I've done the reverse - put a continental plug on an Irish power strip for travel. One thing to be aware of - France uses type E or CEE 7/6 plugs/sockets, and some plugs don't have the notches or (preferably) earthing strips at the side. They'll work fine in France, but I found out the hard way that they don't in Italy - which uses type F. CEE 7/7 as mentioned by the OP will work all over as common sense has prevailed.

It's not quite as complicated though as there are just a handful of European countries that don't use CEE 7 compatible plugs and sockets. The German/French variation is not really very relevant unless you're using ancient plugs or some French re-wirable plugs are the old spec.

You've a few which are partially compatible - usually only with the flat 'Europlug' 2.5 amp one that you find on small appliances. Italy (mix of Italian and normal Schuko), Denmark - it's own system that's weirdly compatible with Schuko without connecting the earth, and Switzerland which is its own system entirely.

Both Italy and Denmark allow 'normal' European sockets now too, but it could take decades for their national systems to phase out, if they even ever do.

Other than that there's Ireland, the UK, Malta and Cyprus on the British derived rectangular pin system that isn't compatible with anything.

27 euro for a phone cover seems quite shocking never mind 40…???

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

I'm a bit underwhelmed by the Prime delivery timelines for the Irish site. Ordered a few items on Friday afternoon, they're due to be delivered on Monday. If I ordered them from the UK site they would arrive within 24 hours and I'd have them today.

The delivery timeline commitment for Irish Prime members is within two days, but it seems they are struggling to even reach that target. I raised it with support and they threw €20 on my account no question asked, I'd say they are well aware of the poor feedback …

Most of my stuff off the UK is generally going through An Post rather than courier and An post have a large facility in the UK that it seems to go through and where it hits customs there, so it's UK warehouse to UK warehouse which is straight onto our own consumer delivery network via An post.

Ordering off IE there might be a few more steps, UK amazon warehouse to IE amazon warehouse, IE amazon warehouse to whoever. Extra time being logged into each warehouse/company's system.

    Obviously I don't know but that's what I'm assuming.

Had an order made that got split in 2 for shipping that got sent out less than a day from each other and the later one is an week extra on the shipping so far, listed as An post but only has the 1 stage on the delivery so far doesn't seem to even be in Ireland yet or at least Amazon haven't handed it over to An post.

This is stuff that is fulfilled by Amazon and delivered by Amazon themselves. It seems a bit wild that it's taking an extra day or two on the Irish site as opposed to the UK site for the same products, but yeah it must be some backend logistics arrangement as you say. Teething problems that will surely be sorted before long?

i ordered 4 things on Friday and said delivery on Monday.

But it all came on the Saturday. Which was a nice suprise

I think the UK site benefits from the opening of the IE site. Stuff that I regularly order - shipped in 2 days before ships in 1 day now on the UK site.

how long will the important information unclickable banner dominate the Irish shoppers dot uk shopping experience? I don't need to see that, its not important

checked one object same price but slower delivery, its all about speed

2 days earlier than the delivery date stated when using the uk site -they’re possibly building in contingency

Received the last package of the order placed on the 19th of March today, various grocery items all showing as unavailable now on .ie, all foreign stuff brought in from Germany and France.

I’ve UK Amazon prime for years - never been charged shipping - shipping was added this evening on some random purchases - didn’t buy- what’s going on?

Did you take up the 30 day free trial offer for the .ie site?

Trying to reset my password on .ie and getting internal server error.

    Anyone getting similar?

    EDIT:

OK, its working now and I reset my password, although the reset password email came was in German.

Then setting my address, it keeps swapping the first and second lines of my address.

When entering my address I put in:

    Lamb Shank

    5 Sesame Street

    New York.

But when it gets displayed after saving it, it displays:

    Lamb Shank

    New York

    5 Sesame Street.

Hopefully, the postman just reads the eircode, but as my first time using .ie it is safe to say, I am not impressed.

Haven't used Amazon in yonks. Just find with a Google cheaper options are available.

    Good for reviews though.

I'd suspect it's not related, you get lots of resellers that add shipping.

Have An Post started using the Eircode? I know they never did after the launch but it might have changed.

Oh Jesus. Thanks for that bit of information.

    Hopefully common sense will prevail.

It's not that they didn't use it, they had their own internal system only used by them, eircode meant everyone had access to a similar system.

They seem to use it (eircode) today, but I'd almost bet that they turn the eircode into that internal code and then use that for routing/delivery.

I tried that. It still comes out the wrong way around.

I also logged in via my phone and got a login alert email - in German. For some reason amazon.ie thinks I'm German.

Anybody know if purchased prime video movies on the .CO.UK site will transfer to the .IE account? Have a good few movies I'd prefer not to lose.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,787 ✭✭✭✭murpho999

Don't think they will but you won't lose the videos off your UK account if you transfer.

Any advice? I bought something from Amazon.ie. It came from a company with a .eu address. It is faulty, and I have to return it, but the return label has an American address and it will cost a lot. Any idea whether there is anywhere that I can complain about this?

Not sure about that, but I went to pay for a movie on my Prime.co.uk - I was directed to "confirm payment details", but each time the link provided opened the .IE website, wouldn't accept my .UK logon and asked me to create an IE account.. I went round in loops for ages until I managed to modify the link to open on the co.uk website. Fair annoying.

I'd imagine you could claim postage if it's faulty. Might just send any one if it's not too pricey.

I put in an order on Amazon.ie a week and a half ago for 10 items and it was broken into 4 deliveries. One delivery arrived last week. One arrived today. And I'm now seeing that the other two deliveries with half of what I ordered 'may be lost', After years of ordering from Amazon I've never seen this happen.

Given the time for some of the deliveries it's just being redirected from China. Might as well cut out the middle man.
