Hi folks. Looking for some guidance as getting a lot of conflicting information. Have a 2018 Octavia bought from main dealer, full service history. Timing belt was done at 99k in Feb 2023.

I'm at 157k now but the main dealer says its every 100k per skoda. My local mechanic says the intervals change each time you replace the belt. Another mechanic gave a completely different range and refused to dicuss why it was conflicting so much (garage in Portlaoise, was told basically that if I was questioning their recommendation to go elsewhere).

I'm just genuinely confused as to why everyone appears to be on a different page as to what's the best recommendation.

I can't see anything in my owners handbook on intervals for timing belts either.

    Appreciate any advice.

Are you talking miles or kilometres?

I read somewhere recently that the cam belt in the Skoda Octavia has a lifetime guarantee - 15 years /180,000 km (not sure if it's the petrol or diesel engine, or it could be both)

Absolutely no need to change your timing belt after 57k km / 2 years.

I read 250k km / 5 years. Or 150k miles / no time limit in the UK

57k km on a timing belt. It's nowhere near needing changing as long as you are sure of the history and the last replacement.

    Hi there

It's 120,000 minimum but skoda say up to 200,000km

I've the 1.6tdi engine and have done mine at 160k km and recently again at 300k km I'd prefer not to risk it.

Had a similar issue before. Different garages saying different things.

For peace of mind, I’d ring Skoda Ireland (give them your Reg) -your qn. should be fwd to a senior technician.

Having a belt changed is never a bad idea, but good to get an official answer so you can make a weighted decision. Ask about the recommended interval for water pump replacement while you’re at it.

Number in the link below should help

personally I’d think 57k after your previous change is premature.

    Pretty sure it's 210,000km/every 5 years whichever comes first for a 1.6TDI

I need to check about her own car which is the audi and what Audi recommend for that. 2014 Audi A3!

So for my Octavia 1.0 TSI - Skoda advising to change it every 210,000kms

For the Audi, Audi A3 1.6 TDI the recommendation was the same.

I rang their customer care lines separately and got two separate emails with this based on the regs of the cars

Surprising the amount of conflicting info from dealers on this. did you ask about the water pump?
At leadt now you got the official line on it. So, I guess you wont be in a rush to change the belts? 🙂

Water pump and timing belt are at the same time. I queried also does the age make a difference in terms of if the car doesn't hit the milage but the belt in the car is a few years old should it be replaced and they advised it doesn't.

The old recommendation was 210kkm and or 5 years.

    The time recommendation was removed.

Personally I'd change at the 5 or 6 year mark regardless. Rubber perishes with age.

And there isn't a unlimited time warranty on these to fall back on
