Not sure you'll even get the Inster for anything close to 18,995 either. Didn't someone post earlier their basic model was 20,495 on the road?

Can you get 0% HP on the inster like the spring? Or a rate lower than 5% at least?

Just shows you've to look at everything, the spring is straightforward 36 x 500, the inster has a lot of parts going on there to keep the advertised monthly at 175

500 a month is a lot though. Can you pay 50% deposit which reduces repayment to 250? If I sold my car privately I'd get approx 12k for it. 8 or 9k of that could go towards the spring as a deposit with the remainder paid over 36 months. It would make for a very cheap car.

The remaining 4k would then be used as a deposit for a new model 3 purchased on HP. I've worked out that if Tesla bring back the .99% APR and combined with the fuel savings our monthly outgoings would be similar to what they are now with just one ICE car.

At 0% there's actually no point in putting a deposit in unless it's a trade in and you don't want to sell privately. You could if you wanted though.

I have a car on order at 0% HP over 48 monthd, I am not trading in.

I could have put in a cash deposit and brought down monthly payment but really couldn't come up with any reason to do so.

There is literally no point at 0%.

Eh make the monthly payments easier on yourself because €500 a month is a lot.

I understand the idea of lower monthly payments. I would suggest that instead of adding a deposit, perhaps see about stretching the term to 5 years. €18k over 60 months is a much more manageable €300/month and opens the idea of a new vehicle to those who may have been looking at a pre-owned 3 to 4 year old car

For me there is much more value in an Inster than a spring, bigger battery and faster charging for only slightly more money but that is not to completely disregard Ireland's cheapest EV of course!

In fairness 500 a month appears a lot but it is just in our minds. Lets say you have that deposit of 9k. You keep it in a saving account and pay monthly from it 250 and 250 from the current account (not to mention some "investment" opportunities). I posted the comparison just to warn people of the marketing traps. 200 a month for a car sound interesting but considering that you pay 2k in interest … 2k is 4 monthly repayments on the other car. As PCP goes I think there are better value offers out there from the likes of VW, Peugeot, Citroen, Nissan all playing around 200ish monthlies.

A great review of the Dacia Spring here,

A great little car. Honestly why is there so many talking about the overrated Inster and not about the brilliant little Spring. This car deserves to do well too.

Had a look last week at the Inster and the Spring, an elderly neighbour was interested in a small EV. In my opinion there is no comparison between the two, the Inster felt a quality small car, with a lovely dash and comfortable, adaptable interior. The Spring very much felt a budget car, but it's most serious omission was not having a height adjustable drivers' seat, so this (smaller) potential customer was unable to get a safe comfortable driving position.

I am all for small cars like these, I reckon the market is bigger than we think, but the Spring is priced too close to the Inster to be competitive. The Inster is far from over rated..

Sat into open of these the other day. It's been a long time since I've seen a car where it has been so obviously built to a budget. The interior touchpoints and materials were really awful. I couldn't get out quick enough. I haven't sat in an Inster but it has to be far better than this. It's great to have more affordable EV's, and this may suit buyers who are not that discerning, but by God the price point shows.

I sat in one the other day as well for Mrs. S. agree it's completely budget when compared to the Niro/Kona or Ionic/EV6 but it's also vastly cheaper. It's on par with an ix20 which I asked to test drive for ICE comparison

They were selling a test drive Kona about 1.5 years old and about 4k on the clock for €33k so this space needs to be watched for the inster test drive cars in a few years

The interior materials would be the least of my worries. It can't hide its origins, a small cheap basic car launched in 2015 for the Indian market. It has been improved a lot in terms of crashworthiness (which was appalling) but even with improvements still scored 49% for adult protection in EuroNCAP. For comparison the Dacia Sandero scored 70%.

There could still be a market for it just as there used to be for Yugos and Polski Fiat 126s - but it is way overpriced for what it is. Should be no more than 10-12k IMO. A buyer would want to be soft in the head to pay 16990 for it (45 bhp version) vs 18240 for a Sandero or 18995 for an Inster.

I agree that it is overpriced. A recession might sort that out.
