I think America would vote for a woman. The margin between Hilary and Trump was quite narrow, even despite Hilary's campaign being mired by the FBI investigation. Hilary actually won the popular vote. I think however, a woman and a person of colour was a bridge too far. At least in the current climate.

Add in to that the shambles that was the start of the Dems campaign - Biden is running for a second term, with Harris as his running mate, actually no he's not running, Harris is running instead… Facepalm territory.

Why the flip did they not get Mark Kelly to run. All around American hero. The world would be in a lot less turmoil right now if they had.

Michelle Obama might have walked it, but I don't think she would have made a good president, much as I like her, she is, I think, an honest, dignified, very intelligent woman, but she is not political and did not want to be president.

How do you explain him finishing effectively neck and neck with establishment Democrat candidates with infinitely more impressive CVs in actual politics three elections in a row then? I mean one might be a fluke but he must have something that can rally 45%+ of the electorate every time..

This is BS and absolves entirely the throwing off of any moral compass or sense of duty post Jan 6th that the Republican party could have in any way claimed they possessed.

The Democrats have plenty of faults, there are plenty ahead of them in the line for who is responsible for Trump.

Harris: I'm going to expand on the federal legislation to prevent excess price gouging on essential food items. I'm going to build 3 million new homes over the next four years. I will cut taxes for middle income families. Here's my plan to further reduce prescription drug costs. I will increase corporate taxes to fund further investments.

Electorate: Hmmmm I'm not so sure, you don't seem credible despite you being a former successful attorney General, and you say you'll make the rich pay more and cut taxes for less wealthy people in society. I'm not going to vote for you.

Trump: I'm going to make eggs cheaper on day 1. CROOKED BIDEN. Hunter. Bengazi. ILLEGAL ALIENS. THEY'RE EATING THE DOGS AND CATS. Barack Hussain Obama. She's pretending to be black.

Electorate: wow, you're so articulate, you seem like a man of the people, sounds good, yes you're a 6 time bankrupt businessman, yes you've been impeached twice, yes you've been convicted of rape, fraud, and embezzlement to name a few. But you're going to make eggs cheaper on day 1, you're my guy, here's my vote, I trust you with our economy.

Day 1: no reduction to eggs prices, continue to soar

Day 10: egg prices continue to soar

Day 25: mass layoffs at the National Advisory Committee on Microbiological Criteria for Foods and the National Advisory Committee on Meat and Poultry Inspection, the agencies tasked with scientific research and preventing the spread of animal diseases.

Day 38: USDA begins to contact European countries, practically begging for eggs. Egg prices continue to soar.

Day 70: Trump doubles down on his plans for sweeping tariffs, US economy teetering on the brink of recession.

It really is an embarrassing indictment of the stupidity of the US electorate when more than half of them voted for the most idiotic and disgusting examples of a human being.

It's painfully obvious why, they didn't promise to lower the price of eggs on day 1.

That 6000 dollars on average for average car added to every car would buy years of egg consumption

Never, on any occasion, did Michelle Obama express the tiniest fraction of being interested in actually running for office.

It's complete fantasy talk to suggest that she was in any way in the running to do so.

And I don't have any particular need to defend her and her relationship but suggesting the person who NEVER wanted to be President didn't attempt to do so because of a rift between her and what to all intents and purposes seems to be the other half of a loving and committed marriage is turgid nonsense straight out of the likes of Alex Jones' mouth.

…and what's even more insipid is that his fans are still trying to blame the Democrats.

Other things are falling sharply too. Makes the eggs seem even more insignificant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,534 ✭✭✭✭LambshankRedemption

    Walmart today: 18 eggs $11.52 which in euros is €10.65 : "https://www.walmart.com/browse/food/eggs/976759_9176907_1001469"

Tesco today here in Ireland, 18 eggs: €3.75. https://www.tesco.ie/groceries/en-IE/products/314707485

I think they could fall sharply quite a bit more before anyone starts celebrating. Though with the Dow falling sharply too it wont matter.

(By the way I picked the 18 eggs as the packaging is almost identical. )

I reckon the first female president of the US will be a republican, i think a democrat and a lady would be too much for alot of Americans.

