Oh right, didn't realise - just thought it was DF and EO. My mistake. Thanks!

Any promotional codes? :) Think I will go with the BWG Smart Dual Fuel 24Hr 18 Month Fixed Energy. It's €257.38 standing charge on urban.

No it isn't! At least not according to this page, it says it is €331.33:

    https://www.flogas.ie/price-plans/bwg-affinity-rate-res-offer/

I know the detail page says to 257, but unfortunately I believe this is a mistake. You should double check with Flogas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,660 ✭✭✭jaffa20

Click on the see details. It then shows 331.33 for Rural and 257.38 for urban.

    https://www.flogas.ie/price-plans/bwg-affinity-rate-res-offer/detail.html?fuelType=dual_fuel&offerId=87&availability=new_customers

Edit: just reread your post. I don't think it's an error. Rural standing charge could typically be higher. I'll see what email comes through with confirmation of contract. Have 14 day cooling off period anyway.

I need to ring to switch to a non smart plan is what I'm gathering?

The new renewal link has a day night rate, which I don't have on my non activated smart meter

No, it shows €313.90 for rural, which is different from €331.33.

They changed the standing charge on the front page this morning to €331.33, it was 257.38 yesterday and some posters above reported them telling them on the phone that the standing charge on the page was wrong and that it was €331.33

Do let us know what comes through on your confirmation email. The mistakes on these pages isn't great.

I got confirmation of €331.33 which is hefty, but we do get two emerald park tickets that I dont want and must sell haha.

I can't make head nor tail of it. This is the Rural non-activated smart meter electricity plan. If I could get the prices under the 24hr Meter including the night rate (listed as Day Unit Rate) I'd go for that, but the whole page is riddled with errors so I don't know what rates I'd actually be signing up for.

    24hr Meter

    current

Day Unit Rate (Fixed)Cent per kWh

    24.03

Day Unit Rate (Fixed)Cent per kWh

    13.35

    Standing Charge (Fixed)Annual

    313.89

    PSO Levy (Variable)Annual

    42.25

    EAB (Variable)Estimated Annual Bill

    €1,365.58*

    Night Saver Meter

    current

Day Unit Rate (Fixed)Cent per kWh

    13.35

Night Unit Rate (Fixed)Cent per kWh

    13.35

    Standing Charge (Fixed)Annual

    422.23

    PSO Levy (Variable)Annual

    42.25

    EAB (Variable)Estimated Annual Bill

    €1,367.31*

The standing charge on the day/night smart plan is eye watering and has a worse day rate.

Day - 08:00 to 23:00 (Fixed)(excluding Peak) Cent per kWh

    25.94

    Peak - 17:00 to 19:00 (Fixed)Cent per kWh

    25.94

    Night - 23:00 to 08:00 (Fixed)Cent per kWh

    12.79

    Standing Charge (Fixed)Annual

    422.23

    PSO Levy (Variable)Annual

    42.25

    EAB (Variable)

    €1,366.17*

Think I'm better off going with the Energia AXA smart. It's a good bit cheaper based on my usage. The only advantage of the Flogas plan is protecting against any wild swings in energy prices in the next 18 months.

    Day 24.83 | Peak 26.02 | Night 13.29 | SC 300.91

I've been on 331.33 EUR up until this point (d/n plan, dual fuel) and they said on the phone it'll be same after the renewal.

That's the same as for their smart plans apparently.

€257 SC is for 24hour, €331 is for night saver meters

Only have a smart metre since the end of August so don't have a full year of data yet and missing out best months for solar export and when energy usage is low as we have a heat pump that barely runs in July and August. Only got an electric car last month so will be adding a nice bit onto the night rate. Currently at 43.3% usage on night rate.

Looking like Energia Day Night saves a nice bit over sticking with the BWG. Have added BWG Day/Night rural as custom plan.

Hoping to add more solar and maybe DIY battery storage later in the year. Hopefully next year when I have a full year plus of data usage I can figure out if it's worth going to a smart plan if I can shift enough of the load.

I'm on the BWG gas only rate and was just checking the regular Flogas discount rate (8.32) vs the new BWG rate (7.90). Not much of a difference, but the regular discount is 12 months and €50 credit, with the BWG rate being 18 months and x2 Tayto Park tickets. There's just something I don't like with that 18 month lockin

Got the initial BWG email but nothing since and I think contract ended in mid March (god know what rate I am on no). Tried to re-sign up there with the link shared. I am on an unactivated smart meter on a day / night rate. Anyone know how I get those readings, I only see one reading on the meter?

Anyhow, may as well bite the bullet. Quick Q though, my GPRN is 6 digits, the Flogas site is insisting on 7, then tells me to check my bill again, which they issue 😂 and has 6 digits. Assume I can add a leading zero?

I just used this, and input the rates posted here under a custom plan.

It's 40 euro a cheaper than energia based on the data and provided .

Switched to SSE airtricity in October for gas. It’s been messy since the second bill. Meter readings in a forever state of ‘pending’ or ‘rejected’ and judging from the data on the customer portal the next bill could come in at over €2k …far in excess of the actual consumption.

Wonder if anyone else have found SSE wildly overestimating consumption?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 947 ✭✭✭autumnalcore

@LBF21 If your meter does day night press the blue or yellow button to cycle through the date, time, total read, day read, night read

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 947 ✭✭✭autumnalcore

Sounds like you have bad reception or the meter readings are in their view implausible. Register an account with ESB if you haven't already and you will be able to see the actual data they are getting and submit readings directly to esb. https://www.esbnetworks.ie/my-account

Submit a reading to gas networks Ireland, they will update SSE and, if submitted early enough, should avoid the 2k bill

I was with them years ago for electricity on the old 24hr meter and getting accurate bills that actually followed the meter was nigh on impossible. I would submit readings regularly and they'd still pick a figure (in their favour of course) and generate a bill, foolishly it was a 2 year contract, I was gone like a rocket the day after the contract ended😡

I cannot post a link because it is simply within an email which shows my own details. However, an update on this and a response to the other person who asked was I sure it was not Variable.

I read some of the replies to other people and decided to make a phone call to them yesterday evening. The lady explained to me that it was Smart and it would activate the Smart element of the meter, if not already activated. She agreed the Terms and Conditions doesn't state this although the word "Smart" implied it would be smart. It was also Variable but the standing charge €237.25 incl Vat for Electricity so although Electricity unit rate was a tiny bit more the standing charge was lower.

I have now renewed onto the new 18month Fixed rate Dual(non smart) instead and yes the Standing charge is higher but the EAB is lower because the unit rate itself is slighthly lower on this plan.

Does registering here with ESB do anything if you dont have a smart meter activated or installed?

I still dont have smart meter installed yet and dont want one yet. Will i still get details on my electricity usage so?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,984 ✭✭✭bren2001

You need a smart meter (activated or unactivated) installed in order to get a breakdown of your usage via the ESB.

What's with the electricity only rates? Day is the same as the day/night rates, but night is more expensive? Anyone ring about that?

So I take it that these are the correct D/N NON-SMART RATES after a lot of conflicting advice on here?

This is what I got on renewal of the non-smart day/night BWG dual fuel plan.
