I checked a good few items I bought recently and:

    • Base prices seem to be direct conversions from GBP to EUR
    • For cheaper items a lot of 15 EUR/etc… voucher options are missing on .ie compared to .uk
    • For higher priced items 20% off kind of offers were found on .uk, but not on .ie (it makes a huge difference for say a mid-range Wacom tablet I checked - like 200 EUR difference)
    • Some higher priced items are just missing on .ie (like a whole range of MSI monitors I like to purchase)

Aside from pricing family sharing is a big factor for me for keeping the uk membership going - I don’t think I’ll be moving any time soon as overall even with the cheaper Irish membership of prime id be losing overall with additional individual costs of prime membership - might be different though in 6 months time so I’ll keep an eye out on pricing

How long for the various price comparison sites (CamelCamelCamel, Hagglezon, etc) to be updated to include .ie I wonder?

Just got an email from Eir (I have Eir TV) and it says that over the coming days my Amazon Prime Video perk will be upgraded to full Amazon Prime perk. That's a handy win right there…

Big news for existing eir TV customers!

Amazon Prime has launched in Ireland and over the coming days your Prime Video perk will be upgraded to full Amazon Prime on us.

Your new upgraded Amazon Prime will include:
Deliver as fast as next day on millions of items
Exclusive discounts and early access to deals on Amazon.ie
Streaming on any device with Prime Video
Free online games and a monthly Twitch channel subscription with Prime Gaming
Exclusive partner offers like Deliveroo Plus Silver FREE for a year and discounted tickets at Odeon Cinemas

Plus, many more benefits await you! It’s our way of saying thanks for being a valued eir customer.

You will receive an email from Amazon in the coming days to advise you have been migrated to full Amazon Prime

Will Irish people be able to continue to order from Amazon UK going forward or will they shut us off at some time ?

It would be nice to have the option of both.

I’d say eventually they’ll stop free Prime deliveries from .co.uk to Irish addresses but we’ll still be able to order and pay delivery just like we can with .de and other EU Amazon sites.

Honestly at the moment Amazon.ie isn't TOO bad right now but the main rule of thumb should be to compare an item from it to it's other European counterparts before buying anything, if they're the cheapest happy days if not there's other options at least to work with. Only really use Amazon if I'm buying PC components myself as they're the only reliable seller I've found over the years but I certainly will be double checking before buying anything off of it regardless as some of the European variants have stuff available that they dont have on the others.

Irish people can order off any Amazon website not only UK.

Just looked up some books I bought for one of the kids last week, they were 2 for £7 on the UK site. .ie shows one French result and the rest Polish and they’re between €9 and €18, not one English result. Hopefully it’s just teething problems.

My annual UK Prime sub hadn’t got long left on it so I did the switch and it looks like the £95 refund is currently pending on my Revolut and got the 30 days free on .ie

    Indeed similar. Catastrophic.

Anyone using Amazon cannot care about any of those trendy environmental issues.

Noticed that the Kindle store just sends you back to the UK one so guessing they didn't want to work out the logistics of transferring Kindle libraries to another region.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,587 ✭✭✭✭MisterAnarchy

Yes I know but I like the free delivery off Amazon UK, I order alot of stuff from Amazon.

I can see that being removed in time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,764 ✭✭✭✭murpho999

If you keep your prime UK account then I'd say you'll be fine but hopefully the Irish site will be better in the future.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,927 ✭✭✭✭VinLieger

I wont be switching until they allow sharing prime benefits on the irish site. If they scale back the UK benefits for Irish customers ill just cancel prime altogether and make even more of an effort to not buy from amazon as well as sailing the high seas for all their tv shows.

So with the actual Prime sharing thing people are giving out about what does that mean really?

I can still use prime video on multiple devices right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,927 ✭✭✭✭VinLieger

So I have prime for the UK site, i have a family/household setup on there so my wife can also get all the benefits, she then has prime delivery, prime video, access to certain deals etc etc i think it allows adding up to 4 people to your family/household that you can share with

We use the same system to share kindle libraries.

Anyone care to share experiences of using other Amazon sites in Europe? What type of goods are they good for? I think I used one years ago but just can’t recall now - are many food items shippable to Ireland?

Dont find amazon as good as it was, majority of the stuff you can just buy off T E M U for a fraction

I bought various security cameras/etc… on .de as some of them weren't available on .co.uk at all.

…but a few months later when they became available, they were cheaper on .co.uk.

I used Amazon.de quite a bit back in Germany, for all kinds of stuff ranging from a desktop submarine model to a full-blown bike, or my first flatscreen TV for that matter. Over here in Ireland, I used them (amazon.de) almost exclusively for my first few years in this country, although I used them far less often compared to my time in Germany. Delivery via Amazon.de is generally slower than via the UK site but otherwise, I haven’t had any issues.

That being said, my orders were either specialty items I can’t get here in Ireland (pillows in Germany are generally 80x80cm for example) or high value tech such as headphones, so I don’t really have any experience with ordering foods via Amazon. The only reason I switched was because I got myself a Kindle and a few Amazon Echo speakers, which I could only get via Amazon.co.uk,

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

Likewise to others, I've used the DE site a fair bit for electronics - it can be significantly cheaper than the UK site and even though there's 8/9 EUR postage to pay and a few days extra to wait, it can be very worth it.

Only downside is euro plugs on things and no UK/IE language on things like keyboards or laptops but that's manageable.

Cheers and thanks for sharing 👍. I don’t regularly have a need for big ticket items - say over 100 euro onwards- but I’ll certainly take a look next time I’m buying one

I've found hard drives cheaper on amazon.de. Any large purchase, I'll tend to compare the regions.

Thanks again all - I didn’t realise a number of you replied until now. Interesting - I’ll certainly explore the other amazons if considering a significant purchase or a unique sort of item

First delivery today... And first return. Items were damaged. Feels like a waste of the €10 off coupon.

Really surprised with my latest purchase from UK prime- a 27 euro product (after exchange rate conversion) would have been 40 euro on the Irish site (phone cover was the product ) -

Bought myself a couple of good quality Legrand French power strips on amazon.fr and just whacked on a an Irish 13 amp plug in lieu of the French CEE 7/7 one. Gives you 5 French sockets (which are flat fronted - the face pushes in as you insert the plug) and are ultra child safe etc.

Way, way better solution than using adapters if you've a few bits and pieces of continental equipment around the house.

I just have one under the desk in the office for various bits and pieces and one in the living room.
