They let me renew over the phone very easily. (18 months, same rates as quoted above)

They did point out that standing charges will likely increase mid-contract.

Hi All, I'm also considering if to extent. For long time I had an old meter which was turning "both ways" as ESB didn't change for few years it even with PV panels (4.6kw) on the roof. Last year they changed so have to reconsider my options. I have a PLug-In hybrid car with 13kwh battery. I have a 4kwh battery which is connected to the PVs.

I was thinking of getting one of those EV tarrifs - charge the battery and the car at night and use it during a day.

The feed in tarrif appear to be more than the night one - so in theory can I charge battery for cheap one and "sell" it for higher tarrif?

Even with Flogas night 12.79c vs FIT 18.5 - Or there are few hidden charges in there?

    Any advise would be appriciated.

Are you sure? I think mine was something like 257 or give or take inc vat. Currently Energia Axa deal's standing charge is 236.

Just renewed the BWG offer over the phone as others have done. 7.9 incl VAT for gas and 24.03 for electric, with standing charges etc of 151.18 and 257.38. 18 month fixed rate contract, was only waiting for 5 minutes on the phone. Happy days.

just checked mine : DG1 24 HR AFF fixed Elec 12 Mar24 NB

257.37 inc VAT, 24 hour rate 0.2344 inc VAT

As others have just got mine renewed over the phone at fixed rate of 24.03c per unit for 18 months and standing charge of €257. She did say standing charge may change depending on the rate ESB charge them for something which will be reviewed around October.

Very different. Some are offered a new contract over the phone and others told to wait for an offer by email. Is Flogas cherry picking the customers they want to hold on to?

I wonder if the standing charge "refresh" would hit to Energia or not also. Currently based on my usage, Energia is cheaper, but as everyone knows there will be VAT increase in May, so it will bump up prices in Energia also I believe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,810 ✭✭✭✭Muahahaha

Flogas EAB is €1,303 a year on that deal whereas Energia is €1,210. Whereas Flogas is fixed rates v Energias variable. Assuming Energia will rise their unit rates by 10% at some point during the 12 month contract it seems much of a muchness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 947 ✭✭✭autumnalcore

I have a heat pump use about 12,000 kwh they'd be mad not to keep me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 254 ✭✭bonjurkes

Also to remind, there will be VAT increase on electricity bills around May if I’m not mistaken. That would bump up Energia prices a bit but as Flogas is fixed, they shouldn’t get affected by this.

But I also wonder if standing order update on October would cause contract breaking condition and let us check for better deals then.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,984 ✭✭✭bren2001

That’s incorrect. Flogas unit price will increase with the VAT change. The fixed rate is on the pre-VAT cost

Depending on the wording of the contract, they may be allowed increase the standing charge. You’d need to read it.

Given my contract has been extended until mid April think ill wait to see what the new BWG offer looks like.

Why are people renewing without finding that out as a matter of interest?

FAO 'BWG Staff' on the 31/03 contract, it is now safe to switch but from others very helpful posts it appears to be now worth calling them first.

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Public transport user? If you're sick of phantom ghost services on the 'official' RTI sources, check bustimes.org for actual 'real' RTI, if it's on their map it actually exists.

If those rates are correct then according to energypal based on my usage, the difference between energia's smart data plan and flogas smart day/night is negligible. 18 months fixed rate is definitely preferable.

Can you sign up to the flogas smart day night plan with a standard 24hr smart meter or do you need one of the newer day/night variants?

No 24 hour rates? I guess the day/night rate is not a smart plan. It is more expensive for me that the moment than Energia offer especially with the high standing charges, but i guess a fixed rate is peace of mind.

Ah ok I thought i read in the thread that an email was still to come, or is that just to renew online (so the only way to renew as of now is by phone)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,223 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

Not much difference in the new Flogas deal vs the Energia AXA deal by the looks of it? Are BWG Flogas people switching or staying put?! I'm on a dual fuel 24hr plan atm

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,223 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

reduced vat rate to be extended.

silly in my opinion but it does mean lower bills for a few more months
