here can't. And that the overwhelming majority of people reading and posting here have zero interest in doing up crashed cars. Do us all a favour and go post in that other thread that somebody started in the motors forum just for crashed cars

I like to think that I know nothing of people's skills and promote people to pick up more skills.

So I wouldn't like to pre condition myself into believing people can't.

As I said this is a motoring forum it annoys me no end that top posters on it put down discussion about actually motoring skills.

If anything as EVs are becoming more prevalent we should be sharing skills on repair and tips. Thats what any motoring forum I've ever been a member of has done. And I've been on quite a few over the last few decades.

Problem is you are forcing that opinion on others who have no interest in it.

The lack of self awareness. Does not astound me.

Agreed. Plenty come in they just get interrupted. 😉

Nope, because the metric for bargain is quite lost in this thread now. Too many crashed cars posted and it's now apparently down to your auto repairs skillset and/ or 'home' garage setup on whether a car for purchase is a bargain or not. Oh and also how hungry the rodents were.

There should be a separate thread for crashed EVs for those who want to seek one and have the skills. Even a metric for crashed EV bargains is a lottery so the term 'bargain' should not appear in the title thread.

Can you post a bargain ? 2 posters who haven't posted a single item nor engaged in the thread now popping up complaining. Every 4 weeks the same stuff.

Once again this is a motoring forum you'd be well placed to understand that. By its very nature it contains all topics related to motoring and shock horror it involves talking about ... fixing cars !!

Maybe we should start a thread outside motoring for bargain cars pure sales only . Then we won't have anyone with zero interest in facets of motoring discussion involved. We could put it in Bargain Alerts. Then no one can get angry that motoring enthusiasts might comment on it.

Thoughts? The forum is becoming increasingly anti motoring with the same few folks being anti motoring.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 537 ✭✭✭mrm

What a bullsh1t post, trading forum/ thread/ outside topic thread to state only motoring enthusiasts to your perceived level can post here, prohibiting others even observing as an individual seeking guidance on what is a bargain or not for next car pick up.

So you have clearly written that the 'EV bargains' thread (note the term is not 'forum') should be for 'talking about…..fixing cars'! If the issue with this has to be explained to you then the problem is not every 4 weeks, 'cos you pop up here more often. Ironically, most of your last posts also did not include a bargain!

Go elsewhere on the FORUM (no need to go all the way outside) and create a THREAD to talk about fixing up motors. Wont be responding to you again as I don't want to derail the thread.

    Interesting Zoe,

No mention of someone hopping on the bonnet though..

Cheapest Polestar 2 Dual motor I've seen. UK import, so may have a better spec. Lovely colour.

How is that even remotely a bargain at €4500 asking? It's 9 years old and never even had an NCT. I bought a very clean and undamaged one for my daughter a few months ago with NCT and nearly a years tax for €2000

I genuinely wonder what you are even doing in this thread…

Agreed it's why forums are dying on their arse and people move off to insta, bluesky, tik tok, youtube.

Stiffling conversation letting opinions flow. Discussing cars and their merits , whether they're a bargain or not. Opening people's mind to ideas. Someone could pick up a car and swap the bonnet on it for a few euros where last week they couldn't hang a shelf.

The worst part of the direction of forums is the diminishing traffic. It's stems from pushing down views and stifling conversation.

I actually really dislike having to defend open flow of conversation tbh it brings me zero joy. I'd prefer to be reading a car ad posted by someone I might not agree with and talking about the merits of the car. But i think it's important to keep the forum alive by allowing people to chat with differing opinions. It's the whole entire point of boards. I've been here since 2008 and il continue to push for open conversation, keeps people engaged.

    Back to the ad.

Listermint I'm with you for open debate and learning. I would welcome that over in the thread I created.

For sale a few weeks now, just dropped another €100 quid off the asking. Now €1350. In Galway, which doesn't help the seller. If it was me buying, I'd go over and offer him a 3 figure sum. Out of NCT since late last year but there is very little these old Leafs do fail on. Whatever way it ends up, a guaranteed bargain

Nice colour, interior reminds me of late 80s early 90s carina, velour seats. Or is that just dirty ? Haven't sat in many . Is it fabric ?

What sort of range would it have?

I'm a bit of a lurker on this forum, and I check this thread most times it pops up. I've been interested in EVs for quite some time and hope to never buy an ICE car again. We recently got our first one and I'm looking forward to getting our second. I used to do some minor tinkering in terms of basic servicing etc, but health issues meant it became too much of a chore so I pay someone to do that stuff now. What I'm interested in seeing in this thread is a good value EV that either I can afford or that I can recommend to friends/family who might be moving on from ICE (there are stlll a LOT of people out there who need persuading). Neither I nor they will be interested in any damaged repairables, unless it's something really basic like a cracked bumper on a car that's still drivable and road legal, or a minor dent in a wing. Something that needs a new interior, a replacement wiring loom, a complete respray or a whole new front end would be of near zero interest. That's not a bargain, it's a project. There's nothing wrong with those - I might find some of them interesting too, but IMO they just don't belong in this thread.

The Leaf? Most early ones now have 7 or 8 bars left, which means if you drive gently and not at motorway speeds, you will get about 60km winter to 80km summer. The average car in Ireland does 35km per day. The average second family car way less again. Obviously this is not a good choice of vehicle as your only car and / or if you regularly drive more in a day than the maximum range of this car.

In other news, just sold my Twizy. I have owned every first generation electric vehicle now. Time to do the rounds of the second generation ones next 😂

perhaps a simple rule that the car has to be roadworthy to be posted would get past what feels like months of this debate.

taxis, imports, auctions, & monster-milers are bargains to someone, maybe not everyone, but consensus is not the point of the thread.

That’s the second LRDM P2 to pop up in 2 weeks at that price or lower. There was money Galway too that something the week.

A lot of car for the money.

Yeah thanks. I think that's getting a bit too short to be useful. I saw online someone swapping the battery in their early i3. While I like the idea of keeping older cars going some of these 2nd gen even with out of warranty batteries are getting so much cheaper with CCS2 to be so much more useful and worth a gamble on the battery.

Thank f**k for that, I was thinking aboutnot this morning and possible going to have a look at it! Doesn't make any sense at all to buy it but still was on my mind

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,830 ✭✭✭CMOTDibbler

Yeah, that's definitely the cheapest one I've seen. Been keeping an eye out for a friend who's interested. I think the one Gumbo's talking about is still for sale at €35k. 2021 models don't exist here, they only came on the market in 22, so any that are for sale are UK imports.

    Will you get an AMI?

I love the concept but think it's a hard sell in Ireland Vs the used alternatives.

If I was looking at leafs I would show up with €2500 cash for this one. Better battery than 2011/12. Battery health can be easily checked on Leafspy by driving fast for 10mins at low SOC.