In reality it may actually take both parties running a woman candidate for a woman to win an election over there.

You know what, if the options were Marjorie Taylor Green or Pete Buttigieg, MTG would win.

After seeing how trump got elected, I wouldn't put it past the US electorate to elect her. She's a bonified idiot, like Trump. She's anti-trans rights, like trump. Shes pretends to have Christian values, like trump. She's a bully, like trump. Is devoid of empathy Etc etc etc.

Pete is credible, articulate, charismatic, intelligent, empathetic, however, from a right-woke POV he's a 'LGBTQ+' man. Republicans foam at the mouth at the thought of a gay man as president. They said Obama was the antichrist, Pete would inherit that title.

Niki Halley seems to be distancing herself from maga of late… I wonder if she is positioning herself for another run.

Rampant voter suppression and disenfranchisement. Over 4 million voters were struck off for the 2024 election, primarily black and other Democratic leaning minorities.

The stock market is falling as they see trump is causing chaos by putting tariffs on most countries and starting a trade war This will increase the cost of all imports and the manufacturing of cars and other products in America as the stock market falls it reduces the value of 4o1k funds that most Americans rely on to pay bills in retirement .

This is going to cause 70s style inflation , stagflation eg high prices inflation and falling employment no,s

Universitys are having to reduce staff no,s and cut certain subjects like arts philosophy eg as they react to cuts from federal agencys and lack of funding for low Income students

Trump wants to cut regulation and tax's for all corporations but this does not help the average worker

Theres not much positive for most people from trumps government in terms of living standards or stability of employment.

Some people might approve of trumps crackdown on immigration. Irish people who do not have visa are afraid to go on holidays as they might not be allowed to go back to where they live in America.

See YouTube or search this week in tech leo Laporte podcast audio

Ai is going to be a problem it has the potential to replace millions of jobs there seems to be no laws in America right now eg ai bots can copy all data from websites writing art videos podcasts

Trump gets donations from big tech he s not in favour of regulations on crypto currencys or Ai like chat gpt

Doge is closing down local offices that really n social security payments it's going to be more difficult to apply for pensions or other payments in the future

Stock market going down faster than a porn star on a Trump and now rumours abound that China, Japan, and Korea may have reached an agreement to collectively respond to Trump's tariffs.

If that happens America is fùcked

By day 300 I reckon we could see a Thunderdome and Running man styled TV show where trump shoves in his enemies for vengeance and our viewing pleasure. By Day 600 it could be more like something from Warhammer 40k.

Historic stuff from Trump. Getting those three to work together is very unexpected. Nobel prize on the way. EU and UK should do likewise tbh.

    https://www.axios.com/2025/03/28/easter-egg-prices-go-down

By the numbers: The average wholesale price of a dozen eggs was $3 Friday, down 8% from $3.27 on March 21, according to U.S. Department of Agriculture data released Friday.

    • It's down 63% from a record $8.15 in the Feb. 21 report.

The big picture: Retail prices, which typically trail wholesale, are beginning to drift downward as well.

The dope still doesn't understand how tariffs work, have none of his advisers actually sat him down to explain tariffs?

Actually probably not, and he wouldnt listen anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 996 ✭✭✭Detritus70

Bravo. Democracy is irrevocably damaged, international relations are in tatters, state departments are crippled, America is split beyond repair, hate and racism have become socially acceptable, produce is rotting in the fields, states axing child labour laws, but the price of eggs is slightly lower.

And isn't that the most important thing.

What is Trumps end game here?

He can't believe that other countries will simply accept tariffs or whatever conditions he is asking. Even if they in the short term they will inevitably look to other markets to make up any loss.

He made reducing inflation a major plank of his campaign yet this is not going to help that.

He talks about getting factories back to the US but that will take years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,168 ✭✭✭✭everlast75

I believe he wants to tank the economy on purpose.

It's either out of spite, or for him and his cronies to make as much money as they can out of it… but it's probably both.

And as for the campaign promise, since when did he give two f**ks about that?

He wants the EU to reduce VAT on US goods. VAT isn't a tariff obviously but Trump is portraying it as a tariff. I think EU will make a concession there and Trump will revoke his own tariffs (again).

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?
