I'm still undecided. As I have solar, Flogas FIT payment is 18.5c versus Energia's 20c. Although fixed for 18 months might just sway it for me.

But nobody can get it unless you have a bwg email address from what I'm seeing here that seems to be the case.

Just switched from Flogas BWG to the Flogas renewal gas deal on bonkers.ie, and the Energia / AXA deal for electricity. My electricity contract expires today, and I got email confirmation from them that I can switch without penalty today. If they try to levy a fee I will reclaim the direct debit until they correct the bill.

If Flogas BWG make an attractive renewal option to me I could use the 14-day cooling off period. But at this stage, based on Flogas's failure to honour their committment to send details of their renewal offer, it would want to be a material improvement on the other options.

I installed solar panels last month, and got a smart meter installed. So far I have clocked up about 230kWh in exported electricity on the new smart meter. There was nowhere to record this when I switched to Energia; anyone know who will give me the credit for this (Flogas or Energia)?

If your already on the BWG just ring them up and renew. I rang this morning around 11 and was told there will be an email tommorow but when I asked can I just renew now he said yeah no questions about being a bwg employee or anything, got confirmation email and all so done and signed up for 18 months fixed price at .243c per unit 24hr

Just a warning to 'BWG staff' to double check the end date of your contract before switching, AFAIK the vast majority of them end at 23:59 tonight 31/03 regardless of when you signed up, so if you switch sooner you may be leaving yourself open to the termination fee.

(I know it's been posted here about being extended until mid April but that won't effect the 31/03 date unless they've notified you in writing about it, which I don't think they've done with anyone, only people who ring them up so far it seems.)

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Just off the phone myself, would not let me renew over the phone. They said links are still being sent out and rates would be backdated to 1st of April IF renewed BY the 15th April. Which is different to the contract being extended to 15th April.

No spent ages on hold and gave up. Waiting now to see if a link comes out from flogas, seems unlikely though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,760 ✭✭✭✭Muahahaha

are you sure its a €422 standing charge for rural? Someone else posted that it was €300 last year for rural meters. If it is €422 thats the highest standing charge Ive ever seen in the market and seems to be high as a hedge by Flogas against the fixed rates.

The Axa 41% off deal has a rural meter at €287 iirc. The unit rates are similar to Flogas but obviously not fixed. Still a €135 difference in the standing charge.

They let me renew over the phone very easily. (18 months, same rates as quoted above)

They did point out that standing charges will likely increase mid-contract.

Hi All, I'm also considering if to extent. For long time I had an old meter which was turning "both ways" as ESB didn't change for few years it even with PV panels (4.6kw) on the roof. Last year they changed so have to reconsider my options. I have a PLug-In hybrid car with 13kwh battery. I have a 4kwh battery which is connected to the PVs.

I was thinking of getting one of those EV tarrifs - charge the battery and the car at night and use it during a day.

The feed in tarrif appear to be more than the night one - so in theory can I charge battery for cheap one and "sell" it for higher tarrif?

Even with Flogas night 12.79c vs FIT 18.5 - Or there are few hidden charges in there?

    Any advise would be appriciated.

Are you sure? I think mine was something like 257 or give or take inc vat. Currently Energia Axa deal's standing charge is 236.

Just renewed the BWG offer over the phone as others have done. 7.9 incl VAT for gas and 24.03 for electric, with standing charges etc of 151.18 and 257.38. 18 month fixed rate contract, was only waiting for 5 minutes on the phone. Happy days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 254 ✭✭bonjurkes

just checked mine : DG1 24 HR AFF fixed Elec 12 Mar24 NB

257.37 inc VAT, 24 hour rate 0.2344 inc VAT

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 225 ✭✭Gerlad

As others have just got mine renewed over the phone at fixed rate of 24.03c per unit for 18 months and standing charge of €257. She did say standing charge may change depending on the rate ESB charge them for something which will be reviewed around October.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 872 ✭✭✭POBox19

Very different. Some are offered a new contract over the phone and others told to wait for an offer by email. Is Flogas cherry picking the customers they want to hold on to?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 254 ✭✭bonjurkes

I wonder if the standing charge "refresh" would hit to Energia or not also. Currently based on my usage, Energia is cheaper, but as everyone knows there will be VAT increase in May, so it will bump up prices in Energia also I believe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,760 ✭✭✭✭Muahahaha

Flogas EAB is €1,303 a year on that deal whereas Energia is €1,210. Whereas Flogas is fixed rates v Energias variable. Assuming Energia will rise their unit rates by 10% at some point during the 12 month contract it seems much of a muchness.
