Sadly not the night for the under 20 footballers. Great effort by all in the campaign, this calendar is cruel with the season over for both teams on the 1st April

missed frees have killed us. Need a reliable free taker at this level

Jesus, the puck out strategy needs work

2-18 to 0-17. We were well in it until an absolute gift of a second goal in the final 10 mins. Mark Hartley looks like a great prospect but had a nightmare on the frees tonight.I feel we were found wanting badly on the sideline. Some good individual displays …. Really liked the look of Conor Keane at corner back. Aaron ONeill at centre back looks classy but can be a bit casual. Ryan from Brickeys, Hartley , Twomey in the forwards. Also don’t know why Conor Tobin isn’t a starter was our most dangerous forward when he came in

Missed frees were a killer but saying that Hartley looks a prospect. Scoreline flattered Clare a bit. I thought some players stood out that could step up to senior. I agree that changes could have been made on the line but the team looked properly prepared for what was a stiff challenge against Clare.

That was a disappointing result. Not sure how good this Clare team were expected to be but given we were backboned by the bulk of that DLS side that reached the Harty semi finals a few months ago (could very well have got to the final or won it outright) I was hoping for a bit more, particularly being at home.

Only saw the last few mins of the game around when Clare killed the game with their second goal - were we really that bad throughout? At least good to hear a few stand out performers and as Mastermcgrath said above, Conor Tobin from BG you would think should be a starter.

Have to beat Limerick at home next week to have any chance of progressing, can't imagine it'll get any easier with trips to Tipp and Cork thereafter who are usually always strong at this grade.

By the way, that loss now makes it one (1) win at this grade in the last 17 championship games which came in 2022 against Kerry. You have to go back to 2016 (two thousand and sixteen) the last time we won a game since then (which we incidentally won outright). So one win in 9 years. Horrendous….

pretty abysmal alright. One win v Kerry in the last ten years……Conor Tobin on bench seemed bizarre…🤔 full back got black card near end of first half and they goaled from resulting penalty, second goal resulted from an u12 type error…..apart from these plus the missed frees there wasn’t a lot in it….🥲

with the u20s we know we’re not going to win this competition. We haven’t been good enough up the grades since u14 we’re not magically going to be good enough now at u20. I would credit Ken McGrath for throwing is lot in with a group that haven’t been successful it shows he just wants to help Waterford hurling. What we do want to see is progress, and the real purpose of this grade is bringing players through that are ready to step up to senior level. To be fair this was a better performance than any of the 4 games last year, and there is definetly some talent there Peter Queally could be looking to bring in over the next year or 2. That was the pleasing thing for me. Clare were probably a couple points better than us overall, stronger in the air around the middle thirds took their scores better and less silly mistakes than us. There are 3 more games left and still a chance to get a win on the board and improve as team. In Ken’s time one defeat and you were out at this grade I’m sure he’ll be telling these lads to keep fighting as he’d only have loved another bit at the cherry.

Clare lost the Minor Munster Final on penalties in 2022 and then won the Minor all ireland in 2023.

They had at least 10 of the players that hammered Waterford last year involved. So a decent Waterford performance with bad free taking and a late goal accounting for some of the 7 point margin is significant improvement on last year.

As others say, opportunity to put it right in the next 3 games.

Report I received from a Clare player in the match last night contained this
"they were the most physical team we ever played"

From a Clare supporter .… "W'ford were very physically able, hard working and got rightly stuck in"

The conclusion was W'ford missing an easy free to level it which seemed to suck the life out of them for the last 15 mins or so.

The second half misses were the difference on the night.

The Clare team are reported to be very good this year, so are W'ford also very good or did Clare have an 'off-night'? Next couple of games should answer that question.
